Abstract

Economic independence is an essential competence that must be possessed by the younger generation, including students (santri) in Islamic boarding schools (pesantren), which have traditionally focused on moral and religious education. However, modern economic challenges require santri not only to excel spiritually but also to develop financial literacy and adaptive entrepreneurial insight. This community service program aims to enhance the financial literacy of santri through training in gold investment based on sharia principles, as it is considered a relatively safe, stable, and halal investment instrument. The implementation methods include needs analysis, material development, training sessions, investment simulations, interactive discussions, and evaluation. The results indicate an improvement in santri’s understanding of sharia entrepreneurship concepts, muamalah principles, personal financial management, and their ability to conduct gold investment simulations. Evaluation analysis also shows that participants are able to understand the relationship between entrepreneurship, financial planning, and investment as efforts to achieve economic independence in alignment with Islamic values. This program contributes to strengthening the financial literacy of santri and has the potential to be further developed through continuous mentoring and integration with pesantren-based economic programs.

Abstract

The Pertukaran Mahasiswa Merdeka (PMM) program is a flagship scheme of the Merdeka Belajar–Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) initiative designed to strengthen students' national insight, tolerance, and socio-cultural adaptation. This community service project aims to describe the process and outcomes of PMM mentoring through the Shankara group at Politeknik Negeri Semarang (Polines) in 2024. The implementation method adopted a participatory approach comprising three main stages: planning and local potential mapping, execution of 16 Modul Nusantara activities, and monitoring and evaluation based on the Kirkpatrick model. The mentoring results indicate that the Shankara group successfully integrated the full series of activities, which consisted of: 8 diversity activities, 5 reflection activities, 2 inspiration activities, and 1 social contribution activity across the Central Java and DIY regions. The diversity and inspiration activities proved effective in broadening cross-cultural perspectives and motivating participants' entrepreneurial spirit. Reflection sessions deepened the meaning derived from these experiences, while the social contribution action at Kalitalang Ecotourism in Klaten delivered a practical impact for the local community. Overall, this structured mentoring effectively facilitated the transformation of students' attitudes from an ethnocentric to an ethnorelative stage while strengthening a shared national identity.

Abstract

Power Plant Engineering textbooks play a vital role in supporting English for Specific Purposes (ESP) instruction; however, their lexical characteristics have received limited attention in corpus-based research. This study aims to identify the lexical patterns of Power Plant Engineering textbooks and examine their pedagogical implications for ESP. A specialized corpus was compiled from nine English-language textbooks and analyzed using AntConc version 4.3.1. The analysis focused on word frequency, collocations, lexical bundles, and concordance patterns. The findings revealed that the corpus is characterized by a high frequency of discipline-specific vocabulary, recurrent collocations, and formulaic lexical bundles that reflect the distinctive features of Power Plant Engineering discourse. These lexical patterns indicate that technical knowledge is communicated through stable phraseological units rather than isolated words. The findings provide an empirical basis for developing discipline-specific vocabulary lists, corpus-informed teaching materials, and ESP curricula. This study demonstrates that corpus analysis is an effective approach for identifying authentic engineering language and supporting evidence-based ESP instruction.
