Abstract

This paper introduces the work of Mahfuzh at-Tarmasi (d. 1920 M) in the field of hadith, entitled al-Minhah al-Khairiyah fi Arba’in Haditsan min Ahaditsu Khair alBariyah, known as Arba’in at-Tarmasi. This book contains 40 hadiths written musalsal (genealogically) originating from Kutub al-Sittah and Tsulatsiyat al-Bukhari. This is based on the hadith practice on the virtue of gathering 40 hadiths of Nabawi. Interestingly, the main themes carried by this book focused on four things: aqidah (theology), ubudiyah (worship), mu’amalah (social relations) and siyasah (political strategies). These four things are important pillars in the reality of the life of Nusantara Muslim communities, considering that the period in Indonesia was experiencing colonialism by Dutch imperialism. At-Tarmasi (d. 1920 M) reminded of the importance of studying the pillars directly from the source.

Abstract

Sexuality is an interesting yet controversial topic in Indonesian culture. The discourse of morality makes it taboo in public. In patriarchy culture, women are always placed as an object of sexuality. In Islam, it also becomes an important topic discussed in Alquran. Now the phenomenon of sex exploitation spreads through the oppression of women’s body. The capitalist uses it to construct a discourse of women’s beauty, to exploit women’s body, and to use seduction to obtain some profits. One of the examples is sales promotion girl (SPG) phenomenon. This reality has influenced some novelists to raise this theme as their main novel topic. One of them is Indah Hanaco. This paper reveals the representation of women’s sexuality in Indah Hanaco’s novel entitled “The Curse of Beauty”. Indah Hanaco had been influenced by the phenomenon of SPG surroundings. Many SPG had trapped in prostitute caused by their sociality lifestyle constructed by the capitalist. They were forced to sell their body to get money to beautify their appearance. It became very important because it was an asset for them. Actually, it was not only about economic motif, but also psychological motif which affected their consciousness. This phenomenon was also widely discussed from the Islamic perspective, especially in the Alqur’an.

Abstract

This paper deals with Gadamer’s hermeneutical theory and how relevant it is to the study of Islam, which in this case is applied in the hadith “the involvement of angels in sexual relations”. The concept of Gadamer greatly emphasizes the merger of the horizons, the horizon of the text and the horizon of the reader. Merging the horizons will then generate meaningful sense. Meaningful sense is what according to Gadamer, can be applied in the reader. When Gadamer’s hermeneutical theory is applied in the hadith of “the involvement of angels in sexual relations”, a reader of hadith should be able to combine the horizon of the hadith, how it is understood in the time of the Prophet, and the horizon of the reader, the needs and conditions of the present. From the merger, it was found that the meaningful sense of the hadith is “keeping and maintaining harmony of husband and wife relationship”. Meaningful sense of this hadith should be applied in the present, regardless of the nature of the relationship between husband and wife. So Gadamer’s hermeneutical concept can be said to be relevant to eliminate the issues that develop today about gender bias.

Abstract

This article answers the question of how the form of revitalization of local wisdom in Aceh culture as the capital to resolve conflicts in the community. The important thing that will support this article is how Islamic ideas and Acehnese culture combine into one formulated from within, at least strengthening traditional institutions as the basis for managing Aceh culture is an important discourse to measure indicators of the ongoing settlement of Islamic conflicts. The results indicate that the re-actualization of Aceh culture which had been submerged by the conflict and tsunami, has now been revived especially on the social bases that were lost and even blurred. When there was a conflict in the Acehnese community, the mechanism for resolving conflicts was carried out using the Acehnese cultural approach known as Di’et, Sayam, Suloh, Peusijuek and Peumat Jaroe, involving Aceh traditional institutions at the village level, such as the geuchik (village headman), teungku imum and traditional leaders. This local wisdom in the discourse of the Aceh Government has reached the implementation of policies by making regional regulations through qanun to revitalize Aceh’s local wisdom by reviving some traditional institutions that have not been functioning.

Abstract

Fundamental human rights provisions had continued to feature very prominently in the successive constitutions of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. In addition, there had been a rise in the activities of human right groups in Nigeria in order to ensure the protection of fundamental human rights of all people. Despite all these, women fundamental human rights abuse was on the increase in Nigeria. The case of domestic violence, kidnapping, sexual harassment, women trafficking, killings, denial of the right to Education etc, are common occurrences. These abuses among others are responsible for physical and psychological underdevelopment of women and girl child which in turn affects their input in the development of their nation. It is against this backdrop that this paper examines two abuses of women fundamental human rights: abuse of right to life and education. The paper also discusses the instrumentality of effective use of the Islamic panacea in tackling the abuse of women fundamental human rights in Nigeria. The study relied on primary and secondary sources of information. It concludes by recommending that, for the full observance of human rights, an international control must be set up to supervise enforcement, as well as the education of the women and society in general.

Abstract

This research reviews multiculturalism and identity politics with the object of Using Islam. Using ethnic is a native of Banyuwangi which is predominantly Muslim. The existence of the Using community in addition to describing the spirit of multiculturalism also reflects the spirit of identity politics. Using people live in Java and speak Old Javanese, but they tend to identify themselves as Using ethnicity rather than Javanese. They also refer to the language as Using language, not Javanese. Becoming its own ethnicity makes the Using community have a number of distinctive cultural traditions and systems, including Islamic practices. Islamic values are acculturated with Using's local values and form a unique religious culture system. Socio-anthropologically, the persistence of Using's ethnic attitude is a reflection of identity politics that arises because of past historical experiences that were colonized by other powers, including the Islamic Mataram kingdom.
