Abstract

The utilization of Fish Aggregating Devices (FADs) in fisheries represents one of the most attractive and effective methods for increasing fishermen's catches. This review article aims to evaluate the use of FADs in enhancing sustainable catch outcomes and considers their role as an effective management tool. Various types of FADs have been designed and developed across different waters in Indonesia. There are several types of FADs commonly observed, including Squid FADs, Bio FADs, Sea urchins FADs, Electronic FADs, Bamboo raft FADs, Coconut leaf attractor FADs, Palm fiber attractor FADs, Light attractor FADs, FADs palm midrib, Rafia rope attractor FADs, Lubuk larangan FADs, and Fiber FADs. This paper reviews the different types of FADs, considering aspects such as the catch produced, technical specifications, and economic factors. Among these, portable FADs constructed from coconut leaves and raffia lines as attractors emerge as particularly effective and commonly used in Indonesian waters. FADs are also often combined with lift nets or electric fish attractors to enhance their effectiveness. Environmentally friendly fishing gears such as handlines and fishing rods are commonly operated around FADs. The types of fish caught typically include a mix of small and large pelagic species.

Abstract

Promotion is important in marketing activities, especially in increasing traffic, known as online promotion. Along with the development of increasingly sophisticated technology, the internet is no stranger to marketing a product. An effort to sell a product or service using Internet media can also be called e-marketing. This study aimed to know the effect of promotion through instagram on purchasing decisions for processed fish products at Dakon Frozen Food Sleman, Yogyakarta. The quantitative data of this study are questionnaires distributed to consumers of Dakon Frozen Food Yogyakarta. The sample used in this study were instagram users, with a sample size of 40. The data sources used are primary data and secondary data. The data collection technique used was distributing questionnaires. The data analysis techniques researchers use are simple linear regression, validity test, reliability test, normality test, linearity test, simple linear regression test, correlation coefficient test, determination coefficient test, and hypothesis testing. The results showed that the simple regression analysis equation obtained was Y = 11.242 + 0.756X + e. Instagram promotion (X) significantly influences the purchasing decision variable (Y), with a coefficient of 11.242. In testing the hypothesis using the t-test, the t-count value of the Instagram promotion variable is 11.242> from the table, which is 2.026 and a significant value of 0.000 <0.05. This means that H1 is accepted, namely: There is an influence of Instagram promotion on purchasing decisions for processed fish products at Dakon Frozen Food Sleman, Yogyakarta

Abstract

This research aims to analyze public perceptions regarding coastal conservation areas in Sumalata District, North Gorontalo Regency. Conservation areas have an important role in protecting marine ecosystems, but effective management requires the support of coastal communities. This research uses survey and interview methods to explore the community's understanding of the benefits, challenges and their role in managing conservation areas. The research results show that community attitudes towards area conservation are generally positive, with a good understanding of the importance of conservation. In addition, the public's awareness of marine conservation regulations is high, especially regarding the implementation of protection regulations which have a direct impact on their daily activities. This research recommends increasing education and active community involvement in the management of conservation areas as an effort to increase the effectiveness of marine conservation in Sumalata District, North Gorontalo Regency.

Abstract

The production of trash fish from capture fisheries in South Bengkulu Regency is remarkably high but remains underutilised by the local community. Predominant trashfish species include peperek (Leiognathus bindus), senangin (Polynemus tetradactylum), and gulamah (Johnius trachycephalus). This study aims to evaluate the organoleptic, physical, and chemical characteristics of fish balls derived from trash fish through compositional experimentation. The research employed a randomised complete design (RCD) with seven product formulations and three replications. The study was conducted and tested at the Faculty of Agriculture Laboratory, Universitas Sriwijaya, from March to May 2024. The results revealed significant effects of multi-species fish ball compositions on moisture content, ash content, protein content, fat content, and whiteness degree. The gel strength testing showed a maximum gel strength of 138.73 g/cm². Furthermore, this research highlights that factors influencing the success of diversification strategies, including climate, freshness, trash fish species, production processes, ice addition, and raw material availability, could contribute to increased value and community welfare

Abstract

Bacillus sp. are bacteria that play an important role in shrimp farming, especially in maintaining the balance of the pond ecosystem and as probiotics. This study aims to determine the effect of the type of diluent on the number of Bacillus sp. colonies formed in the isolation process and determine the most effective diluent. Three types of diluents were used, namely distilled water, NaCl solution, and infusion water (NaCl 0.9%). This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with 9 replicates in each treatment. The data obtained were analyzed using one-way ANOVA to determine the significance of differences between treatments, followed by Tukey test and LSD 5%. The results showed that distilled water produced the highest number of colonies (1711.56), followed by infusion water (1222) and NaCl solution (771.44). The ANOVA test showed highly significant differences (p<0.05) between treatments, with Tukey and LSD 5% test results supporting these findings. 0.9% infused water was proven to be an effective diluent for the isolation of Bacillus sp. which provides an accurate picture of the bacterial population, because growth is optimal and remains controlled. This study recommends the use of infusion solution in the process of bacterial isolation to be applied in pond culture, in order to improve water quality through the utilization of probiotic bacteria.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze research trends related to the handling of catch on purse seine ships using a bibliometric approach. The fishing industry has a strategic role in food supply and global economic growth, where purse seine is one of the most commonly used fishing gear. The handling of catches on board ships has a great influence on fish quality, economic efficiency, and the sustainability of the fishery industry. However, there are still various challenges in the implementation of optimal storage methods, pre-processing, and sanitation and hygiene on board. Using data from the Scopus database, this study analyzes publication patterns, research collaborations, and main topics that develop in the study of handling catch on purse seine ships. The results of the analysis show that there is an increase in research interest in the aspects of storage technology and sustainability of fishery products. In addition, this study identifies a gap in studies related to technological innovations in handling fish on ships that are more efficient and environmentally friendly. The implications of this study provide insights for academics, industry practitioners, and policymakers to improve more effective and sustainable catch management systems.
