Abstract

Learning materials are needed in the implementation of student learning activities to achieve learning success in accordance with the achievement of competencies. Preliminary studies showed that there was still a lack of learning materials development according to the students’ needs. This study aimed to determine the feasibility of science learning materials based on Project Based Learning with integrated STEM to improve students' creative thinking skills and teacher responses to the use of learning materials. The research method used was research and development (R&D) which included several stages, namely problem identification, data collection, design of science learning material using project-based learning with integrated STEM, design validation, design revision, small-scale trials, and big-scale trials. The results showed that the science learning materials developed were suitable for use, namely 3.87 categorized as a very valid category. Moreover, teacher responses obtained 97.33% (very good). Students have an increase in their creative thinking skills up to 0.37 (moderate). Therefore, the use of learning materials using project-based learning with integrated STEM becomes one of the best solutions to improve students' creative thinking skills.

The applied strategy was a sequential explanatory. The population of this research consisted of the fifth graders of 023 Pekkabata Public Primary School in the academic year of 2019/2020. The applied sampling technique was purposive sampling. The sample was taken from one class. It was the Melati V class. The findings showed that (1) the learning applied by the problem-based learning model was effective toward the learners' mathematics literacy skills; (2) both male and female learners with visual learning styles met the seven indicators of mathematics literacy. They almost mastered all indicators. However, for male and female learners with auditory and kinesthetic learning style could not meet all mathematics literacy skill indicators but only several of the indicators.

Abstract

This research aims to find out the primary school learners’ mathematics communication skills through PBL and TGT models. This research is a quantitative approached research. The research method is a quasi-experimental method with a non-equivalent pre-test and post-test control group design. The technique of collecting data was cluster random sampling. The sample consisted of the fifth graders of Primary School in Jatinangor. The school has applied the 2013 curriculum. The fifth graders of Sinargalih Public Primary School were taken as the experimental group while the fifth graders of Mekarsari Public Primary School were taken as the control group. The data collection were done by distributing the Mathematics Communication Skill Test (MCST), observation sheet, and interview. The applied data analysis was an Independent simple T-test and hypothesis test. The findings showed that there was the learners’ mathematics communication skill improvements taught by PBL or TGT, and the significant improvement the learners taught by PBL. The results obtained an average score of students taught by PBL was higher with 70.23 than TGT with a score of 65.30. It could be concluded there was significant improvement of learners’ mathematics communication skills taught by PBL or TGT models. Keywords: PBL, TGT, Mathematics Communication Skill

Abstract

This research aims to find out the discovery learning model toward the science conceptual understanding and perceptions of the danger of smoking for learners. This is experimental research with one group pre-test post-test design. The population consisted of the whole fifth graders in the academic year 2019/2020, from Ki Hajar Dewantoro cluster, Mertoyudan Magelang. The sample consisted of the fifth graders of Parikan Public Primary School, Kalinegoro Public Primary School, and Soroyudan Public Primary School. The applied data collection techniques were a test and a questionnaire. The applied instrument consisted of an essay and a questionnaire sheet. The obtained data were then analyzed by using N-Gain, descriptive statistics, and correlation tests. Based on the findings, it could be concluded that: (1) there were improvements of science conceptual understanding after being taught by the discovery learning model, (2) the perceptions upon the danger of smoking tended to be extremely excellent after being taught by the discovery learning model, and (3) the existence of positive and significant correlations between the science conceptual understanding and the perceptions of the danger of smoking for learners.

Abstract

Current learning directs 21st-century learning skills such as communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. These skills are the targets of 2013 curriculum learning with HOTS question forms, which allow them to think, analyze, and utilize critical thinking skills. Therefore, critical thinking skills as assessment processes or decision-making should consider the facts, situation, concepts, methods, and criteria in the learning process. This research aims to analyze fourth-graders' critical thinking skills in social study lessons. This research is qualitative. The data were collected through interviews, observation, and documentation. The data validity was done by source triangulation. The data analysis was done simultaneously with data collection. It consisted of data reduction, display, and conclusion. The findings showed that the fourth graders' critical thinking skills of Public Primary School 64 Buton consisted of 3 categories. They were (1) high critical thinking skills students with a percentage score of 23.3%, (2) moderate critical thinking skill students with a percentage of 54%, and (4) low critical thinking skill students with 23.3%.

Abstract

The ability of mathematical representation and self-concept is important for students to understand mathematics in life and the effective ability of students in learning. This study aims to analyze students' mathematical representation abilities in terms of high, medium and low self-concepts. This study used a qualitative method. Grounded theory type design. The research subjects were grade VII students of SMP Negeri 3 Pati. Based on the results of the study, it was found that students' mathematical representation abilities in terms of their high self-concept never gave up to always try to solve problems with the right steps. Students who have their own concept who think that failure is due to trying, not because of their limited abilities, they still believe that if they want to try they can definitely solve existing problems. In addition, students who have good mathematical self-concepts can also make their mathematical abilities better. Representative abilities of students seen from self-concept who have confidence in their abilities, but sometimes give up when solving problems with difficult questions. They have enthusiasm in solving existing problems even though there are still mistakes. The ability of student representation in terms of low self-concept, students who are included in the category of low self-concept do not have confidence in their abilities, they easily give up when solving problems that approach difficult ones.

Abstract

This study aims to analyzed the improvement of students’ scientific literacy in science learning with SETS vision using the problem based learning model. This quasi experimental research with nonequivalent control group design. the sampling was done by purposive sampling technique, it was gained that grade IV-A students of Primary School 4 Aikmel as experimental class and grade IV-B students of Primary School 2 Aikmel as control class. The data colecting technique was test. Then, it was analyze by N-Gain test and the independent sample t-test. the results showed that there were differences improvement of students’ scientific literacy between the experimental class that implemented problem based learning model in science learning with SETS vision and the control class that implemented expository model. based on N-Gain test results, it shows that experimental class obtained improvement 0,46, categorized moderate, meanwhile, the control class obtained improvement 0.28, showing poor category. The improvement test results that analyzed by independent sample t test shows that the significant value obtained in the sig. (2-tailed) column is 0.001 < 0.05. It is means there was a significant improvement between students’ scientific literacy in experimental and control class
