Abstract

Cystolithiasis is a condition where uroliths/calculi are found in the urinary bladder (VU) caused by multifactorial factors, namely urine pH, feed, and bacterial infection. An orange mixed breed cat, male, four years old, weighing 5.2 kg was examined at the Prema Veterinary Clinic, Dalung, Bali, with complaints of not urinating for 5 days, weakness, and decreased appetite. A case cat was reported to have come to the clinic in January with the same complaint. examination Ultrasound showed thickening of the walls of the VU and crystals were found in the VU. Animal cases were treated with catheterization, fluid therapy with Ringer's Lactate, ciprofloxacin (10 mg/kg BW; q24h), phenylpropanolamine HCL (0.8 mg/kg BW; q8h), vitamin Hematodine (0.6 mL) and case cats were also given. Neurotropic vitamins® (0.6 mL) and given cat food royal canine urinary care. One week after therapy the cat is in good condition, urinating smoothly and there is no indication of pain when urinating

Abstract

This study aims to determine the perception of pork traders in Badung Market towards the selection of slaughtering sites and to explore the reasons for slaughtering pork at home. All pork traders in Badung Market as many as 38 traders were used as research samples. Data was collected by interviewing pork traders in Badung Market using a questionnaire guide. The data obtained were presented and analyzed descriptively. The results of the research on the perception of pork traders towards pork slaughterhouses in Badung Market showed that from 38 pork traders, 95% of pork traders carried out pork slaughter at RPH and as many as 5% of traders carried out slaughter outside RPH. The cost of slaughtering at the Pesanggaran RPH is IDR 47,500/head and pork traders who carry out the slaughter outside the RPH are subject to a slaughter fee of IDR 100,000/head. The length of the slaughtering process for each pig at the Pesanggaran RPH is ± 2 hours, and the length of the slaughtering process outside the RPH is up to 4 hours. The location of the RPH with traders' houses varies from 4-20 km. However, traders who choose to cut outside the RPH are due to the distance from which they live, which is far from the RPH location. They understand the process of processing RPH waste, and are able to state that the implementation of pork slaughter at the RPH aims to ensure that the pork products they sell are of good quality and are in accordance with applicable regulations so that they are safe for consumer consumption later. Unfortunately, the knowledge and insight possessed by pork traders about RPH, zoonotic diseases and meatborne disease are still lacking. The distance between the location of the traders and the slaughterhouse is the most underlying reason for traders to choose to slaughter their livestock at home. Insufficient knowledge and insight of pork traders will certainly affect the quality of the meat they sell later, it is better to do socialization about RPH, zoonotic diseases and meatborne disease so that pork traders will be able to carry out the correct slaughter and the quality of the meat they sell is guaranteed and very feasible for consumption. In addition, it is also hoped that each district/city must have a RPH that meets the technical requirements set by the ministry of agriculture.

Abstract

The liver is an important organ in the body that performs many important functions in the digestive system. This study aims to determine the structure and liver morphometry of Bali ducks at different ages. The anatomical structures observed in this study were the number of lobes, color and morphometry (weight, length, width, and volume) of the liver. This study used 18 male bali ducks aged 1 month, 3 months, and 5 months. The ducks were necropsied and the liver was taken, then anatomical observations and morphometric measurements were carried out. The results showed that there were no differences in the anatomical structure at different ages. Based on anatomical measurements, there are differences in liver morphometry of Balinese ducks at different ages which are marked by differences in liver weight, length, width and volume. It is necessary to do further research on histomorphometric measurements at different ages.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the total bacterial plate count and the number of non-coliform bacteria in healthy and diarrheal dogs isolated from dog feces at the Denpasar and Badung veterinary clinics. The samples used were fresh feces from healthy dogs and diarrhea with a total of 20 samples (10 healthy and 10 diarrheal). The method of this study was carried out by isolating bacteria on Nutrient Agar media using the pour method for total plate number of bacteria and Eosin Methylene Blue Agar media using the scatter method for non-coliform bacteria. The data obtained were tested using the Independent T Test. The results showed the number in healthy dogs was 3.7 x 107 (CFU/g) for ALTB and 1.5 x 107 (CFU/g) for non-coliform bacteria, while in diarrhea dogs it was 1.5 x 109 (CFU/g) for ALTB and 7.3 x 107 (CFU/g) for non-coliform bacteria. From the results of the study, it was concluded that ALTB and the number of non-coliform bacteria had a significant difference between healthy dogs and diarrhea in which healthy dogs had fewer bacterial colonies than diarrhea dogs which had more bacterial colonies (P?0,05). Further research is needed regarding the effect of non-coliform bacteria from dogs on the surrounding environment.

Abstract

Feline chronic gingivostomatitis (FCGS) is a chronic inflammation of the mouth that often affects cats. The immune system is thought to be involved in its pathogenesis. The purpose of writing a case report is to provide information on the incidence of FCGS and otitis externa in domestic cats and as a material for consideration in taking action to treat these diseases. The case animal was brought to the Estimo petshop & clinic with a complaint that the cat did not want to eat and drink. According to previous cat owners, it seemed difficult to chew their food, resulting in decreased appetite and drinking, and excessive salivation. This has been going on for a month. The owner also saw the cat often scratching the ear. On clinical examination, the skin turgor is slow, the mandibular lymph nodes are slightly swollen. The buccal mucosa looks red and swollen. Cats also experience hypersalivation and halitosis. On clinical examination, the ear was found to be black, smelly, and wet. Routine haematological examination results showed leukocytosis with neutrophilia. On examination of the ear swab found mites Otodectes cynotis. The therapy given was Ringer's Lactate fluid therapy intravenously, anti-inflammatory dexamethasone at a dose of 0.2 mg/kg BW once a day subcutaneously, a long-acting antibiotic amoxicillin at a dose of 15 mg/kg BW intramuscularly, immunomodulator Viusid©pet with a dose of 1mL/5kg body weight twice a day orally. The therapy given for otitis externa is in the form of topical therapy, namely ear drops containing Pyrethrins as the main ingredient, given three drops twice a day in the left and right ears. Three days after therapy the cat showed an improvement in body condition. Treatment with the given therapy gives good results, signs of gingivostomatitis and otitis externa are no longer observed and cat owners are advised to always pay attention to the cleanliness of the cat's oral cavity by scaling and providing dry food to reduce tartar buildup on the teeth.

Abstract

Abstract

Hooves are a very important part of the body because they are used to support body weight and walk. As in other animals, the hoof of the cow serves to protect the phalanx III os, as a place for the animal to support the ground, to support body weight, to absorb vibrations/shock when supporting when running and jumping, and to circulate blood. This research is done to determine the morphometry of white taro cattle’s hooves in Taro village, Tegallalang District, Gianyar Regency, Bali, Indonesia. The amount of samples used is 26 taro cattle (> 3 years old). Measuring tape with cm as its unit is used to measure the hooves of the front legs. Data collection was done by referring to the method used by Radiš? et al., (2012). Data collected includes length, width, and height is analysed quantiatively. To examine the difference between male and female, Independent T-test is used in the procedure analysis with SPSS program. The results of the forefoot measurements of white taro cattle obtained that the hoof height was 12.08 cm, nail width was 21.50 cm, length was 25.33 cm. While the measurement of the front hoof of a female Taro white cow, the hoof height is 7.78 cm, the nail width is 25.00 cm, and the nail length is 17.57 cm. In general, the size of the front toenails of male and female white taro cattle were not significantly different with the coefficient of variation of the forefoot hoofs of male and female white taro cattle being large, which was >20%, so the coefficient of variation of the front paws of male and female taro white cattle was not uniform.

Abstract

Breeders want relatively cheaper prices, while cheap feed does not guarantee livestock productivity. Development of research based on the use of insects as an alternative source of protein to complement the needs of animal protein is urgently needed. These conditions are harmless to livestock, continuous, nutritious and not in competition with humans. One of the efforts offered is to utilize the maggot Black Soldier Flies (BSF) or Hermetia illucens in processing waste into animal feed which is rich in protein. The purpose of the research was to find out the best media for maggot production levels and nutritional content. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with 3 treatments and 5 replications so that there were 15 units. The media used were pumpkin (P1), kapok banana skin (P2) and tembang fish (P3). The results showed that the production values ??for population density, maggot weight and length were 0.80 individuals/cm3; 914.5 g; 14.86 mm and the highest nutrient content (protein: 55.13%) was in tembang fish media (P3). The nutritional content of the maggot maintenance media affects the level of production and the nutritional content of the maggot itself. Media using tembang fish (P3) shows the highest value for maggot production and nutritional content compared to other media. Suggestions for further research are the need for further research using other media to obtain optimal production and nutritional values ??for maggot growth.

Abstract

At each step in the abattoir there are many opportunities for contamination of pig carcasses with potentially pathogenic bacteria. There are processes that reduce the number of bacteria, but do not completely eliminate them. This study aims to identify the potential hazards and risks of pork products at the Pesanggaran Slaughterhouse. This study used the observation method which was carried out 15 times, namely direct field observations (inspections) and interviews to obtain data. The data is then analyzed by Failure Modes and Effect Analysis (FMEA) in determining the potential hazards and risk assessment. The results showed that there were 15 potential hazards in pork products at the Pesanggaran Slaughterhouse. The Risk Assessment Code (RAC) values for these potential hazards are 9 potential hazards having an RAC value of 1, 2 potential hazards having an RAC value of 2 and 4 potential hazards having an RAC value of 4. All potential hazards are categorized as unacceptable potential hazards. These potential hazards must be eliminated by the Pesanggaran Slaughterhouse to avoid the spread of infectious diseases through food (foodborne disease).
