Abstract

Biogas is a natural gas produced by anaerobic bacteria from processing organic matter and used in energy production. The use of biogas is a green technology that is beneficial to the environment. Biogas technology facilitates the use of animal and plant waste such as cow dung and water hyacinth plants. This study aims to optimize biogas production to achieve optimal biogas volume. Anaerobic Fermentation produces biogas for 21 days. Response Surface Methodology (RSM) with a Central Composite Design (CCD) matrix is ​​used for this optimization. To find the ideal location, the biogas volume data is entered into Minitab. The error value from the optimization results is then computed to verify this optimum location. The optimized biogas produces a volume of 344 mL with an error value of 1.74% at a composition of 0.6089 kg of water hyacinth and 0.6860 kg of cow dung.

Abstract

Shallot is one of the kitchen spices that is often used by the community. Shallot contains several useful compounds and one of them is phytosterol. Along with the development of science and technology, phytosterol can be used to reduce blood cholesterol levels and prevent heart disease, so it is very beneficial for human health. In this study, phytosterol compounds were identified and isolated. The dried onion was then pureed and sifted to 100 mesh. The sieved powder was then extracted by reflux extraction method within 6 hours. The results of the extract were then isolated by column chromatography and identified by Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC). The TLC test used -sitosterol as a standard and anisaldehyde reagent as a stain appearance. The TLC plate which had stained appearance was then analyzed using the TLC Scanner method. The results of the TLC test showed that the extract of positive red onion was purple and contained fitosterol. The results of the TLC Scanner also show that the peak and spectrum of the samples were the same as the standard -sitosterol and positively contained fitosterol.

Abstract

Poly Lactic Acid (PLA) is a type of polymer that is widely researched because it can meet the requirements for biodegradable polymers and can be used in several of applications. Making PLA using the direct polycondensation method is carried out in 3 process stages, namely dehydration, polycondensation and recrystallization. Dehydration was carried out at 130℃ for 1 hour. Polycondensation was carried out at varying temperatures of 160℃, 180℃ and 200℃ with a concentration of 0.15% for 6 hours. In the meantime, 50 ml of methanol was added, and vacuum conditions were used to carry out the recrystallization process. After that, the viscosity method was used to determine PLA's molecular weight. The highest molecular weight and other properties of PLA, such as its functional groups and thermal behavior, are the aim of this study. The findings of the study indicate that PLA has its maximum molecular weight at 180°C, where it is 15576 gr/mol for PLA+Al(DS)3 and 10771 gr/mol for PLA+AlCl3. The PLA+Al(DS)3 and PLA+AlCl3 spectra display the same bands in the stretching and bending vibration modes, according to the FTIR test. Meanwhile, in the TGA analysis, the highest decomposition was shown by PLA+Al(DS)3 at a temperature of 365℃.

Abstract

Lack of environmental cleanliness is one of the factors that can cause the growth of mosquito larvae. Therefore, educational efforts are needed about efforts to maintain environmental cleanliness as a solution to eradicate mosquito larvae. The purpose of this education is for students to know how to maintain environmental cleanliness and efforts to prevent the growth of mosquito larvae. This education is carried out through 4 stages, namely: 1) Introduction and Pretest 2) Material Explanation 3) Posttest and 4) Mutual Cooperation with the 3M movement (Draining, Covering, and Burying). The results of the education provided showed that 86,36% of students really understood the solution to eradicating mosquito larvae

Abstract

Korelasi antara nilai-nilai Aswaja dan kegiatan perkuliahan sangat penting guna memperkuat pendidikan karakter mahasiswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan tentang pendidikan karakter berbasis Aswaja di Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Sidoarjo. Menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan jenis penelitian deskriptif.  Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa di lingkungan Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Sidoarjo telah menjalankan nilai-nilai karakter berbasis Aswaja seperti sikap tasamuh, amar ma’ruf nahi munkar, sikap tawasuth dan i’tidal, serta Sikap Tawazun yang memiliki keselarasan dengan pengembangan karakter bangsa seperti karakter relegius, disiplin, dan bersahabat. Kemudian, pendidikan karakter “semangat kebangsaan” dan “cinta tanah air” artinya Mahasiswa dilingkungan Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Sidoarjo memilki karakter kebangsaan yaitu cara berpikir, bertindak, dan berwawasan yang mengutamakan kepentingan bangsa dan negara dari pada kepentingan pribadi dan kelompok. The correlation between Aswaja values and lecture activities is very important to strengthen student character education. This study aims to describe Aswaja-based character education at Nahdlatul Ulama University, Sidoarjo. Using a qualitative approach with a descriptive research type. The results of the study indicate that students at Nahdlatul Ulama University, Sidoarjo have implemented Aswaja-based character values such as tasamuh attitudes, amar ma'ruf nahi munkar, tawasuth and i'tidal attitudes, and Tawazun attitudes that are in harmony with the development of national character such as religious, disciplined, and friendly characters. Then, character education of "national spirit" and "love for the country" means that students at Nahdlatul Ulama University, Sidoarjo have a national character, namely a way of thinking, acting, and having insight that prioritizes the interests of the nation and state rather than personal and group interests.

Abstract

Pegon script is one of the valuable legacies of the scholars who spread Islam in the archipelago, especially for Nahdlatul Ulama'. However, its existence has decreased until now except in the Salaf Islamic Boarding Schools. On the other hand, MI NU KH. Mukmin as a formal educational institution tries to help preserve Pegon script in schools. This study aims to describe the background, objectives, and elements of Pegon script learning, as well as its influence on formal educational institutions, especially MI NU KH. Mukmin. This study uses a phenomenological approach. Data collection techniques use in-depth interviews and literature studies. The results of the study show that Pegon script learning is one of the compulsory subjects at MI NU KH. Mukmin in a local content. There is also a Pegon script learning guidebook, learning evaluation, and supporting learning media like other subjects. In addition, after students have completed learning the Pegon script, learning continues with learning the Safinatun Najah book until grade 6. On the other hand, learning the Pegon script is to equip students, because most of the graduates of MI NU KH. Mukmin Sidoarjo continue their education to Islamic boarding schools. MI NU KH. Mukmin also received appreciation for the 1st Place PWNU East Java Award in 2023 through its superior programs, one of which is learning the Pegon script.

Abstract

Biogas adalah gas yang terbentuk melalui proses fermentasi anaerobik bahan organik, seperti kotoran ternak, limbah pertanian, maupun sisa makanan, dengan bantuan aktivitas mikroorganisme. Dalam penelitian ini perlakuan awal campuran untuk peningkatan produksi biogas dari berbagai bagian dari limbah tanaman pisang yang dicampur dengan kotoran sapi diselidiki. Perlakuan awal atau sampel meliputi P1 (kotoran sapi : air : daun pisang); P2 (kotoran sapi : air : batang pisang); P3 (kotoran sapi : air : kulit   pisang); P4 (kotoran sapi : air : tangkai daun  pisang); P5 (kotoran sapi : air : buah  pisang). Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui perbandingan produksi biogas dari berbagai bagian dari tanaman pisang dengan campuran kotoran sapi. Langkah-langkah penelitian ini meliputi penyiapan bahan baku, proses anaerobic digestion, mengamati kondisi fisik campuran dan analisa yang meliputi pengukuran pH awal dan pH akhir campuran, serta pengukuran volume biogas yang dihasilkan.. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kondisi campuran sebelum fermentasi terlihat homogen dan basah, sedangkan setelah fermentasi tampak pemisahan fase serta pertumbuhan jamur pada beberapa sampel. Nilai pH awal berada pada kisaran 7,1–7,7 dan menurun setelah fermentasi menjadi 4,1–7,0. Adapun volume biogas tertinggi dicapai pada P3 (98,31 mL), diikuti P2 (82,84 mL), sedangkan volume terendah terdapat pada P1 (2,11 mL).

Abstract

Plastic waste is a growing environmental problem in Indonesia and negatively impacts environmental sustainability. This activity aims to raise public awareness about plastic waste management through the ecobrick method. The activity was carried out online through a National Webinar organized by the Chemical Engineering Study Program, Nahdlatul Ulama University, Sidoarjo. The webinar implementation consisted of preparation, implementation, and reporting stages. The material presented discussed the impact of plastic waste and the stages of ecobrick making, from the process of cleaning, drying, cutting, compacting, and assembling plastic waste into useful products. The results of the activity showed that participants gained a new understanding and awareness of the importance of wise plastic waste management. Participants also understood the benefits of ecobricks as an alternative environmentally friendly product that can be used as a simple construction material and decorative element. Thus, this activity is expected to encourage public participation in creating a cleaner and greener environment through sustainable plastic waste management.

Abstract

Eceng gondok (Eichhornia crassipes) merupakan gulma perairan yang memiliki pertumbuhan sangat cepat dan berpotensi menimbulkan permasalahan lingkungan. Namun, kandungan lignoselulosanya menjadikan eceng gondok berpotensi dimanfaatkan sebagai bahan baku biomassa untuk energi terbarukan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh pretreatment melalui variasi metode pengeringan dan ukuran partikel terhadap karakteristik biomassa eceng gondok sebagai bahan baku briket tanpa perekat. Proses pretreatment meliputi pencucian, pencacahan, pengeringan menggunakan sinar matahari, oven, serta kombinasi keduanya, kemudian dilanjutkan dengan proses grinding dan pengayakan. Analisa proksimat dilakukan untuk mengetahui perubahan kadar air, kadar abu, volatile matter, dan fixed carbon sebelum dan sesudah treatment termal. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pretreatment termal mampu meningkatkan kualitas biomassa secara signifikan. Kadar air menurun dari 9,95% menjadi 6,50% dan volatile matter menurun dari 56,30% menjadi 24,80%, sedangkan fixed carbon meningkat dari 17,40% menjadi 43,16%. Metode kombinasi pengeringan menghasilkan biomassa yang lebih homogen dengan efisiensi energi yang lebih baik dibandingkan metode tunggal. Secara keseluruhan, proses pretreatment mampu meningkatkan karakteristik fisik dan termal eceng gondok sehingga berpotensi digunakan sebagai bahan baku biomassa alternatif yang ramah lingkungan dan berkelanjutan.

Abstract

Mading budaya merupakan salah satu media komunikasi yang berperan penting dalam membangun kesadaran bersama terhadap nilai-nilai tradisi, memperluas wawasan, serta mendorong kreativitas masyarakat. Pada RT 04/RW 04 Desa Kendal Pecabean, keberadaan mading budaya tidak hanya menjadi sarana untuk menyampaikan informasi, tetapi juga wadah edukasi dan inspirasi bagi seluruh lapisan masyarakat. Melalui mading ini, warga dapat mengenal lebih dekat kekayaan budaya lokal, mulai dari kesenian, adat istiadat, hingga cerita-cerita yang sarat makna. Selain itu, mading budaya juga menjadi ruang partisipasi aktif masyarakat dalam menyalurkan ide, karya tulis, maupun dokumentasi kegiatan sosial yang mencerminkan kebersamaan. Dengan demikian, mading bukan hanya pajangan statis, melainkan medium dinamis yang menghidupkan interaksi antarwarga. Kehadiran mading budaya terbukti mampu menumbuhkan rasa memiliki, memperkuat identitas lokal, serta menanamkan semangat gotong-royong. Lebih jauh, mading ini juga diharapkan menjadi media pembelajaran nonformal yang mendorong generasi muda untuk lebih peduli dan bangga terhadap budaya daerahnya. Dengan peran ganda sebagai ruang edukasi dan inspirasi, mading budaya di RT 04/RW 04 Desa Kendal Pecabean hadir sebagai jembatan penting untuk merajut kebersamaan sekaligus melestarikan warisan budaya yang ada. Cultural wall magazines are a vital communication medium for building collective awareness of traditional values, broadening horizons, and fostering community creativity. In RT 04/RW 04 of Kendal Pecabean Village, the cultural wall magazine serves not only as a means of conveying information but also as a platform for education and inspiration for all levels of society. Through this wall magazine, residents can gain a deeper understanding of the richness of local culture, from arts and traditions to meaningful stories. Furthermore, the cultural wall magazine also provides a space for active community participation in channeling ideas, writings, and documenting social activities that reflect togetherness. Thus, the wall magazine is not merely a static display, but a dynamic medium that fosters interaction between residents. The presence of the cultural wall magazine has been proven to foster a sense of belonging, strengthen local identity, and instill a spirit of cooperation. Furthermore, this wall magazine is also expected to become a non-formal learning medium that encourages the younger generation to be more concerned with and proud of their regional culture. With its dual role as an educational and inspirational space, the cultural wall magazine in RT 04/RW 04, Kendal Pecabean Village, serves as an important bridge to foster togetherness while preserving existing cultural heritage.
