Abstract

Abstract

Improving the quality of traditional farmers on a technical, social and economic scale, is strongly influenced and determined by the capacity to carry out pond business activities related to managerial patterns and work relationships that are formed.  This research was conducted in October – December 2021. Milkfish (Chanos-chanos) aquaculture business in Bonto Manai Village was chosen as the case, because the aquaculture system managed by the community is dominated the traditional aquaculture system. The purpose of this research is to analyze the knowledge of traditional aquaculture as a technical practice in managing aquaculture businesses, as well as to analyze the work relations of traditional aquaculture businesses which are internalized in the local culture of the community. The methodology used is a case research method with a descriptive qualitative data analysis approach described in the life history of the informants. The results showed that traditional farmers in milkfish (Chanos-chanos) aquaculture in Bonto Manai Village have acquired knowledge gained through experience passed down from generation to generation, starting from the construction and management of pond subgrade, seed stocking, rearing, harvest and post-harvest. Accompanied by rituals based on belief as a traditional value. The managerial pattern and work relations in the management of traditional pond business have three types of management, namely; aquaculture business which is self managed by the owner of the aquaculture land with involving two to three workers, aquaculture business which is managed based on a leasing system, and aquaculture business which is managed by a rapture system. Abstract

The chicken head is one of the by-products with a high protein content. Therefore, chicken heads can be used as raw materials to produce protein hydrolysates containing bioactive peptides that have biological activities, such as antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant activities. This research aimed to evaluate the use of the combined ratio of papain and bromelain enzymes to produce chicken head protein hydrolysate that has antibacterial activity. The research method used in this study was a laboratory experiment using a completely randomized design (CRD) with four treatments and five replications. Statistical significance was done using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by Duncan’s multiple range test (DMRT). The inhibition zones of chicken head protein hydrolysate using a combination of papain enzymes against Lactobacillus casei, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Salmonella typhimurium were 1.72-2.68, 1.19-4.47, 0.93-1.45, 1.64-2.46, and 1.01-3.62 mm, respectively. The result showed that the highest antibacterial activities against Lactobacillus casei, Escherichia coli, and Staphylococcus aureus were in A1 (hydrolysis using papain 75% and bromelain 25%), the highest antibacterial activities against Pseudomonas aeruginosa was in A3 (hydrolysis using papain 25% and bromelain 75%), and the highest antibacterial activity against Salmonella typhimurium was in A2 (hydrolysis using papain 50% and bromelain 50%). However, all the hydrolysate didn’t exhibit antibacterial activity against Bacillus subtilis. Chicken head protein hydrolysate had the potential to be an antibacterial agent against pathogenic bacteria.

Abstract

Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) have emerged as critical frameworks for enhancing teacher professional development and improving educational quality. However, implementation challenges persist, particularly in remote geographical contexts where principals must navigate complex barriers to foster collaborative professional cultures. This qualitative study employed an exploratory case study design across three junior secondary schools in Merauke Regency, Papua Selatan, Indonesia. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with six participants (three principals and three teachers), document analysis, and direct observations. Data analysis followed Miles, Huberman, and Saldana's three-stage approach, with triangulation ensuring credibility. Three primary themes emerged: principal conceptualizations of PLCs as multifunctional collaborative platforms, implementation challenges including geographic barriers (primary obstacle), limited understanding, senior teacher resistance, technology constraints, and role multiplicity, and strategic responses encompassing flexible scheduling, personalized engagement, senior teacher valorization, technology training, and workload management. Geographic barriers significantly impacted teacher participation due to extensive commuting distances, while principals successfully employed adaptive strategies to overcome contextual obstacles. The findings demonstrate that effective PLC development requires adaptive leadership integrating transformational, situational, and inclusive approaches. The study extends educational leadership theory by highlighting culturally specific PLC dimensions and challenging universal implementation models. Results provide evidence-based strategies for developing PLCs in resource-constrained environments, emphasizing relationship-building and contextual responsiveness over rigid program adherence.

Abstract

The overuse and continuous administration of antibiotics have led to the emergence of resistance, posing challenges in eradicating pathogenic bacteria in poultry digestive tracts. This concern has prompted breeders to seek alternatives, such as turmeric. Turmeric, known for its ability to combat disease-causing microorganisms in the digestive tract and improve livestock performance, is one such herb. This study aimed to assess the impact of fermented turmeric on the phytobiotic content and production performance of laying hens. In the initial phase, turmeric underwent anaerobic fermentation at room temperature for seven days, followed by analysis of curcuminoids and flavonoids. An in vivo study was subsequently conducted with 120 laying hens aged 50 weeks divided into five experimental groups: P0 (basal feed without fermented liquid turmeric) and T1--T4 (basal feed supplemented with fermented liquid turmeric). The results revealed a significant decrease in the curcumin and flavonoid contents after fermentation. Feed consumption increased significantly (P<0.05) but had no significant effect (P>0.05) on hen-day production, egg mass, FCR, or IOFC. numcially decreased FCR values. This study demonstrated that incorporating liquid turmeric into basal feed enhanced production performance while reducing FCR in laying hens. The effect of fermented liquid turmeric on feed consumption was sixty-four percent, and the feed conversion ratio was twenty-four percent. These findings suggest that fermented turmeric can effectively serve as a feed additive in poultry production systems, offering a natural alternative and potentially contributing to sustainable and healthy poultry farming practices
