Abstract

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of oodev on the gonadal maturation and characteristic of spermatophore and spermatozoa produced by the wild male black tiger shrimp against eyestalk ablation. The treatments were two doses of oodev injection at 0.5 (OD0.5) and 1 (OD1.0) mL/kg of body weight and a control was eyestalk ablation (AB). The male stock of tiger shrimp used was from wild with body weight ranged from 55‒85 g, stocked into three of 10 tonnages concrete tanks with density of 25 males/tank. Oodev injection was applied for two times with one week interval. Tiger shrimp of OD0.5 group produced the highest number of gonadal maturing which was 84% followed by AB (68%) and OD1.0 (64%). Oodev injection was able to shorten the time required for spermatophore maturation at maturation phase which happened simultaneously within 7 days post injection compared to that of ablated males. Positive correlation (R2=0.612) was detected between the shrimp weight and weight of spermatophore of the tiger shrimp while correlation between spermatophore weight and number of spermatozoa was relatively low (R2=0.415). Total fatty acid tented to be higher in males injected with oodev compared to ablated males. Concentration of arachidonic acid in the muscle of male stock in OD1.0 group was extremely low of 0.0037% of total lipid compared to AB (0.3190%) and OD0.5 (0.2806%). Oodev injection at the dose of 0.5 mL/kg of tiger shrimp could improve the number of males stock producing spermatophore compared to eyestalk ablation. Simultaneously matured-spermatophore of wild male tiger shrimp within short time could be achieved through oodev injection.

Abstract

The physiological condition and reproductive performance of fish are strongly influenced by feed quality and nutritional supplementation. Yellow pumpkin seed flour (*TBLK*) contains various nutrients and bioactive compounds that potentially improve fish physiological responses, growth, and reproductive development. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the effect of TBLK supplementation in feed on the physiological responses of cakul wader fish, including the Hepatosomatic Index (HSI), Viscerosomatic Index (VSI), Gonad Maturity Index (GMI), and survival rate. This study employed an experimental method using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four treatments and three replications. The treatments consisted of commercial feed without supplementation (control), commercial feed supplemented with 2.5% TBLK, 5% TBLK, and 7.5% TBLK, each combined with 3% CMC as a binder. Fish with an average body weight of 4.9 ± 1.0 g were stocked at 25 fish per aquarium containing 25 L of water and reared for 40 days. Feeding was conducted twice daily using paste-form feed. The results showed that TBLK supplementation affected the physiological responses of cakul wader fish. The best performance was obtained at the 5% TBLK supplementation level, which produced the highest Gonad Maturity Index (0–5.81%) and survival rate (86.67%), while maintaining favorable HSI (1.29–1.93%) and VSI (2.44–3.93%) values. Lower survival rates were observed in the 2.5% (68%) and 7.5% (66.67%) treatments. In conclusion, supplementation of 5% TBLK in feed was the optimal dose for improving physiological condition, gonad maturation, and survival rate of cakul wader fish

Abstract

The reproductive performance of giant freshwater prawn (Macrobrachium rosenbergii) is an important factor determining the success of aquaculture production. One approach to accelerate gonad maturation is through nutritional supplementation using natural ingredients rich in vitamin E, such as moringa leaf (Moringa oleifera) extract. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of moringa leaf extract supplementation in feed on gonad maturation and survival rate of giant freshwater prawn broodstock. The study employed an experimental method using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four treatments and three replications. The treatments consisted of different doses of moringa leaf extract in feed, namely 0 mg/kg feed (control), 134 mg/kg feed, 268 mg/kg feed, and 402 mg/kg feed. Broodstock were maintained in aquaria and fed twice daily using the ad satiation method. Observed parameters included gonad maturation level, survival rate, and water quality. The results showed that supplementation of moringa leaf extract influenced gonad maturation of giant freshwater prawn broodstock. The highest gonad maturation percentage was observed in the treatment of 402 mg/kg feed, reaching 30%, while treatments of 134 mg/kg and 268 mg/kg feed each resulted in 10% gonad maturation. No gonad maturation was observed in the control treatment. The highest survival rate was obtained in the control and 134 mg/kg feed treatments (60%), followed by 268 mg/kg feed (50%) and 402 mg/kg feed (40%). Water quality parameters during the study remained within suitable ranges for prawn culture. In conclusion, supplementation of moringa leaf extract at a dose of 402 mg/kg feed was effective in accelerating gonad maturation of giant freshwater prawn broodstock.
