Abstract

Microorganisms, which include bacteria, fungi, viruses, and parasites, are a large class of microscopic organisms with one or more cells. Among them are Staphylococcus epidermidis, Bacillus subtilis, Proteus mirabilis, and Streptococcus pyognes. One type of plant that has health benefits is the cocoa plant (Theobroma cacao L.) which belongs to the Malvaceae tribe. In this study, methanol extract of cocoa fruit peel (Theobroma cacao L.) was made as an inhibition test against Streptococcus pyognes, Bacillus subtilis, Proteus mirabilis, and Staphylococcus epidermidis bacteria. Cocoa pod peel (Theobroma cacao L.) was the test material used in the experimental methodology of this study. Simplisia preparation, ethanol solvent maceration extraction, agar diffusion method antibacterial activity testing, and phytochemical screening for chemical compound component analysis are part of the stages of this research. Drying of cocoa fruit peels produced 26.5 kg of simplisia, and maceration with ethanol produced 14.41 g of thick extract. Antibacterial activity of ethanol macerated extract of cocoa fruit peel was shown by inhibition against Streptococcus pyognes bacteria by 21 mm, Bacillus subtilis bacteria by 68 mm, Bacillus subtilis bacteria by 14.06 mm, Proteus mirabilis bacteria by 14.4 mm, and Staphylococcus epidermidis bacteria at a concentration of 100 mg/ml. The results of phytochemical screening of ethanol extract of cocoa pod skin showed the presence of anthraquinone glycosides, flavonoid chemical compounds, triterpenoids, tannins, and saponins.

Abstract

Arabica coffee has a myriad of benefits for the health of the human body, Arabica coffee contains secondary metabolites including flavonoids, tannins and saponins which have good antibacterial properties in leaves, seeds, and even coffee fruit skin, where Arabica coffee is taken in a mature state to see how much antibacterial is contained in coffee beans. The purpose of this study was to identify the chemical content of secondary metabolites contained in the ethanol extract of Arabica coffee beans and the antibacterial activity of the extract in terms of preventing the growth of Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli bacteria. This research method is experimental, plant material is taken identified then made simplisia, Arabica coffee beans are extracted using ethanol p.a. solvent, phytochemical screening and antibacterial activity tests are carried out using the agar well diffusion method (Agar Well Plate Diffusion Assay Method). The diameter of the growth inhibition of microorganisms is one of the factors observed in the ethanol extract of Arabica coffee beans undergoing phytochemical screening which shows the presence of terpenoids / steroids, alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins and saponins. The concentrations used start from 100 mg / ml, 50 mg / ml, 25 mg / ml, 12.5 mg / ml, 6.25 mg / ml and 3.12 mg / ml in the ethanol extract of Arabica coffee beans (Coffea arabica L.). The ethanol extract of Arabica coffee beans showed antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli bacteria with the largest inhibition zone of 9.5 mm in diameter observed at a concentration of 100 mg/ml, while the smallest inhibition zone of 0.73 mm in diameter was observed at a concentration of 6.25 mg/ml, in contrast to Staphylococcus aureus bacteria which had the smallest inhibition zone at a concentration of 100 mg/ml and the largest inhibition zone at a concentration of 8.48 mm at 12.5 mg/ml with an inhibition zone diameter of 1.73 mm.

Abstract

Penyimpanan obat harus disimpan dengan cara yang baik dan benar tidak dapat disimpan sembarangan karena akan menyebabkan kerusakan pada obat dan mengakibatkan efek samping pada obat. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan memberikan edukasi mengenai penyimpanan obat di desa Pancur Batu. Program ini dilaksanakan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman masyarakat Pancur Batu dalam menyimpan obat yang ada dirumah sebagai pertolongan pertama sebelum ke fasilitas kesehatan. Pelaksanaan dalam kegiatan ini melaksanakan penyuluhan, memberikan edukasi, pemutaran vidio dan pendampingan intensif kepada peserta. Evaluasi kegiatan ini menggunakan pretest dan posttest untuk mengukur peningkatan pengetahuan peserta. Penilaian yang diberikan mengenai pengetahuan obat bebas hasil posttest peserta meningkat sebanyak 40% dari rata-rata nilai pretest 40 posttestnya 80, penilaian menyimpan obat hasil posttest meningkatkan sebanyak 60 % dari rata-rata nilai pretest 30 posttest 60, penilaian manfaat menyimpan obat hasil posttest meningkat sebanyak 58% dari rata-rata nilai pretest 30 nilai posttest 88, dan cara membuang obat tidak terpakai hasil posttest meningkat sebanyak 50% dari nilai rata-rata pretest35 posttestnya 80. Hasil kegiatan pengabdiaan masyrakat kategori manfaat menyimpan obat dengan cara benar memberikan dampak positif yang bermanfaat kedepannya terhadap masyarakat pancur batu karena masyarakat dapat menerapkan penyimpanan obat dirumah dengan cara yang baik. (1) perhatikan petunjuk penyimpanan pada kemasan dimana setiap obat memiliki petunjuk penyimpanan berbeda mengenai suhu penyimpanan, kelembapan dan paparan cahaya; (2) obat disimpat dalam kemasaan asli dan tertutup rapat; (3) jauhkan dari anak-anak; (4) perhatikan suhu dan kelembaban; (5) periksa tanggal kadaluwarsa; (6) hindari menyimpan obat di mobil; (7) dan memperhatikan tanda-tanda kerusakan obat. Cara ini baik digunakan agar mutu obat tetap terjaga dan memastikan ketersediaan obat saat dibutuhkan.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman dan keterampilan masyarakat dalam pembuatan pelembab bibir berbahan alami sebagai alternatif perawatan bibir yang aman. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan ini meliputi ceramah, diskusi, dan praktik langsung pembuatan pelembab bibir. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan di Kelurahan Pekan Bahorok, Kecamatan Bahorok, Kabupaten Langkat, dengan peserta sebanyak 20 orang yang dibagi dalam dua kelompok. Proses pembuatan pelembab bibir dilakukan menggunakan bahan alami seperti shea butter, beeswax, olive oil, dan cocoa butter. Evaluasi dilakukan melalui pre-test dan post-test untuk mengukur peningkatan pemahaman peserta, serta kuesioner untuk menilai kepuasan terhadap kegiatan. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan peningkatan pemahaman masyarakat mengenai manfaat pelembab bibir dari 70% menjadi 90%, bahan alami yang dapat digunakan mencapai 100%, dan pemahaman tentang penyebab bibir pecah-pecah meningkat menjadi 80%. Selain itu, 90% peserta memahami bahwa pelembab bibir dapat digunakan pada bagian tubuh lainnya. Hasil kuesioner evaluasi menunjukkan bahwa peserta merasa puas dengan pelatihan, dengan 90% menyatakan bahwa media yang digunakan menarik dan materi mudah dipahami. Kesimpulannya, kegiatan ini berhasil meningkatkan wawasan masyarakat mengenai pembuatan dan manfaat pelembab bibir berbahan alami serta pentingnya menjaga kesehatan bibir.

Abstract

The application of biopesticides is one of the safest alternatives to realize organic agriculture that does not cause harmful impacts to both consumers and the environment. This activity aims to apply biopesticides in eradicating fruit flies (Bactrocera sp.) on Sweet Orange (Citrus X Sinensis) plants. The partner location is the Bukit Rumah Sendi Farmers Group in Karo Regency. Eucalyptus grandis leaves were extracted using steam distillation then the concentration of 1,8 Sineol was determined using GCMS and the concentration was 52%. Eucalyptus oil was mixed with kerosene and detergent then determined the LC50 value in fruit flies and observed for 24, 48, 72, and 96 hours and produced an LC50 value of 35%. This shows that biopesticides are quite effective in eradicating fruit flies.

Abstract

Barangan banana (Musa acuminata Colla.) is one of the banana varieties which is often found in Indonesia and is widely consumed so that banana peels become organic waste and need to be processed further. The novelty of this research is to prove the antibacterial activity of the ethanol extract contained in banana peels on the Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria which is supported by the GCMS instrument to show the active compounds contained which can be used in the development of anti-bacterial drugs. Pseudomonas aeruginosa is an opportunistic pathogen that is widespread and inhabits the homeland and environments in contact with humans and animals. These bacteria can attack infections of the skin, blood, lungs and digestive tract. The ethanol extract was tested against Pseudomonas aeruginosa using the agar well diffusion method. the compounds contained in the samples were analyzed using Phytochemical Test obtained alkaloids, flavonoid, terpenoids, steroids, saponins and tannins were obtained. There are six active compounds: Palmitinic acid (C16H32O2), Cyclopentanol acetate (C7H12O2), 1-(2-Thienyl) Ethanone oxime (C6H7NOS), 2-Furancarboxaldehyde (C5H4O2), 4H-Pyran-4-one, 2,3-dihydro-3,5-dihydroxy-6-methyl- (C6H8O4), and 2(3H)-Furanone, 5-methyl- (C5H6O2) with percent area respectively : 3,49, 12,60, 26,46, 20,85, 3,82, and 2,98 %. Antibacterial activity with inhibition zone diameters at concentrations of 100, 50, 25, and 12.5 mg/ml were 12.80, 10.70, 5.00 and 2.00 mm, respectively. This work will advance the development of antimicrobial drugs.

Abstract

Hydroponic cultivation is increasingly popular in urban areas due to its efficiency and hygiene. However, pest attacks remain a major obstacle, often addressed by the use of chemical pesticides. Long-term use of chemical pesticides negatively impacts health, and in hydroponic farming, they can leave harmful residues and negatively impact the environment. Utilizing coconut shell waste as an organic pesticide is an innovation that supports environmentally friendly agriculture. This program aims to use liquid smoke produced from the pyrolysis process of coconut shells as an organic pesticide to control pests in hydroponic plants in Terjun Village, Medan Marelan District. The activity stages are carried out using participatory and educational methods, including preparation, implementation, and evaluation. The preparation stage includes site surveys, coordination with partners, and preparation of educational materials and leaflets. During the implementation stage, socialization, demonstrations of organic pesticide application in the form of liquid smoke, and distribution of leaflets are conducted. The evaluation stage was conducted through a questionnaire test before and after the activity (pre-test and post-test) to assess the increase in participants' understanding. The final evaluation results showed an average increase in participants' knowledge of 32.6%, from a pre-test score of 62.4% to a post-test score of 95.0%. The highest increase occurred in the understanding of liquid smoke and its functions by (+ 43%), followed by an increase in the aspect of knowledge about organic pesticides by (+ 40%) and interest in using liquid smoke by (+ 35%).

Abstract

Pineapples (Ananas comosus) contain fiber, water, natural carbohydrates, minerals, vitamins, and the enzyme bromelain. This community service activity aimed to educate 50 students of Batubara High School (SMA Batubara) about the use of pineapple as a natural probiotic source. The program aimed to increase their knowledge and raise awareness about reducing their consumption of unhealthy foods and fast food, thus promoting a healthy digestive system. This program utilized participatory and educational methods. Prior to the presentation, the Tjut Nyak Dhien University community service team evaluated the program using pretests and posttests. The purpose of the pretest was to measure the extent of knowledge of grade X and XI students regarding the use of pineapple as a probiotic. Then, after the presenter delivered the material using power point and infocus media, he conducted a demonstration and showed probiotics that could be used immediately. The community service team conducted a posttest to see the extent of the increase in participants' understanding from the socialization provided. The results of this socialization activity showed a significant increase in (1) the assessment category of attitudes and awareness of digestive health where the pretest value had an average value of 35% and the posttest was 90%; (2) the assessment category of the content and benefits of pineapple increased by 80% with a pretest value of 30% (3) the probiotic assessment category also increased by 85% with a pretest value of 25% (4) the probiotic assessment category from pineapple increased by 87% with a pretest value of 30%. This outreach program is expected to not only increase students' understanding of probiotics but also foster sustainable healthy lifestyle habits among adolescents, as the fermentation process promotes healthy digestion, especially for those who frequently consume unhealthy foods.
