Abstract

Abstract

This descriptive qualitative study examined the non-observance maxim in the movie “Sonic the Hedgehog”. It used Grice’s and Cutting’s theories. The non-observance maxim is an interesting topic to analyze because this theory contradicts the theory of cooperative principle. The cooperative principle theory by Grice explains that in conversation people must act cooperatively but non-observance maxim theory explains sometimes in conversation, people did not act cooperatively. The cooperative principle consists of the maxim of quality, the maxim of quantity, the maxim of manner, and maxim of relevance. Meanwhile, the non-observance maxim consists of flouting maxim, violating maxim, infringing maxim, and opting out maxim. Researchers used the “Sonic the Hedgehog 2020” movie script because it is an actual data source. The data were collected through the observation and non-participatory technique and analyzed by using the pragmatic identity method. The researcher found 3 types of non-observance maxim in “Sonic the Hedgehog” movie.

Abstract

Advertising is not a neutral media, but rather a part of the dominant discourse. This paper focuses on elaborating ideologies in three Mandiri Online advertisements using Judith Williamson's semiotic analysis. The result, shows that Mandiri Online ads reproduce public awareness by representing women as a social group that likes to shop and fetishist of the commodities they want. The stereotype is attached as natural. Mandiri Online ads also perpetuate a culture of consumerism with products that offer transactions via online. Furthermore, the advertisements chose artists like Tara Basro and Reza Rahardian who are already well-known as young artists and performers in the Indonesian film industry. Bank Mandiri "borrows" the meaning of popularity, youth and achievement, so that the product obtains a significant meaning based on the artist's reference system.

Abstract

The Baliya Jinja traditional ceremony carried out by the Kaili people will discuss what is contained in the ceremony. Baliya Jinja for the people of the Kaili Tribe is a non-medical ritual healing ceremony and has been known for hundreds of years. For the Kaili people, this ceremony is not just a traditional routine, but substantially has its own meaning through an integrated system. Through semiotic analysis with the theory used by Ferdinand de Saussure, it can be seen that the Baliya Jinja traditional ceremony applied to the Kaili Tribe is a contextual language system that clearly contains certain meanings. The elements that make up the Baliya Jinja ceremony to be meaningful are of course the sign system as a symbol, grammar.
