Abstract

Learning during the COVID19 pandemic through online and home learning presents several challenges and risks of learning loss that have long-term impact. The potential for learning loss can occur during online learning due to several factors due to educational stimuli not working optimally, reduced direct experience gain, differences in skills teaching of teachers in education, etc. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study design. The participants are two preschool principals and teachers who have been conducting e-learning activities since March 2020 until July 2021. Data collection was carried out through face-to-face interviews and voice notes. Data analysis using thematic analytic. The results of the study revealed that the decline in the quality of online learning faced the risk of potential learning loss in the future. The failure of online learning during this pandemic has created real barriers to some aspects of child development, namely the achievement of aspects of children's cognitive, social and emotional development. Other aspects of development are somewhat difficult for teachers to assess, but it is suspected that there has been a decline due to the limited time spent implementing e-learning. The participation rate of children and parents in online education decreased by 50% from the first semester to the second semester and the number of learning hours was very short. Efforts by schools to prevent the risk of potential learning losses include: blended learning, literacy and numeracy also visiting teacher programs.

Abstract

Hurlock (2006) argues that parents in general teach traditional gender role as a role for man and another role for woman. School and society teach that there is another role that can be done by both gender called the gender role. Gender roles can be developed with the same level of learning and the use of literature in schools. The purpose of this study is to describe the ef fectiveness of picture stories to teach the role of gender to the students in kindergarten. Paired t tests between pretest and posttest experimental group generate significant value (2-tailed) <0.05 is 0.000, which means there are significant differences between the control group and the experimental. Paired t-test calculation results betweenthe pretest and posttest control group generating value Significant (2-tailed)> 0.05 is 0.058, which means there is no significant difference. Paired t test results posttest experimental and control groups was no significant dif ference because they have Significant (2-tailed) <0.05 is 0.01, which means there are significant dif ferences. The result showed there are differences in understanding the role of gender in the experiment group before and after they are given the picture stories, and the differences in understanding also found in the experiment control group after treatment. From these fact, we can conclude hat picture stories are ef fective to be used to teach the gender role to children in kindergarten. This research has been conducted in accordance with theprocedures of the study, but there are still limitations in the implementation. Time constraints in the implementation of the study, with a longer time then the picture story will have more inf luence on the understanding of the role of child gender. Respondents were slightly. The study design is simple so just measure the effectiveness of a picture story but less identify the extent to which the understanding of gender roles

Abstract

The teaching of simple musical production is one of common practice in Indonesian early childhood education. This however is accompanied by the fact that most Indonesian early childhood centers has no ability to provide musical instrument to supports their children’s learning.  Considering  that  exposure  to  music  is essentially importance  to  encourage children’s sense of aesthetics the Semarang University’s Department of EarlyChildhood Education initiated a short course on the teaching of music to young children for the teachers of disadvantaged centers. Unlike typical course on music, in this short course plastic and metal wastes were used to substitute musical instruments. The wastes were those, which can produce the sound of percussions, such as used water gallons, jerrycans, and metal biscuit cans. Percussions are chosen considering the fact that the teaching of music in Indonesia is combined with fine motor development stimulation. In addition, percussion is much simpler for children to play compared to others. At the end of the short course, the department has learnt that not only the program has given an alternative for the teachers of how to teach music to their children, but also has giventhem much confidence to do that. On the other hand, even though the use of plastic and metal wastes were also an emergency exit strategy, somehow the teachers have learnt to not depend on the “real”, mostly expensive musical instruments amidst the lack of financial support. This has also allowed teacher to not ask for more money from theparents.
