Abstract

This research investigates the types of directive speech acts in the movie "Fall" which was released in 2022. The data in this research were taken from the utterances produced by the characters in the movie "Fall". This study uses a descriptive qualitative method from Creswell (2018), because the data are in the form of words and phrases. The theory from Yule (1996) was applied to identify the types of directive speech acts in the data sources. Then, this research applies the theory from Sudaryanto (2015) about the observation method and non- participation techniques used to collect data from the movie. The results showed that there were 21 directive speech act data in the movie "Fall". And the 10 data are divided into 5 types of directive speech acts. Those were 3 command data, 7 command data, 5 request data, 4 suggestion data, and 2 suggestion data. The type of request is the most used type of directive speech act in the movie "Fall" 2022.

Abstract

Sociolinguistics is the general term for the study of language that pays attention on the social aspects of language. This study focused on the role of language in society, or how members of various groups utilize language to communicate with one another. One of the many variations in language usage is slang. Therefore, the objectives of this study were to identify the types of slang and find the most frequent type of slang word in the "Last One Standing" song written by Skylar Grey. This study employed a qualitative descriptive approach since the researcher described the word development process of slang words in the song in detail. Documentation method was used to collect data for this study, which subsequently employed Yule's (2010) word formation processes to examine the slang words. Only six of eleven kinds were identified by the researcher: etymology, coinage, compounding, blending, clipping, and acronym. Based on the data, clipping is the most frequent slang in this song. It is hoped that this study would aid future sociolinguistics research, particularly slang analysis.

Abstract

Education is essentially an effort to pass on values, which will help and determine humanity in living life and at the same time improve the fate and civilization of mankind. Without education, it is believed that today's humans are not much different from past human generations, who, compared to today's humans, have been very left behind in terms of both the quality of life and the processes of empowerment. The success of learning is influenced by various things, one of the most important is the role of learning media. In situations like this, the teacher's ability as an important role holder is required to have imagination and a level of creativity that is above average in order to be able to deliver or deliver lessons as expected. This type of research is quantitative research. This research is referred to as a quantitative method because it contains numbers and also analyzes that use statistics in the process. This approach uses a quasi- experimental design approach, in which the researcher does not have full control over the external variables that affect the implementation of the experiment. This study uses a pretest-posttest group design, namely by comparing between before being given the imple-mentation of learning with PowerPoint media and afterwards. The conclusion from the research taken is that the use of PowerPoint media can improve learning outcomes in grade 5 of SD Negeri 066045 Medan in the 2022/2023 Academic Year.

Abstract

The aim of the research is to find out how the process enhancing students’ achievement by using Portofolio mobile Apps Portofolio based called Class Dojo to Junior High School Students worked. Research and Development method was applied by using three common steps in RnD; first step is the introduction where the researcher analyze the problems and collecting first data related to Self-Regulated Learning to the subject research; the next step is adjusting and develop the new model to the old learning process; and the last step is the evaluation process to assess the whole development applied in this research. It can be cocnluded that the development of learning aided by Class Dojo Application can improve students' self-regulated learning ability. There is an increase in student learning outcomes which means that it has met the specified success criteria. The increase has an impact on improving the quality of learning, in this case, learning resources increase with increasingly varied learning media, so that it can help teaching students.

Abstract

The study concentrated on using the Cake and Duolingo apps to help students in the Rebecca Course and Center develop their vocabulary. The purpose of this study was to answer the following question: "Does using the Cake and Duolingo apps improve students' vocabulary, and which app is more significant at the Rebekka Course and Center?" The main goal of the study was to determine which application is more relevant at the Rebekka Course and Center and whether the Duolingo and Cake programs help students' vocabulary. This research used Classroom Action Research (CAR). The subject of the research was Bremen and Frankfurt class and the total of them was 30. This research used two cycles namely cycle I and cycle II and every cycle had four steps namely planning, implementing, observing and reflecting. The observation was analyzed qualitatively, the test was analyzed quantitatively. In cycle l using the Duolingo application the students mean score was 71.3, while mean score of the students' in cycle II was 85. It can be concluded that the Duolingo application improved the students' ability in vocabulary students learning outcomes improve. In cycle l using the Cake application the students mean score was 67.3, while mean score of the students' in cycle II was 83.3. It can be concluded that the Cake application improved the students' ability in vocabulary students learning outcomes improve. teaching vocabulary using Duolingo was more significant in increasing students' vocabulary than the Cake application. This is proven by the average score in the second cycle for the class taught by Duolingo, which was 85. Abstract

Mathematic-English is a combination of Mathematics and English. it is the use of basic mathematical concepts and patterns of understanding English tenses. This study aimed to find out the effectiveness of Mathematic-English on students’ tenses mastery in Differentiated Instruction. This study employed the true experimental design featuring a pretest-posttest control group design. The research population was eleventh-grade students at SMA N 1 Tahunan. The research sample consisted of class XI-2 and XI-3, with XI-2 assigned as the control group and XI-3 as the experimental group. It has been selected through simple random sampling. The finding showed that there were significant differences in the mean scores before and after the test for both groups. In terms of the scores, there is a difference of 10.06 in the control group, whereas the experimental group exhibits a difference of 22.18. In addition, the analysis results using the independent sample t-test indicated that the t-test score was bigger compared to the t-table score (10.534>1.668). It indicates that the alternative hypothesis was accepted. Referring to the findings of the study, it can be concluded that the Mathematic-English model can improve students’ tense mastery.
