Abstract

Arah penelitian ini adalah untuk mengevaluasi dampak penanaman refugia terhadap indeks keanekaragaman serta dominansi serangga di lahan budidaya tomat (Solanum lycopersicum). Penelitian ini menerapkan rancangan acak kelompok dengan perlakuan tanpa refugia, serta refugia berupa Zinnia elegans, Cosmos caudatus dan Tagetes erecta. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan refugia seperti Z. elegans dan T. erecta meningkatkan indeks keanekaragaman serangga dan indeks dominansi dibandingkan dengan perlakuan lainnya. Indeks keanekaragaman tertinggi mencapai 1,55 pada penggunaan T. erecta sementara indeks dominansi bernilai 0,44. Penelitian ini menggarisbawahi pentingnya penggunaan refugia untuk meningkatkan biodiversitas dan menjaga keseimbangan ekosistem pertanian dan meskipun peningkatan keanekaragaman hayati berhasil dicapai, tingkat keanekaragaman masih tergolong rendah. This research aims to evaluate the impact of refugia planting on the insect diversity index and dominance index in tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) cultivation areas. The research used an experiment with a randomized block design which included control procedures of no refugia and with the use of Zinnia elegans, Cosmos caudatus, and Tagetes erecta. The study demonstrates that employing refugia such as Z. elegans and T. erecta was also superior in improving the insect diversity index and dominance index compared to other treatments. The maximum estimated index diversity was 1.55 for T. erecta and for the dominance index was 0.44. The study concludes that the application of refugia is necessary for the enhancement of agricultural biodiversity and the equilibrium of the agricultural ecosystems though the diversity attained leaves much to be desired.

Abstract

Household waste management has become a significant challenge in maintaining environmental cleanliness and improving community welfare. This community service program aims to implement waste processing based on the 3R principles (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) with added economic value in the Community Self-Help Group (KSM) Paguntaka, Tarakan City. The activities include education, training, and mentoring in managing organic waste. Organic waste is processed into compost using a simple fermentation method.. The program's results indicate an increase in community understanding of the 3R concept and the ability to process waste into economically valuable products. Furthermore, additional income from the sale of recycled products has contributed to improving the welfare of KSM members. This program also positively impacts reducing the volume of waste that ends up in the landfill, thus supporting environmental conservation efforts. In conclusion, the 3R-based waste management approach involving community empowerment has proven effective in generating economic and environmental benefits. This program is expected to be replicated in other communities to support sustainable waste management.

Abstract

Triggered by a fungus of the genus Fusarium, wilting prevails in various horticultural crops in Indonesia. In asparagus beans, this pathogen can lead to decreased production. One eco-friendly controlling measure is the application of botanical pesticides made from betel leaves and neem leaves which have been extensively used to control various pathogenic fungi.  This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of plant-based pesticides made from neem and betel leaves in controlling Fusarium wilt in asparagus beans. This research was run for approximately six months, initiated at the Laboratory of Plant Protection in Universitas Borneo Tarakan, and ended in the Experimental Garden of the Faculty of Agriculture. It involved Fusarium propagation, preparation of planting media, planting asparagus beans, infecting Fusarium, and producing as well as applying botanical pesticides. It employed a one-factor randomized block design with 5 treatments, control (P0), 5% neem leaf extract per plant (P1), 10% neem leaf extract per plant (P2), 5% betel leaf extract per plant (P3) and 10% betel leaf extract per plant (P4). The covariance analysis results showed that the treatment did nothave a significant effect on the number of affected branches, the number of pods and pod weight. Even so, it can be concluded that P2 can reduce wilted branches by up to 48%, with the same concentration, and P4 can reduce wilted branches by up to 52%. In terms of the total number and the total weight of the pods, P4 achieved the best results with 77 pods, weighing 3,272 grams.

Abstract

Kelompok Tani Takau merupakan kelompok tani yang berfokus pada ekstensifikasi pertanian. Dalam fase ini, petani masih belum mengoptimalkan keberadaan kelompok tani sebagai Lembaga pertanian. Selain itu, pemanfaatan sumber daya lingkungan dalam meningkatkan pertumbuhan dan produksi tanaman juga belum optimal. Tujuan dari kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat adalah untuk menambah pengetahuan dan keterampilan para petani dalam menerapkan praktik pertanian yang berkelanjutan dan ramah lingkungan. Fokus utama dari kegiatan ini adalah sosialisasi tentang penguatan lembaga pertanian, pemupukan yang berkelanjutan, dan penggunaan pestisida nabati di Kelompok Tani Takau, Kabupaten Tana Tidung. Metode yang diterapkan mencakup evaluasi, penyuluhan, dan dialog. Dampak dari kegiatan ini adalah peningkatan pengetahuan dan keterampilan petani dalam mengelola kelompok, memberikan pupuk secara efektif, dan menggunakan pestisida nabati. Kegiatan ini diharapkan akan meningkatkan produktivitas pertanian, kesejahteraan petani, dan kesadaran lingkungan. Kesimpulannya, kegiatan ini memberikan kontribusi yang signifikan dalam pengembangan pertanian berkelanjutan dan kesejahteraan petani di Kabupaten Tana Tidung.

Abstract

AbstrakMasalah yang menjadi perhatian di Rukun Tetangga (RT) 18, Rukun Warga (RW) 02, Kelurahan Kampung Satu, Kota Tarakan adalah masyarakat yang masih memandang bahwa kebersihan lingkungan sekitar adalah tanggung jawab pemerintah dan masyarakat belum mampu memanfaatkan limbah rumah tangga. Selain itu, masyarakat juga memiliki lahan pekarangan yang belum dimanfaatkan dengan baik. Berdasarkan hal tersebut, kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan meningkatkan peran serta dasawisma dan keterampilan masyarakat dalam membangun lingkungan yang lebih sehat dan lestari melalui pendidikan pengelolaan lingkungan. Rangkaian kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat yang telah dlakukan yakni sosialisasi, penyuluhan, pelatihan pengolahan sampah dan pendampingan. Hasil dari kegiatan ini adalah peningkatan pengetahuan anggota dasawisma dalam pengelolaan lingkungan, kelompok dasawisma mampu membuat kreasi keterampilan yang unik, indah dan menarik dari berbagai bahan serta mampu memasarkan hasil melalui LSM Nibung dan memberikan peningkatan terhadap pendapatan keluarga anggota dasawisma. Kata kunci: dasawisma; pengelolaan lingkungan; sampah anorganik; sampah organik AbstractThe issue of concern in Neighborhood Association (RT) 18, Community Association (RW) 02, Kampung Satu Subdistrict, Tarakan City is that the community still views environmental cleanliness as the sole responsibility of the government and has not yet been able to utilize household waste effectively. Additionally, residents have yard space that has not been optimally used. Based on these issues, this community service activity aims to enhance the role of the dasawisma group and improve community skills in creating a healthier and more sustainable environment through environmental management education. The series of community service activities carried out included socialization, counseling, waste processing training, and assistance. The results of these activities include increased knowledge among dasawisma members regarding environmental management, the ability of the group to create unique, beautiful, and attractive handicrafts from various materials, the ability to market their products through the Nibung NGO, and an increase in family income for dasawisma members. Keywords: dasawisma; environmental management; inorganic waste; organic waste

Abstract

Trichomes play a role in protecting plants from herbivores and pathogens, and their formation can be influenced by nutrient availability and environmental factors. This study examined the effect of liquid organic fertilizer (POC) on the development of leaf trichomes in cayenne pepper (Capsicum frutescens) grown on ultisol soil in Tarakan, Indonesia. The experiment used a completely randomized design with seven fertilization treatments: control (P0), NPK (P1), and POC at concentrations of 5–15 g/L (P2–P6), each replicated four times. Leaf samples collected 45 days after transplanting were cleared, stained, and observed microscopically. Several types of trichomes were identified, with non-glandular forms observed more frequently than glandular ones, mainly located along the abaxial midrib and veins. Variation in trichome number and form appeared to increase in plants treated with higher POC concentrations (10–15 g/L). Occasional fungal structures were noted on some leaf surfaces, coinciding with the presence of glandular trichomes. These observations suggest that POC application may influence trichome development in cayenne pepper under field conditions, providing preliminary morphological information relevant to organic fertilization practices on marginal soils.
