Abstract

Low numeracy skills remain a persistent challenge in primary education, particularly in Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI), where students often struggle with basic arithmetic operations such as addition. This study aims to develop Extreme Addition Mathematics media to enhance the counting skills of fourth-grade Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI) students and evaluate its effectiveness. The research employed the Research and Development (R&D) method, guided by the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). The media was validated by material, media, and learning experts using Aiken's V coefficient, with results of 0.87 (material), 0.91 (media), and 0.89 (learning), all exceeding the 0.75 threshold, confirming its validity. Implementation involved 57 students divided into an experimental group (n=29) using the media and a control group (n=28) with conventional methods. Pretest and posttest data were analysed using Shapiro-Wilk normality tests, Levene's homogeneity test, and independent t-tests. The experimental group showed a significant improvement, with posttest scores increasing from 40.72 to 86.90, compared to the control group's 49.40 to 72.79. The N-Gain score for the experimental group was 77.4%, categorised as "effective." Findings indicate that gamified, interactive media significantly enhance students' engagement and mastery of addition operations. The study concludes that Extreme Addition Mathematics is a practical and effective tool for improving numeracy skills, aligning with constructivist principles and addressing challenges in conventional teaching methods. Recommendations include expanding the media for other mathematical operations and adapting it to digital platforms for broader applicability.

Abstract

Numeracy is a skill that has begun to be paid attention to in recent years, including in Indonesia. When solving numeracy questions, students often find it difficult, especially if the stimuli used in the questions are unfamiliar to students. Teachers can bridge this by using numeracy questions starting with stimuli that the students are familiar with or are around the students. The aim of this research is to produce numeracy questions at the middle school level that are suitable for use. This research is Research and Development research with the ADDIE (Analyze, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) model. The instruments used in this research were interview guides and questionnaires. Question validation was carried out by providing draft questions to 2 experts in the field of mathematics education at State Universities in Central Java, Indonesia. Data was analyzed descriptively, both qualitatively and quantitatively. The results of this research show that references to numeracy questions are needed. After preparing the numeracy questions through the design and development process, it was discovered that the questions prepared received a score of 4.27 in the very good category from expert validators.

Abstract

This study investigates the linguistic comprehension of third-grade students at MI Ma’arif Mangunsari concerning the distinction between active and passive sentence constructions through the integration of student worksheets (LKPD). Utilizing a qualitative descriptive design, data were obtained through systematic observation, semi-structured interviews, and analysis of students’ written responses. The results reveal that the LKPD facilitated learners’ grammatical awareness, with 75% of students demonstrating accurate identification of syntactic patterns in active and passive clauses. The contextual and interactive nature of the LKPD supported learners’ construction of linguistic meaning; however, difficulties persisted—particularly in recognizing the functional roles of subject and object as well as determining appropriate morphological adjustments in passive predicates. These findings indicate that learners’ syntactic and morphological competence is still emergent. The study affirms that LKPD can function both as a pedagogical tool and as a linguistic diagnostic instrument for mapping students’ comprehension. Further research is recommended to broaden the linguistic scope and participant diversity.

Abstract

Traditional game-based learning has attracted growing attention in elementary mathematics education because it links formal mathematical concepts with cultural experience, concrete activity, and social interaction. However, empirical findings remain scattered across different game types, cultural resources, methodological designs, and mathematical domains. This study aims to synthesize research on traditional game-based mathematics learning in elementary schools and to clarify its pedagogical position within ethnomathematics-based instruction. A Systematic Literature Review design guided by the PRISMA 2020 framework was employed. Articles were identified through Google Scholar and screened using predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria. From 221 initial records, 15 empirical studies published between 2021 and 2025 were included in the synthesis. Data were analyzed through descriptive mapping and thematic synthesis, focusing on publication trends, research methods, subjects, data collection techniques, traditional game or cultural resources, mathematical content, and reported learning contributions. The findings show that research on this topic developed steadily, with the highest number of studies appearing in 2025. Qualitative research dominated the corpus, followed by design research, while quantitative evidence remained limited. Elementary school students were the most frequent research subjects, and observation was the most common data collection technique. Traditional game and ethnomathematical resources supported arithmetic, geometry, measurement, spatial reasoning, numeracy, motivation, cooperation, participation, and cultural pride. This review contributes by reframing traditional game as cultural artifacts, learning media, instructional design contexts, and representational systems, while emphasizing the need for empirical designs, validated instruments, teacher involvement, and systematic classroom implementation.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze students’ misconceptions on the topic of temperature and heat using the Certainty of Response Index (CRI) model as a diagnostic tool. The research employed a quantitative descriptive approach involving a multiple-choice test accompanied by CRI scales to identify not only incorrect answers but also the confidence level behind each response. Data analysis included calculating the proportion of correct and incorrect answers, average CRI scores, and categorizing students into groups of scientific conceptions, misconceptions, or lack of knowledge. The results showed that several students selected incorrect answers with high CRI values, indicating strong misconceptions that must be addressed through targeted instructional strategies. Meanwhile, students with incorrect answers but low CRI scores were categorized as having a lack of knowledge rather than misconceptions. The findings highlight that misconceptions occurred most frequently in indicators related to heat transfer, the relationship between temperature and molecular motion, and factors affecting changes in temperature. The study concludes that CRI is an effective diagnostic method for distinguishing levels of student understanding and is useful for informing remedial instruction. These findings provide meaningful insight for ededucators in designing better learning interventions to reduce misconceptions.
