Abstract

The TJSL (Social and Environmental Responsibility) program requires justification for success in each of the program interventions. The Social Return on Investment (SROI) analysis is one of the methods used to measure the program's impact by identifying four types of effects, namely social, economic, environmental, and quality of life for stakeholders. The program measured in this SROI analysis is the Electrifying Lifestyle Innovation Assistance Program (Energy Conversion) for developing MSMEs producing Ant Sugar in Sendang Baru Village, Central Lampung Regency, Lampung. The research method used in this research is mixed methods, combining qualitative and quantitative research. The technical data was collected through observation, in-depth interviews, focus group discussions (FGD), and documentation. The data sources used are divided into two categories, namely primary data and secondary data. The results of the impact measurement show that an investment of IDR 125,000,000 by PT PLN UIP Sumbagsel produced an impact of IDR 238,357,619, meaning that every 1 rupiah invested generated an effect or benefit of 1.91 rupiah. The distribution of the most significant impact variants is the economic aspect at 78 per cent, quality of life at 19 per cent, and social at 3 per cent. Meanwhile, the distribution of impacts among stakeholders is most extensive for training participants at 38.4 per cent, LPPM Bandar Lampung University at 33.7 per cent, Mitra Usaha Sejahtera Cooperative at 18.1 per cent, Sugar Semut Wana Hijau MSMEs at 8.2 per cent and PT PLN UIP Sumbagsel at 1.6 per cent.

Abstract

This study discusses the socio-economic changes in the community in Way Huwi Village after the Sumatra Institute of Technology (ITERA) construction. The study used a descriptive qualitative method with a case study approach. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The results show that before the construction of ITERA, the people of Way Huwi Village still upheld cooperation and solidarity. However, after the construction of the campus, there was a change that led to a more individualistic tendency. Economically, the village community began to take advantage of the campus by diversifying jobs, thus creating new business opportunities, especially in the trade sector, which increased the local community's income. Likewise, the community's mindset changed, mainly focusing on income, education, and morals. However, negative impacts emerged, such as increased crime, juvenile delinquency, and violations of the social value system and norms.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the mythological (mytheme) aspects of Javanese culture contained in the novel "Gadis Kretek" by Ratih Kumala. The myths are studied using the Lèvi-Strauss structuralism approach. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method. The analysis method used is structuralism. The study results indicate several Javanese mythologies raised in the novel, namely mend ari-ari, fortune-telling by a clever person and meditation on Mount Kawi. These myths have different meanings and functions in the story. This study also shows that Javanese mythology in the novel "Gadis Kretek" not only complements the story but also has a deep meaning about Javanese cultural values. These myths provide an overview of how Javanese people view the world and interpret various life events. This study also discusses the relationship between episodes and characters in the novel "Gadis Kretek". Each part of the episode and the characters in this novel are interrelated to create a structure.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the conditions of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Pengudang Village using a SWOT analysis approach. MSMEs play a vital role in supporting the local economy and creating employment opportunities for the village community; however, their sustainability is often challenged by various internal and external factors. Employing a qualitative method and in-depth interview techniques, data were collected from MSME owners and relevant stakeholders. SWOT analysis was used to identify the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats affecting the development of MSMEs in this area. The findings reveal that MSMEs in Pengudang Village benefit from strengths such as access to local resources, including raw materials and labor, as well as support from the local community. However, weaknesses in access to capital, technology, and managerial skills remain significant obstacles. Opportunities arise from the growth of local tourism and demand for local products, yet threats emerge from intense competition with products from outside the region and limited infrastructure. Based on these findings, the study recommends efforts to enhance capacity and provide sustained support from the government and related institutions to strengthen the competitiveness of MSMEs in Pengudang Village.

Abstract

This article discusses the importance of educating ecologically and economically based social approaches in seagrass conservation in Taman Wisata Perairan Bintan, Kecamatan Gunung Kijang. The problems raised are the low awareness of the community on the importance of seagrass ecosystems and the effectiveness of the approaches used in conservation. This study aims to analyze and compare the effectiveness of ecological and economic approaches in involving coastal communities in seagrass conservation. The method was descriptive with a qualitative approach, including in-depth interviews to understand the community's views. The results show that the economic approach is more effective in encouraging community participation, with financial incentives increasing their awareness and involvement. In contrast, the ecological approach still faces challenges due to the community's low understanding of the long-term benefits of seagrass conservation. Combining these two approaches is proposed to achieve more optimal results in marine ecosystem conservation.

Abstract

This study aims to uncover the symbolic meanings embedded in the Cheng Beng tradition practiced by the Chinese community at the Sentosa Cemetery Complex, Pangkalpinang City. Cheng Beng is an annual ritual involving various activities such as cleaning graves, offering food and drinks, praying, and burning symbolic paper. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, this study employed in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation as data collection methods. Symbols such as incense, candles, five-color paper, spirit money, and food offerings carry profound meanings. Cleaning graves symbolizes respect for ancestors, candles represent spiritual enlightenment, and collective prayers signify gratitude, family solidarity, and hopes for ancestral protection. Beyond honoring ancestors, the tradition strengthens family bonds, preserves Chinese cultural values, and educates younger generations about the importance of filial piety. By employing the symbolic interactionism perspective, this research finds that symbolic meanings are constructed through social and cultural interactions within the Chinese community. The findings affirm that Cheng Beng is a spiritual ritual and a medium for preserving cultural identity, fostering family relationships, and maintaining community solidarity amidst modernization challenges. This tradition reflects the Chinese community's enduring values of respect, unity, and cultural heritage.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the myth of bullying experienced by the main character in the film “Ayah, Mengapa Aku Berbeda?” through Roland Barthes’ semiotic approach. The film portrays the life of Angel, a girl with a hearing disability, who frequently faces discrimination and bullying from her surroundings. This analysis applies Barthes’ concepts of denotation, connotation, and myth to uncover the hidden meanings behind the visual and narrative signs in the film. The findings reveal that the bullying of Angel is represented through various signs that indicate injustice, negative stereotypes, and the marginalization of people with disabilities. Denotatively, the signs in the film directly depict bullying, such as mockery and social rejection. The connotative meanings of these signs highlight the fear, sadness, and struggles the main character faces in confronting stigma. At the level of myth, the film both reproduces and challenges various social myths related to disability. Four central myths are identified: (1) persons with disabilities are portrayed as weak and objects of pity, (2) the belief that they do not need equal opportunities and recognition, (3) the dominance of power that determines their fate, and (4) the use of emotional expression, such as anger, as a means of social control. This study concludes that “Ayah, Mengapa Aku Berbeda?” is not merely a story of struggle, but also a form of social critique of the bullying still commonly experienced by people with disabilities.
