Abstract

The main factor causing inequality for women is patriarchy. As in many old-school traditions, patriarchy remains in marriage where wives are urged to bow down to their husbands and the husband is regarded as the ultimate authority of the household. This research investigates the narrative of Charlotte Perkins Gilman's iconic short story, "The Yellow Wallpaper". Descriptive qualitative research and textual analysis approach are used to complete this research analysis. Along with the depiction of radical feminism, this research aims to subvert patriarchal ideals. This is in keeping with the narrator’s husband John, who works as a physician, forbids her to do anything instead locking her in the ancestral halls. The reason of his attitude as if this is the only way to cure the female narrator’s depressing nervous trouble. She is often considered let the silly fancies run in her mind and lost control. In the nursery room she is locked up, she found an irritating painting on the yellow wallpaper. Yet, she later discovered there is a woman imprisoned in the painting who is always creeping. The findings show that the yellow wallpaper symbolizes the female narrator’s suffering as a captivated creature and pushed by the patriarchy control.

Taking place in Wotu District, East Luwu Regency, the local wisdom in the economic field studied is in the community who work as fishermen and traders there. This research uses ethnographic methods by going directly into the field and describing in real terms the economic activities that occur. The results showed that the noble values of local wisdom such as warani (brave), This is illustrated by the process of fishermen installing rompong, or coconut fronds (cicciri); Adele (fair), illustrated by the process of distribution of panjalae or fishermen, this fair nature is also held by traders without discriminating consumers; Sinunu (cooperating), seeing in the process of going to sea requires teamwork and cooperation; Malabo (generous), seen in the distribution of seafood that attaches importance to the distribution to the entire crew, this is still going on even though the distribution remains proportional; and Sisitappari (mutual trust), This is also illustrated by the process of fishermen installing rompong, or coconut fronds (cicciri). The values of local wisdom are still maintained from generation to generation and are reflected in the economic activities of the people in Tana Luwu, especially in fishermen and traders. In addition, there are also rituals such as the calculation of the moon in determining good and bad days in starting a business and carrying out economic activities. Some of the challenges found in this study are first, the high influence of changing times that enter areas that erode the values of existing local wisdom. Starting from lifestyle, technology, internet and other globalization activities. Second, the lack of desire and enthusiasm of the younger generation to learn and want to inherit economic activities that contain noble values of local wisdom. Among them is because some informants say it is no longer suitable for the needs of the times and is very traditional. Third, there is still a lack of activities to maintain the values of local wisdom by the local government. This is illustrated by the lack of activities that are able to socialize the values of local wisdom.

Abstract

Artificial Intelligence has the capacity to transform multiple sectors, such as English Language Teaching (ELT). In recent years, academics and educators have focused on incorporating artificial Intelligence in English Language Teaching to assess its advantages and effectiveness. This study will investigate the methodologies employed in English Language Teaching (ELT) and the potential use of Artificial Intelligence on students. 30 English teachers participated in this study as responders, utilizing Artificial Intelligence, such as ChatGPT. The research design employed both quantitative and qualitative methods. Quantitative data was collected via surveys and evaluated using descriptive statistics. Qualitative data was collected through in-depth interviews and processed using thematic analysis. The findings of this study demonstrate substantial outcomes in responses collected via questionnaires and interviews. Educators concur that ChatGPT has a beneficial impact on enhancing students' English proficiency. Using ChatGPT necessitates teacher assistance. This is intended to prevent the inappropriate usage of ChatGPT for unrelated topics. Thus, it is necessary to employ suitable strategies when incorporating AI into language instruction. This research exclusively focuses on using ChatGPT with teachers, excluding students' perspectives.
