Abstract

Abstract

Nurses mostly experience relatively high workloads. Excessive workloads on nurses can cause physical fatigue and affect the mental health of a nurse, thus impacting work activities for a nurse. This study aimed to determine the relationship between workload and the mental health of nurses at the Denpasar City Health Center. This type of research is correlative analytic with a cross-sectional research design. The sampling technique used in this study used the probability sampling technique with the total sampling method. The sample used was 60 respondents from the total population of all nurses at the North and East Denpasar Health Center. The research instrument used in this study for the workload variable was the NASA-TLX (National Aeronautics and Space Administration Task Load Index) instrument. In contrast, the mental health variable used the Self Rating Questionnaire (SRQ) 20 instrument. The results of this study showed that most nurses (55%) experienced heavy workloads. In comparison, the results of the mental health measurements of most nurses (80%) fell into the category of emotional mental disorders. The Spearman Rank test results obtained a p-value of 0.002 <0.05, which means that there is a relationship between the workload variable and the mental health of nurses, and a correlation coefficient value of 0.385 was obtained, which means that the correlation strength is sufficient. Excessive workload on nurses can later cause stress and burnout, ultimately affecting the nurse's mental health. Therefore, it is hoped that nurses can evaluate themselves in reducing their workload so that they can later improve their mental health to remain optimal.

Abstract

Use of postpartum contraceptives is critical to the prevention of unwanted pregnancies and enhancing maternal and child health. Yet, husbands’ support for the use of contraceptives is still low based on cultural beliefs and inadequate knowledge. It is important to understand how health belief influences husbands’ readiness in order to improve family planning. This study will analyze the association between health beliefs and husbands’ readiness to support postpartum contraceptive use. A cross-sectional correlational descriptive design was employed with 170 husbands of postpartum women in Samarinda, Indonesia. Consecutive sampling was used, and data were collected using validated tools modeled after the Health Belief Model (HBM) and a scale of a husband’s preparedness. The tools were found to have high reliability, with Cronbach’s alpha values ranging from 0.761 to 0.988. Data analysis included univariate descriptive statistics and Spearman’s rank correlation to quantify the relationship between preparedness and the health beliefs of husbands. Researchers found a significant positive relationship between preparedness and health beliefs of husbands in support of postpartum use of contraceptives (p = 0.01, r = 0.745). The greatest correlation was between perceived susceptibility and concern (r = 0.548, p = 0.00), then self-efficacy and concern (r = 0.534, p = 0.00). Husbands’ health beliefs play a crucial role in their willingness to support postpartum contraceptive use. Anchoring on education programs that reinforce health beliefs will enhance husbands’ participation in family planning.

Abstract

Abstract

Introduction: Nurse supervisors play a critical role in healthcare, balancing direct patient care with administrative responsibilities. Their high-stress work environment increases the risk of physical and mental health challenges, which can negatively impact job performance. Identifying stressors and implementing effective interventions are essential to improving nurses’ well-being and maintaining high-quality patient care. Objectives: This study examines work-related stress levels among nurse supervisors at Bangli Regional General Hospital. Methods: Using a quantitative approach, data were collected from 99 participants selected through stratified random sampling. The New Brief Job Stress Questionnaire (BJSQ), a validated 63-item instrument, was used to assess stress levels, and data were analyzed using univariate methods. Results: Most nurse supervisors reported low stress levels, suggesting generally manageable workplace conditions. However, a notable proportion experienced moderate-to-severe stress, indicating the need for targeted support. Key stressors likely include high workloads, emotional demands, and insufficient rewards or recognition. To address these concerns, hospitals should enhance communication between staff and management to ensure nurses feel heard and supported. Additionally, improving reward systems—such as performance-based incentives or recognition programs—could boost morale and reduce burnout. Conclusions: Regular stress screenings should also be implemented to identify at-risk individuals early. By adopting these measures, healthcare institutions can foster a healthier work environment, ultimately benefiting both nurses and patient care outcomes. Further research could explore specific stress triggers and evaluate the effectiveness of workplace interventions.
