Abstract

In Indonesia, normal concrete construction is commonly used in the construction process. Excessive concrete waste is usually uncontrolled. Laboratory concrete testing waste can also accumulate and disturb the ecosystem and reduce the aesthetic value of a place. There have been many studies using recycled aggregate from concrete waste. Meanwhile, eggs are one of the foods frequently consumed by Indonesian. Eggshells are certainly becoming waste. According to data from the Indonesia Statistics (2019), chicken egg production in Indonesia reached 4,688,120 tons. Eggshell contains about 94% calcium carbonate with a weight of 5.5 grams. Meanwhile, calcium carbonate is the main constituent of Portland cement, accounting for 70% of other constituents. Based on the reasons above, this study was conducted to determine the effect of chicken eggshell powder as a partial replacement for cement on the mechanical properties of concrete with recycled coarse aggregate. The variations in the use of chicken eggshells in the concrete samples were 0%, 2.5%, 5%, 7.5%, and 10% of the weight of cement. To determine the mechanical properties of the concrete, compressive and splitting tensile tests were conducted using a cylindrical test specimen with a size of 10 x 20 cm. It is expected that the use of chicken eggshell powder can increase the compressive strength of recycled concrete. Based on the test results, the compressive strength of the concrete composition with 2.5% eggshell powder showed the greatest increase compared to the other compositions. This is supported by the UPV test, which showed the same result. The largest increase in splitting tensile strength was also found in the 2.5% composition. Meanwhile, good homogeneity levels were obtained in the concrete, based on the UPV test results on the test specimens at the age of 28 days.

Abstract

To fulfill the needs of construction materials both structural and non-structural in concrete, concrete forming materials are needed that have good resistance to the environment and can also improve the mechanical properties of concrete. One of the materials that can help improve the mechanical properties of concrete is by adding polypropylene fiber and silica fume to the mixture. The addition of silica fume as a substitute for cement is one of the alternatives used to utilize waste so as to reduce the use of cement. besides adding silica fume, the addition of polypropylene fiber can also affect physical properties because one of the advantages of using polypropylene fiber can reduce cracking at a young age. So by adding polypropylene fiber and silica fume into the mixture is expected to increase the compressive strength. In this research, we will substitute silica fume for cement and add polypropylene fibers to the concrete mix. The percentage of silica fume used for cement substitution is 2%, 4%, 6% and 8% while for fiber addition is 1% and 0.5%. From the results of silica fume substitution and the addition of polypropylene fiber, the maximum compressive strength value of the mortar will be sought. From the results of the compressive strength test, the addition of 0.5% polypropylene fiber and the addition of 8% silica fume produced the highest compressive strength, which is around 6.02 MPA.

Abstract

The geographical location of Indonesia, which is very at risk of earthquake disasters, requires the planning of building structures that are resistant to earthquake risks, one of which is by using base isolators. A base isolator system can improve structural performance by dissipating earthquake energy with its flexibility character to increase the vibration period. One type of base isolator is the Fluid Viscous Damper (FVD), which can be applied to high-rise buildings that often experience destruction during earthquakes. This research aims to determine the energy dissipation and ductility of fixed base structures and structures using FVD with finite element method using ABAQUS application. The object of analysis of this study uses a two-story portal with a steel structure. The results of this study obtained the characteristics of the two building models are semi-ductile, but there are differences in the ductility value between the two models. Based on the calculation results, the deviation ductility value that occurs in the fixed base building model is 2.624. Meanwhile, the deviation ductility of the FVD building model is 4.104. The use of FVD can increase the ductility value by 22%. The dissipation that can be done by the fixed base building model is 0.119, and the energy dissipation value for the building model with FVD is 0.156. Using FVD can increase energy dissipation in the analyzed model by 13.45%.

Abstract

The increasing population from year to year has led to a rising demand for housing. Alongside this population growth, there has been a concurrent increase in waste production, particularly plastic waste discarded into the environment. In order to achieve SDG Goal 11, community engagement activities are being conducted. These activities occur within the Ecovillage Karawang community, a network dedicated to environmental preservation and plastic waste recycling. The methods employed include surveys, literature reviews, and the application of Ecobricks. Previously, community engagement activities involved providing tools for plastic shredding and Ecobrick production, but these were limited to residual plastic bottles and hard plastics. This community engagement project (PKM) aims to design and construct a 2.5m x 2.5m reading garden using Ecobricks as a building material. The aim of this PKM program is to provide multiple benefits through a single activity, specifically the application of Ecobricks as a construction material and the reduction of plastic waste through the reuse of ecobricks. This PKM project determined that 105 kg of plastic waste, including wrappers from candies, beverage sachets, plastic bags, and packaging, were used in constructing the reading garden. It, of course, contributes significantly to reducing plastic waste in the environment.

Abstract

In order to carry out maintenance and upkeep activities, the first thing that must be done is to identify the condition of the building while paying attention to the various causes of damage that occurs and plans for future use of the building. The Master of Management Building, Faculty of Economics and Business, Pancasila University is a building that is more than 20 years old and requires repairs. Structural damage investigations are needed to assess building damage to determine the level of damage as an initial step in the process of identifying the level of building damage. This activity aims to assess the level of damage at the case study location. The initial stage of assessing the level of damage is carried out by carrying out visual observations of all building components. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach which focuses on identifying the condition of the building structure. The data collection process was carried out by field observation and interviewing respondents (staff, employees, lecturers, work units at the study location, and faculty leaders) to find out the building's previous function and future plans. Analysis of the condition of the building structure and formulation of follow-up recommendations is prepared by involving experts (building structural experts). The research results showed that from visual observations, no damage was found, especially to the structural elements of the building. However, to plan to restore the building's function, a number of follow-up efforts are required, such as carrying out tests using the Non-Destructive Test (NDT) method, strengthening several structural elements including installing foundations on additional structural parts, and replacing the shape and material of the roof covering.

Abstract

The potential for earthquakes in Indonesia is caused by 2 conditions, namely, Indonesia's location which is located on the Pacific ring of fire, and Indonesia's location which is located at the meeting point of 3 active tectonic plates. The Cianjur earthquake in 2022 was a shallow crustal tectonic earthquake that occurred at a depth of around 10 km with a strength of 5.6 Mw. This main earthquake was followed by 140 aftershocks with strengths ranging from 1.2 to 4.2 Mw. Seeing the large potential for earthquakes in Indonesia, the Ministry of Public Works in 2006 issued guidelines for earthquake resistant building design. The earthquake also had an impact on the midwife clinic located in Cibulakan Urban Village. Where when an earthquake occurs, the building immediately collapses and is razed to the ground. Until 2024, the midwife clinic building will still not be erected and medical activities will be carried out in residential homes. Therefore, this research intends to carry out planning and construction of a 40 m2 building for medical activities. The design of the midwife clinic building takes the philosophy of earthquake-resistant houses built in earthquake-prone areas. One of the building concepts that must be applied in areas prone to earthquake disasters is building structural materials that are relatively lighter than materials in general, but still have sufficient strength. The results of the analysis show that building a midwife clinic costs Rp. 57,277,690 includes tax with a construction time of 32 calendar days.

Abstract

Stunting remains a significant health problem in Indonesia, especially for toddlers in areas with limited access to good nutrition and health services. The purpose of the Community Service Program (PKM) is to improve understanding of clean water management and the provision of nutritious food for pregnant women and toddlers, as well as to empower Posyandu groups. The methods used include the preparation, implementation, and evaluation stages, with a focus on education and training. The subjects in this study were mothers, babies, toddlers, and pregnant women. The data analysis of this study used descriptive data analysis. Data collection used interviews and documentation. The results of this study indicate that empowering Posyandu through training and education on stunting prevention has a positive impact on increasing the knowledge and skills of Posyandu cadres. Before the training, most cadres had a limited understanding of the concept of stunting, causative factors, and prevention efforts. However, after being given intensive training, there was a significant increase in cadres' understanding of the importance of good parenting, providing balanced nutritious food, and routine child growth monitoring practices. This study concludes that providing stunting prevention education can increase the knowledge and awareness of pregnant women and mothers with babies and toddlers regarding efforts to prevent stunting through providing balanced nutrition and clean water sanitation. The implications of this study indicate that empowering Posyandu through training and education on stunting prevention can be an effective strategy for improving the quality of public health services.

Abstract

The availability of clean water is a basic need often unmet in several areas of Indonesia, including Sukagalih Village in Jonggol District, Bogor Regency, West Java. The village faces difficulty accessing clean water due to population growth, climate change, and a lack of water management infrastructure. The community service initiative aims to help address these issues by identifying available water sources and mapping the potential recharge areas in Jonggol District. The methods used include primary data collection through field observations and interviews with the community, direct measurement of water discharge at the source using a flow meter to determine the flow rate at the water source, while the determination of the groundwater recharge area is based on four parameters: rainfall; slope; land use; and soil type. Based on the results of activities and analysis, four water sources are located in Dusun 2 and Dusun 3 with a discharge of 0.126 liters/second, which does not yet meet the community's raw water needs. Based on the analysis of the potential of the groundwater recharge area, Sukagalih village has a high potential for groundwater recharge areas based on rainfall data, soil, land use, and slope gradient.
