Since English has become international language, Indonesian people prefer to mix their language using Indonesian and English rather than Indonesian and their mother tongue language. Indonesian comics are also showing this phenomenon. One of Indonesian comics which uses code-mixing in its dialogues is Alice by Angellina. Most of the dialogues in Alice use Indonesian-English code-mixing, besides the characters’ names are also use Western names, instead of Indonesian names. The study focused on determining the types of code mixing: insertions, alternations, congruent lexicalizations (dialect) and the forms of words in the process of word-formation (such as noun, verb, adjective, phrase, and sentences). The tendency in using the code mixing is because some words have been used so often in the people’s daily conversation in showing the emotions and sense.

Abstract

Instagram is an application that lets users take photos and videos then share them on various social media. They also can put representative comments in those photos and videos. One interesting thing about the Instagram users' comments is they always update the new vocabulary developed in cyberspace which is then applied in the real world. In Indonesia, Instagram users also do the same, therefore many new vocabularies emerge and are used, for example, tercyduk, ngakak online, salfok, baper, etc. This research aims to find out the types of those new vocabularies based on their category and meaning, and also the use of those vocabularies. The semantic approach is used in analyzing the words because this approach focuses on finding the meaning of a word or a phrase. Therefore, after knowing the meaning, it will be easier to find out the use of each word or phrase

Abstract

Learning is a process from knowing nothing to knowing more and it can be done by ourselves or teachers. However, normally learning with a teacher is done face-to-face, but due to the pandemic, much of the learning was changed to online. Online learning is done virtually, usually using media as a learning platform; the media used for online learning is Zoom and Microsoft Teams. This article aims to discover Student's Preference Between Zoom and Microsoft Teams as The Media for Online Learning and their reasons for choosing the media. In addition, this research was conducted using a quantitative method; the researchers distributed a Google form to students, which contained several questions they had to answer related to the Zoom platform and Microsoft Teams as a medium for online learning. They also had to tell the reasons they chose the media. The result of this research is divided into two categories: completeness of features and convenience of use. Zoom and Microsoft Teams have some of the same features and also have their advantages and disadvantage. Most students choose Microsoft Teams because of the complete features, but they mostly choose Zoom for convenience. From the results obtained, it is hoped that in the future, people who read this paper will find it easier to choose what platforms they will use for online learning and choose the right media. It is hoped that it can increase the enthusiasm of students to learn.

Abstract

Speaking English plays a fundamental role in personal development of students. However, many students struggle when speaking, which limits their capacity to communicate effectively and self-assuredly in a foreign language. The goal of this study is to investigate the elements influencing these difficulties in students' speaking abilities. To effectively design measures to improve kids' speaking abilities, educators and policymakers must have a thorough understanding of these challenges. This research also offers techniques to improve students' speaking abilities. This research used the qualitative research methodology. The data was gathered through observation, documentation, and interviews.  The findings demonstrate that the factors that influence the students’ difficulties are anxiety, low self-confidence, limited vocabulary, poor pronunciation, and grammar challenges. The strategies to enhancing the students’ speaking performance are building a supportive learning environment, improving vocabulary, using technology, and giving feedback to the students’ speaking performance. Thus, students and lecturers can contribute to create the strategies to enhance students’ speaking performance.

Abstract

The Merdeka curriculum serves as a mechanism for enhancing the quality of education in Indonesia. Effective utilization of professional competence among educators can expedite the success of the Merdeka curriculum. However, the challenges associated with the Merdeka curriculum, as encountered by educators, are multifaceted and demand a high level of professionalism for resolution. This study aims to scrutinize teachers' professional competence concerning the design of learning activities within the Merdeka curriculum. It constitutes a quantitative descriptive study involving 205 primary school teachers from Indonesia. A semantic differential scale, administered through a Google Form, was employed to gather data on professional competence, comprising three indicators and 12 questions. The validity of the instrument was assessed using Pearson correlation, and reliability was determined using Cronbach's alpha. This investigation encompassed a series of cluster analysis procedures. The research has yielded significant insights into the professional competence of teachers during the implementation of the Merdeka curriculum in Indonesia. The categorization of teachers' professional competence reveals a prevalence of moderate to high competence, with a minority exhibiting low competence. These findings underscore the necessity for attention from governmental bodies and other stakeholders. Prioritizing training and sustainable professional development through collaborative learning communities emerges as imperative. Areas identified for enhancement encompass an understanding of student characteristics and pedagogical methodologies, mastery of learning content, and proficiency in curriculum development and implementation.

Abstract
