Abstract

Problem solving is the main focus in learning mathematics at the primary and secondary school level. Prospective teachers must be prepared as well as possible as problem solvers and problem solving instructors. The purpose of this study was to describe the prospective teacher's ability to make a problem solving question based on category of good mathematical problem solving questions. The type of research used is descriptive qualitative.The research subjects were students of semester VI of the 2019/2020 academic year of the IAIN Takengon Mathematics Education Study Program. Based on the research results, it shows that the subjects in general already understood the theory of problem solving , but this understanding did not always directly proportional to the ability to make a mathematical problem solving question.

Abstract

Pandemi Covid-19 yang melanda di seluruh dunia turut menguncang dunia pendidikan. Pemerintah Indonesia memberlakukan kebijakan pembelajaran daring sebagai langkah antisipasi penyebaran virus tersebut  menjadi lebih luas. Namun Beberapa penelitian mengemukakan pembelajaran daring yang dilaksanakan kurang berjalan dengan maksimal. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan  penerapan pembelajaran tematik integratif berbasis saintifik di masa pandemi COVID-19 sebagai salah satu solusi dalam memaksimalkan  kegiatan pembelajaran daring tersebut.  Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif. Subjek penelitian adalah guru kelas 3 dan beberapa siswa kelas 3 SDIT Azzahra Takengon yang diambil dengan teknik purposive sampling. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan  menggunakan wawancara, observasi dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukan secara umum kegiatan pembelajaran tematik integratif  berbasis saintifik secara daring berjalan dengan baik pada tahap perencanaan maupun pelaksanaan. Beberapa kendala yang muncul yaitu siswa tidak terbiasa bertanya dan kurang berani mengkomunikasikan hasil kerjanya dihadapan guru dan siswa lain.

Abstract

Purpose of this study is to: to find out the objective conditions of local superiority in mathematics learning in elementary schools in Central Aceh Regency, to design mathematical learning models based on local superiority of class I students, and to find out student responses to local excellence based mathematics learning models in Central Aceh Regency. The subjects of this study were all 4th grade students of elementary school in Bebesen Central Aceh District. And the samples are SD 1 Bebesen, SDN 2 Bebesen, SDN 5 Bebesen, SDN 8 Bebesen, SDN 9 Bebesen, SD 10 Bebesen, SDN 10 Bebesen, SDN 11 Bebesen, SDN 12 Bebesen, SDN 14 Bebesen, SDN 16 Bebesen, SDN 16 Bebesen, SDN 17 Bebesen, SDN 17 Bebesen, SD IT Scholar. The research results were obtained that: (1) the objective conditions of mathematics learning of elementary students in Central Aceh Regency as follows. a) In the learning process the teacher has not linked mathematics with the local character and potential of the area. b) The mathematics handbook used today has not linked students' personal character. (2) During the learning process of mathematics based on local excellence and the potential character of antusius elementary school students to learn mathematics, the steps of the local superiority-based learning model are (a) the teacher conditions the class, starts with prayer by preparing facilities and infrastructure, doing Apperception of the local potential of central Aceh district b) Presenting contextual problems, Explicitly negotiating, Cooperative intervention, guiding students in groups to discuss contextual issues contained in the LAS. Give students the opportunity to present their model findings through class discussions. c) Guiding students to formulate the results of the discussion while making a summary of the material discussed, Providing material evaluations through giving quizzes or home assignments. The design of elementary school mathematics learning based on locally designed excellence received a good response from all students. 83.74% of students gave a positive response to the local excellence-based learning model. From these results it is expected that the mathematics learning model in the class must be tailored to the needs of students so that the objectives of the learning process can be achieved maximally.

Abstract

The aim of the research is to determine the level of students' argumentation ability to solve surface area and volume problems based on students' initial mathematical abilities. This research focused to discover new things that students do in solving problems based on the level of Toulmin argumentation ability. The methodology for taking subjects in this research was purposive, namely by categories of students with high, medium and low abilities, looking at the students' report cards. Students with a high level of initial argumentation can state claims, evidence and reasoning well but are less able to provide rebuttals. Students with a medium initial level of argumentation are only able to state claims and data well. Meanwhile, students with a low level of initial argumentation always make wrong claims and are not able to show evidence, reasoning and rebuttal to support their claims. High entry level students' argumentation abilities are at level 2 except for the rebuttal component, the rebuttal component is at level 0 where students tend to be unable to make counterclaims and unable to reject false statements. Students' argumentation abilities are not all students' initial argumentation abilities are at level 1, where students' ability to make claims and evidence is at level 2 while the ability to make rebuttals is at level 0. Students' initial argumentation abilities are low at level 0 where students are not able make claims, evidence, reasoning, and rebuttal well.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the errors made by students in solving HOTS type mathematics problems using the Newman Theory approach in Class X of SMA Negeri 1 Sibolga. The research method used in this study is a qualitative approach which aims to analyze students' errors in solving HOTS type mathematics problems using Newman Theory. Data collection was carried out through tests and interviews. A total of 12 students were selected who became interview subjects, where each student was interrogated regarding their performance in solving the given HOTS questions. Triangulation is used as a technique for checking the validity of the data. The research results show that students' errors in solving HOTS type mathematics problems can be classified into several categories, such as conceptual errors, errors in understanding the questions, and errors in choosing a solution strategy. In addition, factors such as lack of understanding of concepts, confusion in formulating resolution strategies, and time pressure also contribute to the occurrence of these errors.

Abstract

Mathematics is a crucial subject for students, yet teachers face unique challenges when effectively teaching it. The aim of this research was to identify the topics that were most challenging to be taught by junior high school mathematics teachers to students and the reasons why those topics were difficult to teach. A quantitative survey method was employed, involving 29 active junior high school mathematics teachers participating in the Musyawarah Guru Mata Pelajaran (MGMP) Matematika SMP activities in Aceh Tengah Regency, Indonesia. The research findings revealed that geometry was the most challenging topic for teachers to teach, followed by statistics as the second and third most challenging topics chosen by the respondents, while numbers were comparatively easier to teach than other topics. The most dominant factor that contributed to the difficulty of teaching a topic was the lack of adequate teaching aids, followed by teachers' struggles to meet the diverse needs of students and their search for effective teaching strategies. Conversely, teachers' personal preferences for a topic were found to have had the least impact on the difficulty of teaching it. This research provided insights into the challenges faced by mathematics educators and suggested potential areas for improvement in mathematics. education.Keywords: difficult topics; mathematics learning; teacher challenges; teaching challenges AbstrakMatematika adalah mata pelajaran yang sangat penting bagi siswa, namun disisi lain guru memiliki tantangan tersendiri dalam mengajarkannya. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengidentifikasi topik yang paling sulit diajarkan oleh guru matematika SMP kepada siswa dan penyebab topik tersebut sulit untuk diajarkan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif desain survei dengan jumlah responden 29 orang guru SMP yang aktif mengikuti kegiatan Musyawarah Guru Mata Pelajaran (MGMP) matematika di Kabupaten Aceh Tengah. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan angket yang disebarkan menggunakan google form. Hasil penelitian mengungkapkan bahwa geometri adalah topik tersulit pertama untuk diajarkan oleh guru, diikuti oleh statistika sebagai topik kedua dan ketiga yang dipilih responden, sedangkan bilangan adalah topik termudah untuk diajarkan dibandingkan topik yang lain. Sementara faktor yang paling dominan penyebab sulitnya sebuah topik untuk diajarkan adalah kurangnya alat peraga yang memadai, guru kesulitan memenuhi kebutuhan siswa yang beragam dan belum menemukan strategi yang tepat. sedangkan faktor yang paling tidak berdampak adalah ketidaksenangan guru terhadap sebuah topik.Kata Kunci: kesulitan guru; pe mbelajaran matematika; tantangan pengajaran; topik sulit DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/mtk/v11i4.pp261-273

Abstract

The aim of this research is to find out whether there is a significant difference in the data on students' understanding of mathematical concepts with problem-based adaptive learning and conventional learning carried out at SMA Negeri 1 Pantai Labu. Class X students (n=150) were involved as research subjects as a population. Types of pseudo-experimental research with a quantitative approach. This research sample was taken using a stratified random sampling technique. The sample was divided into two groups, namely the experimental group consisting of 30 students who studied with Problem-Based Adaptive Learning and the control group consisting of 30 students who studied with conventional learning. This research is semi-experimental and the instrument is a concept understanding test. Data processing techniques include normality tests, homogeneity tests and independent sample t-tests with the help of the IBM SPSS Statistics 30 and Microsoft Excel programs. Based on the results of descriptive statistical tests, it was found that the average score for problem-based adaptive learning was 84.47 (SD=3,910) , while the average score for conventional learning was 89.40 (SD=2,513).  The results of data analysis show that there is a significant difference between students who learn through problem-based adaptive learning and conventional learning, with a significance value of 0.12 > 0.05, which means H1 is accepted and H0 is rejected.  So there is an influence of problem-based adaptive learning on the understanding of mathematical concepts of Class X students at SMA Negeri 1 Pantai Labu in the 2024/2025 academic year.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui validitas perangkat pembelajaran matematika pada materi ajar Teorema Pythagoras berbasis GeoGebra di SMP Muhammadiyah 7 Medan. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah Research and Development yaitu dengan pengembangan perangkat pembelajaran matematika berbasis GeoGebra. Penelitian ini menggunakan model pengembangan 4-D (Define, Design, Development, dan Disseminate). Subjek uji coba dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VIII-2 SMP Muhammadiyah 7 Medan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perangkat pembelajaran berbasis GeoGebra valid, praktis, dan efektif dalam meningkatkan hasil belajar peserta didik pada materi Teorema Pythagoras. Penggunaan perangkat ini juga mampu meningkatkan pemahaman konsep matematika yang abstrak dan memperkuat keterampilan peserta didik dalam menyelesaikan masalah matematika. Dengan demikian, perangkat pembelajaran ini diharapkan dapat menjadi alternatif yang inovatif dalam proses pembelajaran matematika di sekolah.ABSTRACT This study aims to determine the validity of a mathematics learning device on the Pythagorean Theorem material based on GeoGebra at SMP Muhammadiyah 7 Medan. The research method used is Research and Development (R&D), which involves developing a mathematics learning device based on GeoGebra. The study utilizes the 4-D development model (Define, Design, Development, and Disseminate). The subjects of the trial are the eighth-grade students of class VIII-2 at SMP Muhammadiyah 7 Medan. The results indicate that the GeoGebra-based learning device is valid, practical, and effective in improving students' learning outcomes on the Pythagorean Theorem material. The use of this device also enhances the understanding of abstract mathematical concepts and strengthens students' skills in solving mathematical problems. Therefore, this learning device is expected to serve as an innovative alternative in the mathematics learning process at schools.

Abstract

Mathematical anxiety and self-concept are factors that influence students' mathematics learning outcomes. Therefore, this research aims to determine the influence of mathematical anxiety and self-concept on the mathematics learning outcomes of class VIII students at MTs Miftahul Ula partially and simultaneously—a type of ex post facto research with a quantitative approach. The population in this study consisted of all VIII class students at MTs Miftahul Ula for the 2023/2024 academic year, totaling 70 students consisting of 2 classes. The sampling technique is carried out using a saturated sampling technique, namely a sampling technique where all members of the population are used as samples without giving each element or member of the population the same opportunity to become a sample. Based on the results of data analysis, it was found that the significant value for mathematical anxiety was and the significant value for self-concept was . The mathematical anxiety factor only partially influences students' mathematics learning outcomes. Meanwhile, based on the F test, the value was  three, and the significant value was . So, there is an influence between mathematical anxiety and self-concept on students' mathematics learning outcomes.
