Abstract

Orphans often face limitations in acquiring life skills, social values, and independence because they do not grow up in a complete family environment. This condition raises questions about how effectively orphanages can function as social institutions in preparing children to live independently in society. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of implementing a life skills program for orphans at the Harapan Jitra Orphanage in Bengkulu City from a sociological perspective, particularly in terms of socialization, value internalization, and children's social integration. The research employed a qualitative, descriptive approach. Data were collected through participant observation and in-depth interviews with the orphanage's head, caregivers, foster children, and alumni, as well as through document analysis to strengthen empirical findings. Data were analyzed through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results show that the life skills program at Harapan Jitra Orphanage is quite effective in fostering children's independence both socially and functionally. Through routine daily activities, vocational training, productive work, and spiritual guidance, the orphanage serves as a secondary socialization agent, replacing the family's role in instilling discipline, responsibility, cooperation, and a work ethic. Children not only gain basic and vocational skills but also experience positive changes in attitudes, social identity, and adaptive abilities in broader society. Based on Talcott Parsons' AGIL framework, the program fulfills adaptation, goal attainment, integration, and latency functions. Nevertheless, effectiveness is constrained by limited funding, professional staff, and training facilities. Overall, the program contributes to preparing orphans to be independent and socially integrated individuals.

Abstract

Fear Of Missing Out(FoMO) is a social phenomenon that reflects an individual's concern about the possibility of being left behind by various information, activities, or trends developing in their environment. The aim of this study is to analyze the factors that influence this.fear of missing out(FoMO) among Generation Z in Bengkulu City. The research approach used was quantitative, with data collected through a questionnaire (Google Form) distributed via social media. The research sample consisted of 385 respondents aged 13-29 who actively use TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp. The sample was determined using the Krejcie and Morgan formula. Data analysis was conducted through multiple regression, T-test, F-test, and coefficient of determination (R2).2). The results of the study showed that simultaneously, family, peer, social media use, age, and gender factors had a significant effect on FoMO with a calculated F value > F table (208.642 > 2.24) and a significance of 0.001. Partially, family, peer, and social media use factors had a significant effect, while age and gender did not have a significant effect. The coefficient of determination test showed that 73.4% of the variation in FoMO could be explained by the research variables, while 26.6% was influenced by other factors outside the model. This finding confirms that the social environment and intensity of social media use are dominant factors in the formation of FoMO in Generation Z, especially in Bengkulu City. Therefore, digital literacy and social support from family and peers are needed to reduce the negative impacts caused by dependence on social media.

Abstract

This study aims to understand how Generation Z in Bengkulu City interprets tourism activities as part of constructing their existence and identity in the digital space. This study uses a qualitative approach with a phenomenological design to explore the subjective experiences of informants in depth. The results show that Generation Z's tourism experience is not interpreted solely as a recreational activity, but as a multidimensional experience encompassing emotional needs for healing, strengthening social relations through togetherness, and the need for self-expression and recognition in the digital space. Exposure to visual content on social media acts as an initial stimulus that shapes destination interests and preferences, which are then subjectively processed based on the individual's emotional state and social needs before resulting in a travel decision. Documentation and content upload activities are an integral part of the tourism experience, as through this process informants receive social responses and validation.

Abstract

This study examines culinary behavior among Generation Z in Bengkulu City by analyzing its associations with price perception, taste, restaurant location, social factors, and healthy lifestyle orientation. Employing an associative quantitative design, data were collected from 384 respondents selected through purposive sampling. The analysis was conducted using multiple linear regression. The findings indicate positive associations between culinary behavior and the examined predictors, with restaurant location and social factors showing the strongest standardized contributions in the model. Price perception and taste also demonstrate meaningful associations, suggesting that economic evaluation and sensory satisfaction remain central considerations in culinary decision making. Healthy lifestyle orientation shows a smaller association; however, because the regression diagnostics indicate heteroscedasticity related to this predictor, statistical inferences for this variable should be interpreted cautiously. These results suggest that culinary consumption among the surveyed Generation Z respondents represents a socially embedded practice shaped by the interaction of practical, experiential, spatial, and social dimensions. The coexistence of fast food and traditional cuisine preferences further reflects the adaptive and hybrid nature of Generation Z consumption patterns in a mid-sized urban context. Because purposive sampling was used, the findings are not intended for probabilistic generalization to all Generation Z residents in Bengkulu City.

ABSTRACT Social awareness is understood as the knowledge, concern, and responsibility of parents in fulfilling balanced nutrition for their children’s growth. This study aims to analyze the social awareness of PKK (Family Welfare Empowerment) members regarding the fulfillment of children's nutrition in Malabero Village. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through interviews, observation, documentation, and focus group discussions using purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using Berger and Luckmann’s theory of social construction. The analysis process consisted of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings show that parents’ level of social awareness varies. In terms of understanding, some parents still rely on the traditional concept of “Four Healthy Five Perfect,” while others have adopted the balanced nutrition guideline. In terms of attitudes, some parents show concern by providing nutritious meals even with limited resources, while others are more permissive toward instant or processed foods. In practice, some families implement healthy eating patterns, while others prioritize fullness over nutritional quality. These differences are influenced by economic conditions and educational background. PKK plays a significant role as a forum for exchanging information and fostering social empathy. Based on Berger and Luckmann’s Social Construction Theory, nutritional awareness is shaped through three processes. First, externalization, where individuals express their understanding of social reality based on subjective interpretation. Second, objectivation, where shared interactions in the intersubjective world become institutionalized or routinized. Third, internalization, where individuals adopt and interpret objective realities as personal meaning. Thus, parents’ social awareness of children’s nutrition is a socially constructed reality that continues to develop alongside increasing knowledge and participation in PKK activities. Keywords: Children, Nutrition, Social Interaction, Social Awareness, Parents, PKK, Malabero.
