Abstract

This paper presents a research report on the characteristics of information presented in eight blogs in 2008 and how those eight bloggers (blog owners) empowered civil society through their published articles. Field data demonstrate that the articles they published contained empowerment messages, achieved positive responses from the blog visitors, and implied that the blog owner conducted their social function as bloggers. However, the dispersed information in the blogs has only obtained one response from each visitor. That information could not develop a dialog for creating a consensus on what civil society should do when they encounter the state. Having seen the relations between persons and blog, bloggers were reluctant to apply interactivity principle when they receive responses from their blog visitors. They were receptive, appreciative, and sympathetic to individuals in responding to their articles. However, only a few of them wished that their participants changed and developed. They expected their changed and grown turned into empowered citizen when they faced the state. In short, Indonesian bloggers are only partially in empowering civil society. Keywords : blog, blogger, civil society empowerment, interactivity principle, dialog, and relations between persons and blog.

Abstract

Journalism could be a tool to produce news stories bombastically. Bombastic news on bad reality could produce bad things. In order not to make journalism producing bad things, we have to have some principles in reporting bad realities. The article suggests one principle: to present bad reality as the way it is. The practice of this principle is not so difficult since the fact has shown that the Indonesian press has been made public sphere on bad realities successfully. However, in practicing this principle, the joumalists still place their selves as doers inprofession and doers in media.

Abstract

Indonesian press will continue to broadcast environmental news. From the journalism point of view, the news must be clear, understanable, and complete. However, for the time being, the result is not optimal. Audience is still unsure of the environmental news that reaches them. Their emotions are not touched by the environmental news, so they can not contribute to solving environmental problems. Based on this fact, come up idea to make storytelling as a way to convince audience in environmental journalism. Before implementing this concept, the writer conducted research on storytelling practices in broadcasting news of forest and land fires (karhutla) in Riau Pos. Evidently Riau Pos, who had received an award from the provincial government of Riau, has not practiced storytelling in broadcast karhutla news. This fact reinforces the writer to propose storytelling as a convincing art in environmental journalism. This concept leads to a narrative style that takes into account the nature of writing, target of writing, news angles and news languages by presenting the news from the perspective of journalists.

Abstract

The art changing and development of the information technologies, mainly Internet, have to be responded quickly by Indonesian government bypreparing a set of new policies to reduce its negative impacts. This idea is driven by the fact that many problems experienced by the Internet users, so far, cannot be solved by the laws and regulations which already existed before i.e. LawNo 36/1999 andNo. 9/ 1999. Therefore, the author suggests in this article that more pressures and intensive political lobby are needed to convince the DPR that it is very urgent to take immediate action i.e. to discuss the Tekmatika bill and then legalize it to become the law.

Abstract

Law No.32, 2002, was formed in response to the problems society has faced for approximately four years regarding the absence of laws governing the broadcast media (lawless broadcasting era). In reality, the presence of this law has not been accepted by those involved in broadcast media and has resulted in the criticism of this law by such parties. Several questions have been raised by these criticisms, mainly: What direction does the formulation of Law No.32, 2002 lead? In response to this question the writer examines the passages of the Law qualitatively. This has lead to the discovery that the formulation of Law No. 32, 2002, is not conducive to the building of a healthy Indonesian democracy. The direction of the formulation of the rules governing broadcast media as laid out in Law No.32, 2002are believed to be incapable of being useful within a civil society. Because of this, the writer presents an alternative method for the formulation of the direction for appropriate communication. This is achieved through combining issues of the communication media in Indonesia by outlining the primary characteristics of the mass media, social media and interactive media from their respective positions.

Abstract

The position of the content creator team is very important for tribunjogja.com. They have a special position, so that the news manager just “relented” with their news. The question is, how does the tribunjogja.com content creator team place the idealism of journalists? To understand the idealism of the tribunjogja.com content creator team, this research uses a case study research method. Meanwhile, data collection was carried out using two data collection techniques, namely observation of news produced by the content creator team and in-depth interviews with M. Fathoni, editor of tribunjogja.com, who was not related to the content creator team and the leader of the tribunjogja.com content creator team, Mona. Kriesdinar. It turns out that the tribunjogja.com content creator team upholds their position as intellectuals. However, they are aware that tribunjogja.com cannot develop without positioning it as an economic institution. They make various adjustments. In that adjustment, they have a grip on the idealism of journalists: in line with the limits of reporting. From that adjustment was born reputation which raises the question for whom is the reputation.
