Abstract

The increasing presence of religious content in broadcasting media has raised concerns about regulatory compliance, especially in areas with a significant number of religious broadcasting institutions. West Java, as Indonesia's province with the most broadcasting facilities, provides a relevant context for examining compliance among religious broadcasters. This study analyzes compliance patterns, types of violations, and regulatory interventions related to religious broadcasting in West Java from 2021 to 2024. Using a qualitative case study design, data were gathered through document analysis, observations, interviews, KPID West Java monitoring reports, violation records, and regulatory documents. Participants and sources were purposefully selected, and the data were analyzed thematically and validated through triangulation. The findings indicate that, of 476 broadcasting institutions in West Java, 32 adopted religious formats, including two television stations and 30 radio stations. Most violations occurred between 2021 and 2022 and included issues such as discriminatory policies, inaccurate broadcasts, unbalanced reporting, and content that could incite social conflict. In response to these violations, KPID West Java enhanced enforcement efforts through written warnings, clarifications, collaborative partnerships, and the issuance of Circular Letter No. 1 of 2022 on religious broadcasting content. Following these interventions, no violations were recorded in 2023, while only one case emerged in 2024, underscoring the importance of sustained supervision and collaboration

Abstract

This study analyzes the role of Instagram as a political communication platform for political elites in attracting the sympathy of millennial voters. Using a qualitative approach and Obstinate Audience Theory, this study examines Instagram content, interactions between political elites and voters, and millennial voters' perceptions of Instagram's use in a political context. By examining political elites active on Instagram, this study qualitatively analyzes how millennial voters respond to the political messages they convey. The results of the study show that Instagram has become a very practical medium for political elites to reach millennial voters. However, the success of political communication on Instagram relies heavily on political elites' ability to adapt to digital culture, build an authentic image, and create content relevant to millennial voters' interests. This research has important implications for political communication practitioners seeking to harness the potential of social media to achieve their campaign goals. Effective strategies can enhance voter mobilization and engagement, ultimately leading to greater political participation. By leveraging the unique characteristics of each platform, campaign teams can tailor their messages to resonate with diverse audiences, enhancing overall electoral outcomes.

Abstract

The rapid growth of Indonesia’s beauty industry, increasing digital literacy among younger generations, and a strong cultural identity have contributed to the emergence of local beauty startups competing on social media and e-commerce platforms. However, limited research has explored how Indonesian consumers evaluate and respond to their digital marketing communication. This study examines Indonesian consumers’ expectations, preferences, and digital consumption toward local beauty startups. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with five informants, supported by a literature review and participant observations. The findings suggest that the informants tended to be selective and critical when evaluating beauty products and digital brand communication. Authenticity, transparency, halal certification, and product credibility are key factors influencing trust and purchase decisions. Informants also highlighted the influence of social media, influencers, live shopping features, and AI-based recommendation systems in shaping online purchase decisions. The study contributes to consumer behavior and digital marketing communication literature by highlighting the interaction between cultural values, trust formation, and technology-driven consumer experiences. The findings provide insights for local beauty startups seeking to develop culturally relevant, transparent, and technology-oriented marketing strategies

Abstract

According to national data from the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI), approximately 71.3% of school-aged children in Indonesia own personal digital devices and use them for extended periods, including for non-educational purposes. In addition, 79% of children reportedly lack mutually agreed-upon rules for gadget use at home. These national trends highlight the importance of strengthening parental mediation in children’s digital activities. This issue is particularly salient in Aceh, a region with a high prevalence of misinformation, reflecting low digital literacy that affects parents’ ability to manage children’s online activities. This study aims to identify parental mediation strategies used for children aged 6–12 years, analyze factors influencing strategy selection, and explore challenges faced in digital parenting. A qualitative approach was employed, using semi-structured interviews with 15 parents of elementary school children in Banda Aceh and Aceh Besar who used digital devices. Restrictive mediation, involving rules on screen time and digital content, emerged as the most dominant strategy, followed by supervision through monitoring children’s digital activities and active mediation through discussion and explanation. Co-use, in which parents and children used digital media together, was less common. Moreover, technical mediation, involving parental control features and digital monitoring tools, was the least utilized strategy and was primarily adopted by parents with higher levels of digital literacy. The findings highlight the critical role of parental digital literacy in enhancing effective mediation strategies, contributing both theoretically to parental mediation studies and practically to digital parenting programs

Abstract

The advancement of digital technology has compelled the media industry to adapt to shifting audience consumption patterns. Local television faces significant challenges due to the emergence of digital media and internet-based platforms. Despite growing scholarly attention to media convergence, existing studies focus primarily on single-platform transitions and fail to address the structural dynamics of network-affiliated private stations, leaving a gap regarding how such stations sustain relevance within national network structures while preserving local identity. This study examines the cross-media strategy adopted by SMTV, a private local television station affiliated with the Jawa Pos network, in navigating the media digitalization era. Employing a qualitative case study method through in-depth interviews with seven key informants, eight months of participatory observation, and documentation analysis, the findings reveal three specific outcomes: (1) SMTV positions itself at the cross-promotion and cloning stages of Dailey convergence continuum, anchored by a TV-first production paradigm; (2) content is repurposed across YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok with platform-specific format adaptation, with initial indications toward integrated storytelling; and (3) three structural constraints, limited financial capital, network-affiliation content guidelines, and regulatory disparities, create a convergence ceiling preventing progression toward full convergence. Theoretically, the findings extend the convergence continuum framework by demonstrating that structural, regulatory, and network-affiliation factors significantly shape convergence trajectories in peripheral media markets of the Global South, challenging the assumption that convergence progression is primarily a function of organizational willingness

Abstract

The rapid growth of social media has created new opportunities for Islamic da'wah, particularly on TikTok, a platform widely used by younger audiences. Although TikTok is primarily known as an entertainment medium, studies examining its effectiveness as a digital da'wah platform remain limited, particularly those that employ quantitative engagement analysis. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of da'wah dissemination on TikTok by examining audience consumption patterns and levels of interaction with da'wah content. The research adopts a quantitative approach using the Digital Action Research method. Data were collected through social media metrics analysis, including likes, comments, shares, saves, and views from da'wah content on the TikTok account @managementtabligh. The analysis was conducted descriptively and empirically, guided by Social Information Processing Theory. The findings reveal significant correlations among views, likes, comments, saves, and shares, indicating high audience engagement with da'wah content on TikTok. These results demonstrate that TikTok is an effective medium for digital da'wah due to its ability to generate active interaction and broaden the reach of religious messages. Practically, this study provides insights for da'wah practitioners in developing creative and adaptive digital strategies, while theoretically contributing to the discourse on da'wah communication in social media contexts.

Abstract

The Iran–Israel conflict in June 2025 demonstrated that contemporary geopolitical struggles take place not only in the military realm but also in the realm of discourse, where meaning, legitimacy, and ideological hegemony are produced and contested through political communication. Although the study of political rhetoric in conflict has advanced, research integrating Critical Discourse Analysis, rhetorical theory, and hegemony theory to examine the rhetoric of political-religious leaders, particularly during acute crisis episodes, remains limited. This study aims to analyze the construction of resistance discourse in Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's rhetoric during the conflict and to uncover the discursive mechanisms linking language to power and ideology. The study employs a qualitative approach based on Fairclough's Critical Discourse Analysis method, supported by Kenneth Burke's rhetorical theory and Antonio Gramsci's hegemony theory, for 12 of Khamenei's official public statements. The results show that at the textual level, Khamenei constructs Iran's identity as an opponent of Western domination through antagonistic diction and symbolic metaphors. At the level of discursive practice, this rhetoric is circulated by global media to reinforce the narrative of the axis of resistance. At the level of social practice, this rhetoric reproduces anti-imperialist ideology and forms a counter-hegemonic discourse. These findings have theoretical implications for expanding the integrative CDA model and practical implications for understanding the role of media in contemporary geopolitical conflicts

Abstract

The increasing global concern over environmental issues has encouraged corporations to adopt green accounting as a mechanism for ecological accountability. In the digital era, environmental accounting has evolved beyond internal reporting to become a strategic instrument for public communication. This study examines how green accounting information is transformed through digital media into value-based communication that shapes stakeholder trust, corporate reputation, and sustainability advantage. This study employs an interpretive literature review to synthesize prior studies on green accounting, sustainability communication, stakeholder theory, legitimacy theory, and SDGs. This review suggests that digital media expands the visibility of accounting information and intensifies public scrutiny by facilitating broader stakeholder engagement and transparency. Environmental data becomes influential when translated into meaningful narratives aligned with ethical values and global sustainability standards. The integration of authentic disclosure and the SDGs strengthens stakeholder trust, which in turn contributes to corporate reputation as a strategic intangible asset. This conceptual review integrates accounting, digital communication, and sustainability into a unified framework that explains how environmental information is socially constructed within digital communication ecosystems.

Abstract

The role of Notaries as mediators in civil disputes has been widely studied from a notarial law perspective. However, research analyzing the dimensions of Notary persuasive communication in virtual mediation settings based on video conferencing is still scarce, particularly linking it to classical communication theory. This study aims to analyze Notary persuasive communication patterns as mediators in video conferencing-based civil dispute mediation, focusing on communicator credibility, message clarity strategies, and the dynamics of the communicant's psychological readiness. The study employed a qualitative descriptive method with an interpretive approach, through in-depth interviews and observations of five informants in Bandung City, analyzed using Carl Hovland's Persuasive Communication framework. The results indicate that Notary credibility is constructed performatively through displays of legal mastery and neutrality in the digital space; message clarity is achieved through the use of breakout room features and recording functions; while client trust develops following a cyclical pattern of hope, skepticism, and recovery influenced by the characteristics of the digital medium. This study contributes to expanding the application of Hovland's theory to the realm of technology-mediated professional-legal communication and recommends strengthening Notary digital communication competencies and harmonizing cyber notary regulations in Indonesia.

Abstract

Indonesia’s involvement in the Board of Peace (BoP) has generated public controversy regarding the consistency of its foreign policy in supporting Palestine. The debate intensified following pressure from the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), urging the government to reconsider its participation. Despite growing public attention, limited studies have explored how this issue is constructed within Indonesian media discourse. This study aims to analyze how Kompas.com and Tempo.co frame the BoP issue and how such framing reflects power relations and ideological processes. The research employs a qualitative approach using Robert N. Entman’s framing analysis, including problem definition, causal interpretation, moral evaluation, and treatment recommendation. To enrich the analysis, this study integrates Gramscian hegemony and the propaganda model by Herman and Chomsky as interpretive frameworks. The data consist of news articles published by Kompas.com and Tempo.co between January - March  2026. The findings show that Kompas.com frames the BoP as a pragmatic diplomatic strategy open to evaluation, while Tempo.co emphasizes accountability and policy consistency toward Palestine. These differences indicate that media actively shape public understanding through selective narratives. Both media rely on elite sources, suggesting that public discourse remains structurally constrained. The study has implications for strengthening critical media literacy and understanding the role of the press in constructing Indonesia's foreign policy
