Abstract

In two national surveys on tolerance, equality, and cooperation among religious communities conducted by the Ministry of Religious Affairs at 2019 and 2021, the DKI Jakarta harmony index was below the national average. This study aims to capture the activities and communication management patterns of the Religious Harmony Forum of DKI Jakarta, especially in overcoming intolerance and radicalism. Both intolerance and radicalism are often cited as triggers for the emergence of religious disharmony in DKI Jakarta. The results of this study show that, first, the communication management of the DKI Jakarta FKUB is not well-organized as a modern organization that always follows the developments based on communication and information technology. Second, the problem of the forum lies in the weakness of social regulations and government actions in implementing recommendations. Third, the role of this forum must be wider, and more innovative to support the country at a macro level to prevent intolerance and radicalism.

Abstract

Islamic media still faces obstacles in becoming the host for hundreds of millions of Indonesian Muslims. The barriers faced are fundamental because they relate to media management techniques and the values embodied in the news. In practice, noble Islamic values will have difficulties when constructed in various events presented as information content. This difficulty continues in the transformation of media platforms that transform into online forms. As a result, the power of the media is still controlled by the popular press with liberal tendencies. To look further at the obstacles faced, this study aims to find out, first, the form of construction of the reality of Islamic media and, secondly, the packaging of Islamic media content that is presented so that Islamic press is challenging to become the primary reference in fulfilling the information needs of the ummah. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative with qualitative content analysis techniques by analyzing several Islamic media. As a result, the construction form of Islamic media prioritizes internalization rather than externalization and objectification in making news. In contrast, the content produced in presenting the report is segregative because it only displays content containing Islamic rules and laws so that the messages conveyed by Islamic media are still specific and given minimally. The essential information that the audience wants to know immediately.

Abstract

Using a website has become a primary method for delivering information, doing promotion, and marketing activities. E-commerce business people acknowledged the importance of developing a reliable website to reach the market through the internet, as part of e-service, especially in a country with a large market share like Indonesia. Unfortunately, not every e-commerce web designer is aware of the website accessibility criteria, the lack of awareness creates barriers for persons with disabilities to access e-commerce websites, as buyers and sellers. The accessibility gap of those website limits the ability of persons with disabilities to optimize the presence of e-commerce as an economic opportunity. We need to overcome the barriers to create an inclusive society in Indonesia. This paper aims to provide an overview of the accessibility of e-commerce websites in Indonesia, to find the common web accessibility issues, classified them comparatively into several tiers, type of issues, and then calculates the correlation of total issues with the number of visitors. This study analyzes 39 e-commerce websites. We evaluate based on Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0, using an automated tool called "aXe". The study shows evidence of various accessibility issues of e-commerce websites in Indonesia, emphasizing the necessity of web designers to pay more attention to accessibility for users with disabilities. This study also provides several recommendations to website accessibility as part of e-service quality.

Abstract

Children raised by single parents often face more difficulties in family relationships than children raised in intact families. Single parents frequently struggle to balance work and parental responsibilities. Ernest Prakasa’s film Susah Sinyal attempts to raise awareness of the phenomenon of single parenthood by depicting the relationship and struggles of a single mother and her daughter. The objectives of this study were to (1) examine how the audience interprets the representation of single parents in films, and (2) investigate how this representation influences the audience’s understanding of single-parent life in the real world. This study included five children raised by single parents. This is a descriptive study that is divided into two stages using the reception analysis method. The first step is to perform content analysis or encoding. The second stage is decoding, which includes a Focused Group Discussion (FGD). The findings indicate that the representation of single parents in the film has various meanings for the audience. They felt that the film accurately represented their point of view while others said no. This film does not provide many new ideas or alternative perspectives on single-parent family life. Furthermore, the message conveyed in this film could be a reflection of Indonesian society.

Abstract

This research stems from using online dating, originally used to make it easier for users to find friends, relationships, or partners. However, online dating is often used to practice catfishing or identity fraud. This phenomenon arises as an implication of the ease of creating more than one personal account, which is used as a reflection of the identity that the perpetrator wants to display. This topic is related to the theme of computer-mediated communication (CMC), which allows individuals to communicate asynchronously, which makes it easier for perpetrators to find victims. This research aims to find out the experiences of catfishing perpetrators and how they interpret the experience of doing so. This research uses the phenomenological method, where each informant constructs meaning through their intersubjective side. Data collection techniques were conducted through in-depth interviews to obtain results from a first-person perspective. The results of this research describe the experience of catfishing perpetrators interacting and finding victims in online dating applications. In addition, the research also found that the perpetrators interpreted their catfishing practice not only as the fulfillment of sexual desires but also as the fulfillment of desires that are not in the real world (wanting to be praised, recognized, and have a sense of pride). The experiences and meanings of the research subjects reflect modernity and the fulfillment of sexual desires online. Unlike several previous studies, this phenomenological research can see the depth of the essence of catfishing behavior because it uses original data extracted from the perpetrator’s experience (first party).
