Abstract

The increasing number of coffee shops in Bandung is an impact of today’s lifestyle of youth.Entrepreneurs see their lifestyle as business opportunities. As its consequences, many former residential buildings in colonial era have shifted into coffee shops. The competition is so tight that each coffeeshop tried every way possible to attract the customers, especially by offering a pleasant atmosphere through modern-style interior design favored by the youth. Such exploration of style in architectural design may become a threat to the city’s local identity, especially to heritage buildings. Therefore, the study of applying local identity in  typology of houses that had been transformed into coffeeshops is urgently required to preserve local values. It uses qualitative method through purposive sampling on two popular coffeeshops in Bandung, namely Mimiti Coffee and Space and One Eighty Coffee and Music. The result shows that the conversion of coffeeshops in Bandung still follow the latest style by applying tropical architecture that helps to preserve local identity in the contemporary design era. Keywords: Local Identity, Colonial Architecture, Design Approach, Coffeeshop Design________________________________________________________________ Pertumbuhan kedai kopi di Bandung meningkat pesat sebagai dampak dari gaya hidup generasi muda masa kini.

The Antonio Blanco’s hotel design by Balinese base architect Yoka Sara been design to represent the extension of Antonio Blanco’s museum in Ubud Bali. Although this design only achieves in a preliminary stage, the design approach in which Yoka Sara offer to interpret the style of Balinese contemporary, reflect the idea of Cosmogenic Architecture by Charles Jencks. In his book “Architecture of The Jumping Universe”  Jencks stated about how in the postmodern era, the architect should have the freedom to use architecture as a language. The nature of architecture has been identified with a definition of the universe through contemporary sciences. This paper tries to reveal the cosmogenic value in Antonio Blanco’s hotel approach by analogizing the architectural vocabulary into the linguistic system as Jencks mention in his book “The Language of Postmodern Architecture”. Abstract

AbstractThe increasing number of millennial travelers has affected the growth of backpacker accommodations in Bandung, especially those which are built in a form of capsules. Located at the city center of Bandung, “Inap at Capsule Hostel” has many facilities, all of which are installed inside the capsules and make the design compact. Although all of those facilities are dimensionally accommodated, the anthropometric comfort of the capsule is still questionable since there are spaces required for body movements. With combining the qualitative method through experiencing the capsule’s interior directly and the quantitative method through analyzing reviews from booking websites with the instrument word cloud text analysis, it is found that the compact design of Inap at Capsule Hostel still represents the anthropometric comfort regardless its limited dimension. Nevertheless, rearrangement of some lighting facilities and materials inside the capsules is suggested to improve the quality of the spatial comfort.

Abstract

Karya arsitek Bali, Yoka Sara, berusaha mengedepankan filosofi ruang berbasis pengetahuan lokal.

Abstract

Background: The storytelling and narrative approaches surpassed the study of the interior and cinematic by the idea of staging. In film production, the use of interior elements to aid storytelling is called interior mise-en-scene. However, more research still needs to be done on how spatial metaphors in the interior mise-en-scene are explored. The spatial metaphor is central to creating atmosphere and setting based on film narratives. Therefore, this article examines a spatial metaphor in the horror film mise-en-scene, focusing on monstrous maternity. The case studies are the film ‘A Mother’s love’ (Joko Anwar, Indonesia) and ‘Jendela’ (M. Subash Abdullah, Malaysia). Both films portray the woman protagonist as a psychotic character who haunts their own house. Purpose: The article aims to find spatial metaphors to represent the idea of monstrous maternal as a horror motif. Methods: Through qualitative and literature review, the element of the interior mise-en-scene and abjection theory has been analyzed to find meaning in spatial language. Results: As a result, the spatial metaphor in the film portrays the idea of topo analysis- the topography of the intimate being in the house. Many spaces are composed in dream scene situation, and the use of liminal space become central to supernatural narratives. A distorted play camera frames the space, engaging the audience to enter the character’s mind. Implications: This research contributes to how spatial metaphor in film can aid storytelling in interior design. The interior mise-en-scene helps the designer translate the narrative’s text into a spatial dimension through the staging technique.
