Abstract

Stunting is a chronic nutritional problem that has a long-term impact on the quality of human resources. Although the prevalence of stunting in Indonesia shows a downward trend, the figure still exceeds the WHO threshold. One important determinant of stunting is the adequacy and quality of protein intake in early childhood. This study aims to explore parents' understanding of animal and vegetable protein consumption and its relationship to the risk of stunting. A qualitative approach with a phenomenological method was used to capture the subjective experiences of parents with children aged 0–5 years in areas at high risk of stunting. Data were collected through semi-structured in-depth interviews and analyzed using the Colaizzi thematic technique. The results showed that parents' understanding of the importance of protein quality, especially from animal sources, is still low. Economic factors, cultural perceptions, and low nutritional literacy are the main obstacles in providing balanced nutritious food for children. Vegetable protein tends to be the main choice because it is more affordable, although biologically less optimal. This study emphasizes the need for contextual and community-based nutritional interventions, as well as multi-sector policy support to improve community access and understanding of the importance of a combination of animal and vegetable protein in preventing stuntings

Abstract

Indonesia is prone to natural disasters because it is located at the confluence of three active tectonic plates. This condition causes high earthquake, volcano, and tsunami activity in Indonesia. Mount Kelud is the most active volcano in Indonesia with cycles that recur every 8 to 15 years. The community service method carried out is to collect data on the area, population, targets, capacity, vulnerability level, and empirical data on the 2014 eruption of Mount Kelud. Then conduct analysis, calculate estimates of health logistics needs, especially reproductive health, socialize the results of the analysis, and conduct disaster preparedness education. This activity was carried out for 6 weeks from March 12 to April 21, 2025. Based on the results of the risk assessment, the Ngancar District, Kediri Regency area has a score of frequent risk scale, severe impact scale, and priority and impact scale in the high category. To overcome the health crisis, a contingency plan is needed, especially for the reproductive health sub-cluster, which includes the preparedness of target data, existing capacity in the region, the level of vulnerability, and the estimated amount of health logistics needed to anticipate the eruption of Mount Kelud. Mount Kelud has a periodic eruption pattern in 8 to 15 years. The contingency plan for dealing with the health crisis of the eruption of Mount Kelud is very important for health service stakeholders because it can minimize the adverse impacts caused, increase rapid response, and ensure smooth coordination between related institutions in dealing with the natural disaster effectively and efficiently. It also supports disaster risk reduction efforts at the community level and strengthens the resilience of local communities.

Abstract

Picky eating behavior if it continues will result in a lack of nutritional needs, causing children's growth and development to be disrupted as a result children experience less than optimal nutrition. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between picky eating behavior and nutritional status in children aged 36-60 months at Santa Maria Pare Kindergarten, Kediri Regency. The analytic research design uses a cross sectional approach. The independent variable is picky eating behavior and the dependent variable is nutritional status. The population is 95 children with a sample of 76 respondents. The sampling technique used simple randoml sampling. Data collection was carried out on 17 – 22 July 2023 at Santa Maria Pare Kindergarten, Kediri Regency. The research instrument used the CEBQ (Child Eating Behavior Questionnaire) questionnaire and digital scales. Data analysis used the contingency coefficient test. The results showed that 42 children (53.9%) were picky eatings and 39 had a poor nutritional status (51.3%). The contingency coefficient test results ρ = 0.002 <0.05 which indicates H1 is accepted, meaning that there is a very close relationship between picky eating behavior and nutritional status. Picky eating occurs depending on the diet and type of food consumed by the child, if the intake of other energy sources is sufficient to meet their energy and protein needs, thereby protecting the child from decreasing nutritional status and maintaining normal nutrition

Abstract

Abstract

Puberty is the stage where the sexual organs have matured, marked by the ability to reproduce. During this period, teenage girls can experience menarche or their first menstruation due to hormonal changes that occur in women. The lack of readiness of young women to face menarche can make young women afraid, anxious, embarrassed and confused. The readiness of young women to face menarche needs to be assisted by providing information from parents, teachers, midwives or cadres. The aim of this research is to determine the level of knowledge possessed by teenagers in dealing with menarche at elementary school Class 6 Muhamadiyah Ambon. The research method is descriptive. The research was carried out from 14 to 21 October 2024 at grade 6 elementary school Muhamadiyah Ambon, using a total sampling technique from a population of 30 respondents. The instrument in this research uses a questionnaire with data collection techniques filled in by the respondents themselves, the data is collected and processed by the researcher. Based on the research results, the majority of 18 people (60%) from the distribution of respondents' characteristics based on knowledge were female students with good knowledge, almost half of them 8 (26.6%) female students had sufficient knowledge and a small number of 4 people (13.4%) had poor knowledge. The knowledge a person has will determine a person's behavior. Teenagers' knowledge needs to be developed through the surrounding environment such as parents, teachers and the role of health workers to increase teenagers' knowledge about preparing for menarche and how to deal with menarche

Abstract

The development of digital technology provides easy access to information, but on the other hand, it has an impact on increasing excessive screen time exposure in early childhood. This exposure has been proven to affect growth and development, especially in children's cognitive, social emotional, and physical aspects. This phenomenon is increasingly worrying in Indonesia, including in Kediri Regency, where gadget use from an early age is increasing without adequate supervision. Parents' lack of understanding about digital risks and screen time management exacerbates this condition. This program is designed as a community engagement activity based on education and intensive mentoring for parents of children aged 3–10 years. The methods used are interactive outreach, focus group discussions (FGDs), and mentoring on screen time management practices at home for two weeks. The main target group is 45 families in the working area of the Pare Community Health Center, Kediri. After the program implementation, there was a significant increase in parental knowledge about screen time management (the mean score increased from 56 to 85, p<0.05). In addition, there was a 30% decrease in average screen time for children within four weeks, as well as an increase in active supervision practices for children while using devices. These results demonstrate that educational interventions and parental guidance are effective strategies for fostering healthy digital parenting patterns. Good knowledge coupled with hands-on practice helps parents manage their children's screen time and prevent long-term negative impacts. The CERDAS program has proven effective as a community service innovation in improving family digital literacy and protecting children from digital risks from an early age. Similar programs are needed for replication in other regions, as well as integration into integrated health service post (Posyandu) programs for toddlers.
