Abstract

This study aimed to explain the appraisal resources manifested in argumentative essays written by undergraduate students with high and low proficiency level, as well as their similarities and differences of using appraisal resources. This study employed qualitative research in the form of written discourse analysis. The appraisal resources checklist adapted from Martin and White (2005) is used to determine the distribution of appraising items of attitude, engagement and graduation in argumentative essays written by high and low proficiency students. Out of 16 students chosen as the sample, 8 students are categorized as having high proficiency level, and the others eight belong to low proficiency level. The results of this study revealed that both groups of students utilized all subsystem of appraisal resources. However, high proficiency students dominantly used engagement rather than attitude and graduation. Meanwhile, the lows one utilized more attitude than engagement and graduation. In term of attitude, high proficiency students produced more appreciation. It showed that the argumentative essays written by high proficiency students are more appreciative than emotional and judgmental to align their personal voices in conveying their thoughts and opinions. In addition, in term of engagement, both groups dominantly applied entertain item in which it showed that both groups of students are successful to show their authorial voice towards the topic given. Finally, in graduation feature, force is dominantly used by both groups of students which means that they tried to intensify and quantify their arguments to build strong persuasion.

Abstract

All programs in the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences of UIN SGD Bandung are expected to produce outputs that have an impact on improving quality in all fields. Therefore, each program is always maintained its quality both in terms of planning, process and evaluation. The Countenance Evaluation Model is a model that raises broader insights in evaluating the implementation of a program, including the Student Tahfidz Institute. The purpose of this study was to determine the implementation of the Tahfidz Program Students of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences UIN Bandung in terms of planning, process and evaluation of programs using quantitative descriptive method. The results showed that planning, process and program evaluation had a positive effect on the quality of the Tahfidz Program Implementation Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, UIN Bandung.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of educational films as a learning medium in deepening students' understanding of Islamic Cultural History and improving their critical thinking. This research method uses a qualitative approach with descriptive analysis. Data was collected through observations and interviews. Constructivism theory is used as a theoretical foundation to understand how educational films can help students relate new knowledge to their everyday experiences. The results of the study show that the use of educational films significantly increases students' interest in learning, critical thinking and involvement in the learning process. Students showed an increased understanding of PAI's history and stated that the film made the material more engaging and easier to understand. The recommendation of this study is that the PAI curriculum in elementary schools should make more use of educational film media as a learning aid. In addition, educators need to be trained in the use of new technologies and media to create a more engaging and interactive learning environment. Thus, the use of educational films can be an innovative strategy in improving the quality of PAI history learning, and facilitating a deeper and more meaningful understanding of the material taught.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui tingkat spiritual para ibu rumah tangga dan memverifikasi faktor-faktor yang berkontribusi terhadap ketahanan spiritual di Kabupaten Cirebon. Metode yang digunakan pada penelitian ini yakni mix method, kombinasi antara metode kualitatif dan kuantitatif. Subjek penelitiannya yaitu para ibu rumah tangga berjumlah 36 orang dengan kategori miskin di Wilayah Kabupaten Cirebon. Data kualitatif diperoleh melalui in-dept interview, sedangkan data kuantitatif diperoleh dari penyebaran angket yang disusun dengan mengacu pada Spiritual Transcendence Scale dari Piedmont. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa secara rata-rata tingkat spiritualitas para ibu rumah tangga tersebut sebesar 4,52 yang berada pada kategori tingkat spiritualitas yang tinggi. Hasil analisis faktor ketahanan spiritualitas menunjukkan bahwa yakin pada kematian sebanyak 94,4%, perasaan tenang dan bahagia setelah melakukan ritual ibadah sebanyak 86,1 %, keyakinan akan kehadiran Tuhan sebanyak 77,8%, yakin bahwa Tuhan selalu ada untuk menolong hambaNya sebanyak 77,8%, sisanya faktor lain dapat meningkatkan kesejahteraan mental para Ibu rumah tangga. Tingkat ketahanan spiritual yang tinggi terbukti mampu menjadikan mental seorang ibu rumah tangga sejahtera sehingga ketahanan keluarga terjaga. Temuan penelitian ini dapat menambah pengetahuan bagi masyarakat dan khusunya para penyedia layanan sosial untuk melakukan pendekatan dari aspek spiritual bagi kesehatan mental seseorang.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi bagaimana dinamika komunikasi antara guru dengan anak sindrom down untuk menelaah hubungan anak sindrom down dengan masyarakat. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode observasi partisipatif digunakan untuk merekam interaksi dalam berbagai situasi pembelajaran dan lingkungan inklusif. Teori interaksionisme simbolik Herbert G. Blumer digunakan untuk menjelaskan proses interaksi berdasarkan pemaknaan antara bentuk interaksi simbolis dan non-simbolis dalam mewujudkan konsep tindakan bersama sebagai hasil interaksi. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan metode observasi, wawancara mendalam, dan studi dokumen kepada guru dan orang tua murid dengan teknik pemilihan informan melalui purposive sampling. Penelitian ini melibatkan guru dan anak sindrom down di SLB YKS 3 Katapang yang melibatkan dua orang guru dan dua anak sindrom Down sebagai objek penelitian. Temuan menunjukkan adanya variasi dalam pola interaksi antara guru dan anak dengan sindrom Down, dengan beberapa poa yang menekankan pada pendekatan individualis dan responsif, sementara yang lain cenderung lebih terstruktur dan berorientasi pada tujuan. Implikasi penelitian untuk praktik pendidikan inklusif dan pengembangan intervensi pedagogis yang lebih efektif juga dibahas dalam artikel ini. penelitian ini berkontribusi pada gambaran bagi masyarakat dalam memahami bagaimana anak sindrom down dalam berinteraksi dan mengurangi pandangan negatif terhadap anak disabilitas, terutama anak sindrom down.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate politeness in presidential candidate debates from the Interactional Sociolinguistics (IS) perspective. The approach was taken because there was a lack of studies that connected politeness with IS, considering that IS is great for examining social phenomena, especially sensitive conversations between high-status people. To acquire a clear insight into the phenomenon, this study uses discourse analysis on video transcripts of “The Third Debate of Presidential Candidates for the 2024 Election,” taken from the KPU RI YouTube channel. The analysis process drew on existing research to support the interpretation. The researcher analyses 170 data (clustered into 117 data of positive face and 53 data of negative face), including the frequencies and categories from the face-saving acts (FSA) and face-threatening acts (FTA). The identified aspects of Face-threatening Acts (FTAs) are criticism, threat, interruption, critical disagreement, dismission or ignorance, and demanding a satisfying response. Face-saving Acts (FSAs) identified aspects are providing equal opportunity, clarifying and apologizing, requesting cooperation, agreement while giving criticism, and providing equal opportunity. Fascinatingly, this study found that face-threatening acts sometimes necessary to use and impolite acts are acceptable if the speaker had “roles” in the conversation. Additionally, this study discovered that it is possible to measure the significance level of politeness, which will be extremely helpful for future research.

Abstract

Divorce is a complex challenge in the institution of marriage that affects individuals and society at large. This study examines the idea of spiritual resilience to comprehend the internal elements that contribute to keeping marriages stable. We conducted in-depth interviews and observations with married couples in Cirebon using pertinent case studies. A qualitative analysis was conducted to seek a deeper understanding of the role of spiritual values, beliefs, and practices in strengthening the marriage relationship. This study uses Talcott Parson's theory of structural functionalism to explore how marital resilience affects marital stability and reduces the risk of divorce. Through an analytical approach, this article highlights the contribution of spiritual resilience in preventing divorce and provides insights into how to integrate this concept into marriage counseling intervention programs and practices. As such, this article contributes to a better understanding of the important role of spiritual resilience in strengthening marital relationships and preventing divorce in contemporary society.

Abstract

This study examines spiritual resilience from a sociological standpoint and as a sort of immunization against stress during pandemic times. The Piedmont theory of the spiritual dimension was used in this study to address the question of how the mental health of the stay-at-home mother was impacted by spiritual resilience, and George Herbert Mead's theories of symbolic interactionism were used as an analytical tool to examine spiritual resistance from a sociological perspective. By gathering samples from household mothers in the Cirebon district, the study employs a qualitative descriptive method of case studies. The findings indicate that household mothers' mental health was significantly impacted by their spiritual endurance. By having spiritual resilience, household mothers could give positive meanings to their social thoughts and actions. This article attempts to make a significant contribution to the study of the role of household mothers in facing the challenges and stresses of pandemic times.

Abstract

This research aims to make teaching materials for Management Students of the Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung. This research uses a research and development (R&D) approach with a 4D (Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate) model. A total of 78 students and experts from ESP teachers were taken as research samples.  The results of the study show that the 4D model can produce relevant, organized and effective ESP material in the context of management. For this reason, the product is considered to have met the requirements for efficacy, practicality, and validity, so the product can be used after revision.  Suggestions for further research on integrating digital technology into ESP instruction to improve student engagement and accessibility.

Abstract

This research departed from some problems faced by senior high school students in writing argumentative text such as their difficulties to organize the idea, lack of intention in writing, and lack of technique especially in writing argumentative text. The objective of this research was to find out whether the use of fishbone diagram could improve students’ ability in writing argumentative text or not. This research was a classroom action research. The subject of this research was 34 students consisted of 12 males and 22 females. The instruments of this research were writing test, students’ and teacher’s observation checklist, and interview. The research was conducted in two cycles which included plan, action, observation, and reflection. The result of this research showed that there was an improvement of students’ ability in writing argumentative text in every cycle. In the pre-test, the students’ mean score was 58.2. In cycle 1, the students’ mean score was 66.7. In the cycle 2, the mean score of the students was 77.7. It could be revealed that fishbone diagram was effective in improving students’ ability in writing argumentative text.
