Abstract

Conceptual and procedural errors are still frequently found among prospective mathematics teachers when solving mathematical problems. However, the questions commonly used to assess conceptual and procedural understanding tend to be routine in nature, which may not adequately reflect students’ mastery of the material. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the conceptual and procedural errors made by prospective mathematics teachers when solving a non-routine problem related to the topic of reflection. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach, involving 16 students from the Mathematics Education program at UIN Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar. The research instrument consisted of a single non-routine problem administered after the students had studied the topic of reflection. The results showed that 11 students were able to solve the problem correctly, while the remaining 5 made errors. The identified conceptual errors included a lack of understanding of the concepts of reflection and linear equations, as well as incorrect use of mathematical notation. Procedural errors involved computational mistakes and carelessness in forming equations. These findings indicate that strengthening students' conceptual and procedural understanding is still necessary before directing them toward developing higher-order thinking skills.

Abstract

This community service program aimed to enhance both the understanding and application of Higher-Order Thinking Skills (HOTs) in mathematics instruction for participating teachers. Employing a targeted professional development approach informed by the Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR) framework, the program equipped 21 mathematics teachers from Musyawarah Guru Mata Pelajaran (MGMP) in Aceh Tengah District, Indonesia, with the necessary knowledge and pedagogical strategies to foster and cultivate high-level thinking skills in their students. The program demonstrably improved teachers' knowledge, skills, and commitment towards implementing HOTs-oriented instruction. While areas like solving HOTs questions necessitate further attention, the overall results suggest success, paving the way for continued advancements in promoting deep-thinking and problem-solving skills in mathematics education. Analysis of the data reveals a positive impact of the program on teachers' understanding of HOTs. While areas such as problem-solving and critical thinking require further development, the program evidently achieved its goals of raising awareness, knowledge, and application skills related to HOTs. Building upon this foundation, future interventions can delve deeper into these advanced skills, further empowering teachers to cultivate critical thinking and problem-solving abilities in their students.

Abstract

This paper provides an overview of Televisi Edukasi, a Television program and channel developed by the Ministry of Education and Culture to provide learning support. Televisi Edukasi has been active for a long time in Indonesia that can reach remote and outer areas with the help of satellite transmitters. Has content for educational and teaching activities as well as information about the policies of the Ministry of Education and Culture. Televisi Edukasi content can be used as content or learning material in the classroom, for the deepening of learning material either done in class with the subject teacher, studying at home under the guidance of the teacher or independent student learning. The government utilizes Televisi Edukasi to support learning that took place during the Covid Pandemic 19 period. With the help of Relay from TVRI, students can watch learning shows that have been made by Televisi Edukasi. However, efforts need to be made to increase the utilization of Televisi Edukasi programs both during the Pandemic and post-pandemic periods, as in fact there are still many limitations that occur so that education has not been optimally utilized in Indonesia both in structured learning activities and also in student independent learning activities.
