Abstract

This paper introduces an optimal control problem in a two-strain SIR epidemic model with viral mutation and vaccine administration. The purpose of this study was to investigate the efficacy and cost-effectiveness of two disease prevention strategies, namely restriction of community mobility to prevent disease transmission and vaccine intervention. We consider the time-dependent control case, and we use Pontryagin’s Maximum Principle to derive necessary conditions for the optimal control of the disease. We also calculate the Average Cost-Effectiveness Ratio (ACER) and the Incremental Cost-Effectiveness Ratio (ICER) to investigate the cost-effectiveness of all possible strategies of the control measures. The results of this study indicate that the most cost-effective disease control strategy is a combination of mobility restriction and vaccination.

Abstract

Due to low levels of student engagement during the COVID-19 pandemic, elementary school students suffered significant learning losses, which served as the driving force behind this research. Teachers should be the key to solving problems. This research aims to measure how much influence the competence of professional elementary school teachers has on student engagement in Indonesia. This research uses a quantitative approach with a correlational design and survey method. Data collection was carried out through teacher professional competency and student involvement questionnaires, with data sources coming from elementary school teachers and students in the western, eastern, and central regions of Indonesia. Samples were taken using the cluster random sampling technique. Quantitative data analysis was used with descriptive statistical stages, correlation analysis, regression analysis, and comparative analysis. The results of the hypothesis test also show that professional competence in the aspect of understanding content and understanding the curriculum has a significant influence on student engagement, while in the aspect of understanding student character, it does not have a significant influence. These results make an important contribution to teachers' ongoing professional development. Aspects of content development and curriculum development are recommended as priorities for self-development.

Abstract

Sidomulyo Village in Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta, holds untapped potential in its rich biodiversity, particularly for economic empowerment among women, who comprise 53% of the population. The Women Skills Academy (WSA) were established with the aim of facilitating women's empowerment in Sidomulyo Village. In a previous program, training on ecoprint creation was conducted but several challenges were identified. These included limited diversity in ecoprint materials and designs, which restricted the ability to highlight the unique local identity of Sidomulyo Village. Furthermore, participation was predominantly limited to members of the Kelompok Wanita Tani (KWT), emphasizing the need to engage a wider spectrum of Women Skills Academy (WSA) members. To address these issues, the current program focuses on enhancing ecoprint techniques while incorporating e-commerce training. This integrated approach aims to empower participants with the skills needed to achieve economic independence and better represent the cultural richness of the village. The program included socialization, preparation, training, mentoring, and evaluation stages. The participants, guided by the community service team, significantly improved their knowledge and skills in both ecoprint production and online marketing, as shown by pre- and post-training evaluations. Participants successfully created ecoprint products using natural resources and learned to market these products via e-commerce platforms. Despite these achievements, challenges remain in diversifying materials, enhancing design uniqueness, and fully utilizing digital marketing. This program underscores the importance of leveraging local resources and providing continuous support to develop innovative, eco-friendly products that contribute to sustainable economic growth in rural communities.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic had an impact on the joints of socio-economic life, especially in fulfilling the basic needs. It also caused the declining of global food security, especially in Indonesia. This study aims to develop regional mapping to determine food security priorities and to achieve equal distribution of food security throughout Indonesia. The research method used in this research is quantitative research with the Elbow method. The Elbow method is used to find the optimal cluster size. The data used are from the Food Security Agency of the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture and Central Statistics Agency in a range of 2020 to 2021. In the process to identify priority areas in Indonesia, it is necessary to have provincial clustering. It is also necessary to minimize food budget allocations that are not well-targeted, causing losses, and not achieving an equal distribution of food security programs. Looking from a more visionary perspective, the success of clustering provides an opportunity for the government to focus more on allocating budget, resources, and time according to the results of the clustering. Based on the results of the provincial clustering, two clusters were obtained, namely provinces with high food security (Cluster 1) and low food security (Cluster 2). Cluster 1 has lower constituent components than Cluster 2.

Abstract

Dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) is an infection caused by the dengue virus which is transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito. In this paper, a model of the spread of dengue disease is developed using optimal control theory by dividing the population into Susceptible, Exposed, Infected, and Recovered (SEIR) sub-populations. The Pontryagin minimum principle of the fourth-order Runge-Kutta method is used in the model of the spread of dengue disease by incorporating control factors in the form of education and vaccination of susceptible human populations, as well as treatment of infected human populations. Optimum control aims to minimize the infected human population in order to reduce the spread of DHF. Simulations were carried out for two cases, namely when the basic reproduction number is less than one for disease-free conditions and greater than one for endemic conditions. Based on numerical simulations of the SEIR epidemic model with controls, it results that the optimal strategy is achieved if education controls, vaccinations, and medication are used.

Abstract

Water resilience is still big problem in Indonesia.  In border and underdeveloped areas in Indonesia, the use of water sources is still considered not resilience. Especially in military context, where water needs are bigger and also more fundamental, this water resilience problem demanding a comprehensive solution. To address this issue, this research proposes the use of ordinary differential equations as a mathematical tool to model the dynamics of system damage over time, consumption, maintenance scheme, water crisis scheme, and other factors affecting water distribution resilience in military facilities. This journal presents a conceptual model of failure risk management water distribution system using a differential equation model approach to support water resilience. Specifically, the derivation of failure equation in the “reliability and maintenance system technical” textbook will be the basic reference for generating mathematical model. It is used because our model will be focused in improving failure risk management. By using the model, there are a lot of problem will be tackled such as Identify and manage failure risks in the water supply system, design an efficient water distribution maintenance scheme, and predict how strong the system to face water crisis. But before the model applied, the prediction of model will be tested by applying it in form of computer program. The case study of this research will be focused in testing the model in form of computer program with some simplicity and assumption. Through this approach, it is expected to find solutions that improve water usage efficiency, support the well-being of military personnel, and contribute to national water resilience to bolster national defense especially in case of water crisis happened. This research holds significant benefits for scientific advancement by providing a conceptual model that can serve as a reference for future research. It has the potential to make a tangible contribution but also still need so much development especially for application in real data, adding others variables that can be included for next research, conducting the interpretation, and better defining the measurement boundaries.

Abstract

Time series data represents measurements taken over a specific period and is often employed for forecasting purposes. The typical approach in forecasting involves the analysis of relationships among estimated variables. In this study, we apply Fuzzy Time Series (FTS) to water level data collected every 10 minutes at the Irish Achill Island Observation Station. The FTS, which is based on Fuzzy C-Means (FCM), is hybridized with the Cat and Mouse Based Optimizer (CMBO). This hybridization of FCM with the CMBO optimizer aims to address weaknesses inherent in FTS, particularly concerning the determination of interval lengths, with the ultimate goal of enhancing prediction accuracy. Before conducting forecasts, we execute the FCM-CMBO process to determine the optimal centroid used for defining interval lengths within the FTS framework. Our study utilizes a dataset comprising 52,562 data points, obtained from the official Kaggle website. Subsequently, we assess forecasting accuracy using the Mean Absolute Percent Error (MAPE), where a smaller percentage indicates superior performance. Our proposed methodology effectively mitigates the limitations associated with interval length determination and significantly improves forecasting accuracy. Specifically, the MAPE percentage for FTS-FCM before optimization is 20.180%, while that of FCM-CMBO is notably lower at 18.265%. These results highlight the superior performance of the FCM-CMBO hybrid approach, which achieves a forecasting accuracy of 81.735% when compared to actual data.
