Abstract

Contemporary architecture in many Islamic countries faces the dual challenge of preserving cultural identity while addressing energy efficiency and thermal comfort in harsh climatic conditions. This research explores the integration of modular construction with the timeless principles of Islamic architecture and the use of indigenous, climate-responsive materials as a sustainable solution. A prototype of a modular residential unit was designed, incorporating key Islamic architectural elements such as a central courtyard, mashrabiya (ornate lattice screens), and strategic orientation. The design utilized locally sourced materials with high thermal mass, such as rammed earth and reclaimed timber. The thermal performance was rigorously evaluated using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and dynamic thermal simulations with EnergyPlus software. The simulation results were benchmarked against a conventional modern residential unit of equivalent size. The integration of passive design strategies resulted in a 25% reduction in annual cooling loads. Indoor operative temperatures remained within the comfort zone for 60% longer than the baseline case, substantially minimizing reliance on mechanical air conditioning. The mashrabiya and courtyard proved effective in facilitating natural ventilation and reducing solar heat gain. This study validates that merging modular construction with climate-responsive local materials and Islamic architectural wisdom offers a viable path toward sustainable and culturally resonant architecture.

Abstract

Sleep is a fundamental biological process that supports cognitive efficiency, emotional stability, and overall psychological well-being. Increasing academic demands, technological engagement, occupational pressures, and lifestyle changes have contributed to a growing prevalence of sleep deprivation across various populations. Insufficient sleep has been associated with impairments in cognitive performance and emotional functioning, yet the interconnected effects of sleep loss on these domains remain insufficiently understood. This study aims to examine the effects of sleep deprivation on cognitive function and emotional regulation through a controlled experimental approach. A randomized controlled pretest-posttest design was employed involving 120 healthy young adults aged 18–25 years. Participants were randomly assigned to either a sleep deprivation group or a control group maintaining a normal sleep schedule. Cognitive performance was assessed using standardized neuropsychological tests measuring attention, working memory, and executive functioning, while emotional regulation was evaluated through validated psychological scales. Statistical analyses included repeated-measures analysis of variance, independent-samples t-tests, and correlation analyses. Findings revealed that sleep deprivation significantly reduced attention, working memory, executive functioning, emotional stability, and positive affect. Significant associations were also identified between declines in executive functioning and impairments in emotional regulation. The study concludes that sleep deprivation exerts a substantial negative influence on both cognitive and emotional processes, highlighting the critical role of adequate sleep in maintaining adaptive psychological functioning and overall well-being.

Abstract

Background. This research focuses on the decoding of ancient languages and the complexity of the symbols used by the Egyptian, Mesopotamian, and Indus Valley civilizations. The background of the research is based on the importance of understanding language as a key tool for uncovering the social, spiritual, and administrative lives of past civilizations. Purpose. The purpose of the study was to explain how these symbols can be interpreted using a combination of traditional philological methods and artificial intelligence technology.   Method. The methods used include manual linguistic analysis supported by modern algorithms to speed up the decoding process. Results. The results showed that the symbols of Ancient Egypt were easier to decrypt due to additional documentation, while the symbols from the Indus Valley remained difficult to understand. Symbols from Mesopotamia show complex dual meanings, especially in religious and astronomical contexts. Case studies show that ancient languages are multifunctional tools that reflect advanced social and spiritual structures.   Conclusion. The conclusion of the study confirms that an interdisciplinary approach is essential to uncover more secrets from past civilizations. This research enriches the understanding of ancient languages and shows that technology can speed up the decoding process, although it is not yet fully adequate. This contribution paves the way for further research involving global collaboration and the development of new technologies.

Abstract

Background. The rapid ecological degradation occurring across Southeast Asia has intensified scholarly interest in indigenous philosophical systems that articulate holistic models of human environment relations. Tri Hita Karana (THK), a foundational Balinese philosophical framework emphasizing harmony among humans, nature, and the divine, has increasingly been invoked in discussions of sustainability; however, empirical and conceptual examinations of how THK can inform contemporary environmental ethics remain limited. Purpose. This study aims to analyze THK as a philosophical foundation for sustainable practices by exploring its metaphysical assumptions, socio-cultural manifestations, and potential integration into modern sustainability paradigms.   Method. The research employs a qualitative hermeneutic design, combining textual analysis of Balinese lontar manuscripts, ethnographic documentation, and thematic synthesis of secondary environmental studies. Results. The findings reveal that THK offers a distinctive triadic model of relational ethics parahyangan (divine harmony), pawongan (social harmony), and palemahan (ecological harmony) that collectively provide normative guidance for sustainable living and resource management. These principles demonstrate compatibility with contemporary ecological frameworks while offering culturally grounded motivations for environmental stewardship. Conclusion. The study concludes that the THK philosophy constitutes a viable ethical foundation for sustainable development, supporting integrative approaches that blend spiritual values, communal responsibility, and ecological awareness. The philosophical coherence and cultural rootedness of THK suggest strong applicability in policy design, environmental education, and community-based conservation efforts.
