Abstract

Stunting is a growth and development disorder in children caused by a lack of nutritional intake in the first 1000 days of life (HPK). It is a national issue requiring special attention from the government because stunting can hinder human resource potential and is linked to the health level of an area. Therefore, preventing stunting becomes a shared responsibility, with Posyandu cadres, as community representatives, playing an important role in implementing effective interventions to reduce stunting rates. This activity aims to broaden the insight of Posyandu cadres. Through this effort, it is hoped that Posyandu services will improve, leading to a reduction in stunting rates. The activity utilized the lecture and question-and-answer method. As a result, the average knowledge of Posyandu cadres increased from 42% to 100%.

Abstract

The breastfeeding rate in Indonesia is 15.3%. Exclusive breastfeeding coverage in Central Sulawesi in 2021 was 53.5% and in Poso Regency was 51.1%. Exclusive breastfeeding coverage in Pinedapa Village, Poso Coastal District in 2022 was 57%. One of the causes of low breastfeeding rates in Indonesia is the lack of knowledge among pregnant women, families, and the community about the importance of breastfeeding. The most common problem experienced by breastfeeding mothers is sore nipples. This condition usually occurs due to incorrect baby positioning during breastfeeding or incorrect breastfeeding techniques. The purpose of this activity was to improve the knowledge and skills of pregnant women and health cadres on the correct breastfeeding techniques to meet the nutritional needs of infants and thus prevent stunting. The methods used in this community service activity were lectures, discussions, and demonstrations. The results obtained from this activity were that the knowledge of pregnant women and posyandu cadres after the counseling increased to good (100%). The skills of pregnant women and cadres after the training increased from unskilled (0%) to skilled (100%).

Abstract

A prevalent experience among pregnant women is discomfort. Acupressure, a cornerstone of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), seeks to harmonize the body's energy flow through meridian points postulated to be interconnected with internal organs. This community outreach initiative sought to augment the capabilities of pregnant women and caregivers of infants/toddlers in self-acupressure and neonatal/infant acupressure within Lantojaya Village, Poso Pesisir District, Poso Regency. The methodology encompassed lectures, interactive question-and-answer sessions, discussions, and practical demonstrations. The outcomes revealed a discernible shift in participants' knowledge concerning acupressure principles and their proficiency in applying acupressure to specific part of body.

Abstract

Stunting is a national health issue with significant implications for the quality of future generations, making it a priority for the government at both central and local levels. This community service program aimed to enhance the knowledge and skills of mothers with children under two years old (infants) and posyandu cadres in Lembomawo Village, Poso Kota Selatan Subdistrict, on utilizing local food ingredients for supplementary feeding (PMT). Through counseling and cooking demonstrations, participants were introduced to three PMT recipes tailored to the food texture requirements of infants: 6–8 months (Bubur Singkong Kukuruyuk Saus Jeruk), 9–11 months (Nasi Tim Ikan Telur Sayuran), and 12–23 months (Tim Ikan Menado). Additionally, recipe books for local infant and maternal nutrition were distributed to mothers and posyandu cadres to serve as practical guidelines. The results of the program showed a significant increase in mothers' knowledge about the importance of supplementary feeding using local ingredients, from 23.6% prior to the intervention to 85.72% afterward. This program was conducted in collaboration with the Village Midwife and the Lembomawo Village Government, aiming to contribute to reducing stunting rates through sustainable utilization of local resources.

Abstract

Background:Purple sweet potato is a locally abundant ingredient in Banggai Regency, Central Sulawesi Province. However, many individuals, particularly mothers of toddlers, remain unaware of the nutritional benefits and the methods for processing sweet potatoes into complementary foods for breastfed infants. Objective:This study aims to examine the effect of assistance in preparing complementary foods (MP ASI) using locally sourced purple sweet potatoes on the incidence of stunting. Method:This research employs a quasi-experimental design with a pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest approach. The study involved 38 mothers of infants aged 7–12 months, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a validated questionnaire and analyzed using univariate and bivariate statistical methods. Results:The findings reveal a significant relationship between the introduction of complementary feeding (IMD) and exclusive breastfeeding on the incidence of stunting, with a p-value <0.05 (0.000). Additionally, there was a notable improvement in maternal knowledge and skills related to complementary feeding before and after the intervention (p < 0.05). The use of purple sweet potato as MP ASI was found to contribute to a reduction in the incidence of stunting (100%). Conclusion:The education and training provided on complementary feeding using locally available food ingredients, such as purple sweet potatoes, significantly enhanced the knowledge and skills of mothers with infants aged 7–12 months and effectively reduced the incidence of stunting.  Keywords:mentoring; purple sweet potato; knowledge; skills; MP ASI; stunting

Abstract

Introduction: Chronic energy deficiency (CED) in pregnant women is a significant public health concern in Indonesia, with a prevalence of 17.3% in 2018. This study aimed to analyze the implementation of stunting prevention in CED pregnant women by providing exclusive breastfeeding until the baby is 6 months old in Central Sulawesi Province. Methods: A quantitative analytical approach with a group pre-test–post-test design was employed. The study was conducted at the Kampung Baru Health Center, Luwuk Banggai Regency, and the Lambunu 2 Health Center, Parigi Moutong Regency, between May and August 2023. The sample consisted of 38 pregnant women with CED, selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires on maternal knowledge about nutrition for pregnant women and exclusive breastfeeding. The intervention included providing health education on nutrition and a balanced menu for pregnant women, exclusive breastfeeding, and recording the consumption of supplementary feeding (PMT) biscuits. Results: The results showed a significant increase in mothers' knowledge about nutrition for pregnant women and exclusive breastfeeding after the intervention (p<0.05). Additionally, there was a significant reduction in the incidence of CED after the intervention (p=0.000). Conclusions: The study concludes that providing assistance to pregnant women through health education and PMT biscuits can effectively reduce the incidence of CED and improve maternal knowledge about nutrition and exclusive breastfeeding. These findings highlight the importance of implementing comprehensive interventions to prevent stunting and improve maternal and child health outcomes in Indonesia.

Abstract

Developmental delays in under-five children are a global concern, with a prevalence of approximately 10% worldwide. In Central Sulawesi, the coverage of Early Stimulation, Detection, and Intervention for Growth and Development (SDIDTK) in toddlers remains low at 44.6%. Therefore, this community service activity aimed to enhance the knowledge and skills of posyandu cadres and mothers in Pinedapa Village in monitoring under-five children's development. The methods employed were education and simulation on monitoring child development. The results showed a significant increase in participants' knowledge; 80% of participants previously had poor knowledge, which increased to 100% having good knowledge post-education. Similarly, there was an improvement in participants' skills in monitoring under-five children's development after the simulation. This demonstrates the effectiveness of education and simulation in strengthening the capacity of partners, particularly concerning the monitoring of under-five children's development.

Abstract

The healthy life expectancy at birth in Indonesia was recorded at 3.8. This figure was influenced by the care provided during pregnancy, childbirth, and the neonatal period. The aim of this community service was to deliver optimal midwifery care to infants to enhance sleep quality, alleviate fussiness, boost appetite, and promote weight gain, ultimately improving the overall health status of the infants. The community service activity took place on Friday, November 10, 2023, in Lantojaya village, targeting infants aged 0 to 23 months. The procedures implemented included assessment, planning, action, and evaluation. Among the 12 infants who received baby massage, behavioral changes were observed before and after the intervention: full-body movements increased from 66.7% to 100%; visual attention improved in 91.7% of the infants; non-nutritive sucking rose by 25%; object-holding activity reached 100%; and self-touching behavior was noted in 91.7% of the infants. The conclusion drawn from this community service was that baby massage had a relaxing effect on infants. Therefore, it is recommended that families regularly perform baby massage, either independently or with assistance from healthcare professionals.
