Abstract

Abstract

Kata kunci: Representasi Islam; Emmanuel Macron; Separatisme Abstract This study focuses on the representation of Islam in French President Emmanuel Macron's speech entitled "discours du president de la République sur le thème de la lutte contre les separatismes". The speech caused a lot of polemics in various Muslim countries regarding the opinions on the understanding of speech's contents. The local French media and international media have not provided a comprehensive analysis of the speech related to Muslim representation in the speech. Therefore, through van Leeuwen's critical discourse analysis and AntConc's software-based corpus linguistics approach, this research reveals the representation of Islam that is displayed in the speech. Based on the results of the study, it was found that 73% of dominance lexemes in the speech described the French government's intention in an effort to protect the country from various threats of radicalism. Furthermore, only 27% of lexeme concordance represented Islam which is associated with separatism, extremism, and radicalism movements. The association does not directly generalize Islam as a radical religion, but specifically refers to the Salafi and Wahhabism as examples of Islamic separatist movements. Keywords: Islam Representation; Emmanuel Macron; Separatism

Abstract

This research aims to explain the correlation between Bahasa Indonesia’s vernacular variation and the social discrimination experienced by Eastern Indonesian. The researchers apply qualitative-quantitative method. The data were collected from the distributed online questionnaires which were filled by 41 respondents from Eastern Indonesia (East Nusa Tenggara, Sulawesi, Maluku, Papua). The findings show that there is a diglossic phenomenon between standard Bahasa Indonesia (High variety) and Bahasa Indonesia of Vernacular Eastern Indonesia (Low variety). The unique dialectal characteristics of Eastern Indonesian in Bahasa (phonological, lexical, and morphological) raised the issue of linguistic racism and linguistic privilege. Eastern Indonesian speakers of Bahasa are considered as minority speech community who suffered racism and discrimination. They experienced intimidation from people’s undermining impersonation, underestimation, and exclusion from the dominant speech community. They felt ashamed of their vernacular language identity and tend to imitate dominant accents, such as Javanese or Jakartan Indonesian. This is a serious issue that can increase social disparities and conflict among Indonesians. To solve the problem, the researchers suggest that Indonesian government must introduce Bahasa Indonesia’s variation (including morphological, lexical, and phonological variation from all Indonesian region) in the formal education as the best solution to give societies understanding of linguistic tolerance.

Abstract

In the contemporary digital era, political participation is increasingly mediated through online spaces, situating social media platforms as pivotal arenas for civic discourse and democratic contestation. This study investigates how Indonesian citizens engage with political issues through the hashtag #KawalPutusanMK on X, in response to decisions by the Constitutional Court. Employing a mixed-methods design, this study integrates computational sentiment analysis with Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) approach to analyze 3,508 user-generated posts collected between August and September 2024. Focusing on the textual (micro) level, this study examines lexical choices, emotional polarities, and metaphorical constructions that reflect public sentiment and their ideological stance. Findings show a predominance of negatively charged discourse, particularly targeting political elites and institutions. Users frequently employ emotionally loaded vocabulary and metaphors such as portraying democracy as a dying body, politics as theater, political elites as immoral rulers, and resistance as sacred duty serve to further delegitimize institutional authority. These linguistic features signal a broader erosion of public trust and dissatisfaction with institutional legitimacy. Additionally, the discourse constructs collective identity and mobilizes resistance, illustrating how online platforms function as tools for political engagement and symbolic struggle. By uncovering the rhetorical and affective strategies in digital protest, this study contributes to a deeper understanding of how language mediates public criticism and democratic participation in contemporary Indonesia. The findings have implications for media regulation, digital civic literacy, and policy development in a post-authoritarian context. Future research should focus on how digital platform discourse contributes to strengthening democratic resilience and promoting institutional accountability

Abstract

This study investigates the representation of Chinese patriarchal culture through linguistic expressions in Disney’s 2020 live-action film Mulan. Employing a descriptive-qualitative method and grounded in a sociolinguistic framework, particularly the intersection of language and gender, this research analyzes how patriarchal values are encoded in character dialogue. A relational analysis approach, informed by gender and family relation theories, reveals distinct speech patterns between male and female characters. Male characters predominantly use declarative and evaluative speech acts characterized by positive metaphorical expressions, signifying authority and affirmation within the societal hierarchy. Conversely, female characters’ utterances are largely expressive and commissive in nature, often marked by negative metaphors, reflecting marginalization and constrained agency. The findings suggest that patriarchal cultural norms continue to shape social expectations and restrict women’s participation in the public sphere. Within the narrative, gender roles are assigned based on biological sex rather than individual competence or evolving social identities, underscoring the persistence of gender-based power asymmetries in Chinese patriarchal discourse.

Abstract

Abstract

This community service project focuses on enhancing multilingual digital marketing competencies through the utilization of artificial intelligence (AI) technology at the Job Training Center (UPT Balai Latihan Kerja) of Magelang City. The program was designed to improve the skills of MSME (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises) participants in leveraging AI for digital marketing, with an emphasis on the effective creation of multilingual content. The project was implemented in three main stages: (1) Planning, which involved preparatory activities, identification of participants' needs, and the development of relevant training materials; (2) Implementation, as the core phase, in which participants received hands-on training on the application of AI technologies particularly ChatGPT for generating marketing content, social media posts, and blog articles in multiple languages; and (3) Evaluation, during which participants' competency improvements were measured through direct assessments of their generated content and the completion of questionnaires. The evaluation results indicated a significant improvement in participants' abilities to produce engaging and multilingual digital marketing content, as well as a deeper understanding of AI utilization in marketing strategies. This program is expected to make a substantial contribution to expanding the market reach of MSMEs and enhancing their competitiveness in an increasingly global market environment.

Abstract

This community service program was designed to address the low level of digital literacy among high school teachers, particularly in integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) into teaching. Observations revealed that most teachers were unfamiliar with AI tools like ChatGPT and Gemini, making it difficult for them to adapt to technological changes in education. The main problem identified was the lack of practical knowledge on how to use AI to design interactive and meaningful learning materials. To solve this, a structured training program was conducted at MAN Temanggung, consisting of workshops, hands-on sessions, and task-based learning focused on prompt creation and digital lesson planning. The training empowered teachers to explore, implement, and evaluate AI tools in their classrooms. As a result, participants demonstrated increased confidence and competence in using AI to support their teaching. This program contributes to enhancing the quality of education and aligns with the goals of Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education).
