Abstract

Abstract

Abstract This study aims to describe the ability to solve mathematical problems in terms of the self-confidence of class VIII students at MTs Assalam Mataram. This type of descriptive qualitative research chose 3 research subjects from 22 class VIII students who had high self-confidence, moderate self-confidence, and low self-confidence categories. Data were collected using a self-confidence questionnaire instrument, tests of mathematical problem-solving abilities in circle material, and interviews. Data analysis techniques are carried out by collecting data, presenting data, condensing data, drawing conclusions, and verifying. And checking the validity of the data using credibility, technical triangulation, transferability, dependability, and confirmability. The results of the study were that the high self-confidence category of students was 2.30%, for the test of mathematical problem-solving abilities with high criteria it showed that in general, they were able to fulfill all problem-solving indicators, the medium self-confidence category was 59.6%, for the problem-solving ability test the mathematical criteria were moderate, indicating that they were only able to meet three indicators of problem-solving ability, and the low self-confidence category was 38.1%, for the mathematical problem-solving ability test, the problem-solving ability only met one indicator.

Abstract

This research aims to describe mathematical problem solving abilities in terms of students' gender. This research uses a qualitative approach, a type of descriptive qualitative research. This research was carried out at MTs Manba'ul 'Ulum Dasan Ketujur. The subjects in this research were 6 students out of 40 students in class VII, 3 male subjects and 3 female subjects. The instruments used were a mathematical problem solving ability test and an interview guide. The results of the research are students' mathematical problem solving using polya steps and problem solving levels according to the Vermont Department of Education in terms of gender are: (1) male subjects in the high category meet 3 indicators; (2) female subjects in the high category meet 4 indicators; (3) male subjects in the medium category meet 2 indicators; (4) female subjects in the medium category meet 3 indicators; (5) male subjects in the low category fulfill 1 indicator; (6) female subjects in the low category fulfill 2 indicators.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the concept of mathematics, cultural values contained in the Sasak tribe's bekel game, and find out how the bekel game can be used in learning mathematics. This research uses a qualitative approach with the type of case study, data collection techniques through observation, interview guidelines, documentation, and questionnaires. The subjects in this study were MTs students who played bekel. The results showed that there are mathematical concepts in the game such as the concept of chance, building space in the form of a ball, and there are cultural values in the game such as the value of fun, the value of honesty, the value of democracy, and the value of aesthetics.

Abstract

This study examined the effectiveness of STEM-based learning integrated with the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) approach in enhancing eighth-grade students’ relational mathematical understanding at SMP Negeri 1 Batukliang during the 2025/2026 academic year. A quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method employing a pretest–posttest control group design was used. The population comprised all eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Batukliang (206 students). Using purposive sampling, two classes were selected: Class VIII3 as the control group and Class VIII4 as the experimental group, involving a total of 56 students. Data were collected through an essay-type test measuring relational mathematical understanding, administered at the pretest and posttest stages. Data analysis employed descriptive and inferential statistics using SPSS version 27, including normality and homogeneity tests, N-Gain analysis, and an Independent Samples t-test. The results showed that the average N-Gain score of the experimental class was 0.4906 (moderate category), which was higher than that of the control class at 0.2889 (low category). Furthermore, the t-test revealed a significance value of 0.000 (< 0.05). These findings indicate that STEM-based learning integrated with the PjBL approach is effective in improving students’ relational mathematical understanding.
