Abstract

The integration of digital tools in education often overlooks the potential of cultural enrichment in teaching materials, especially in enhancing writing skills. This study pioneers the development of e-modules infused with South Sumatra's local wisdom, aiming to fill this gap by offering a unique blend of tradition and technology in short story text writing. Employing a Research and Development (R&D) approach, this study involved a needs analysis, prototype development, and iterative testing phases, including small group trials and field trials with 60 students from SMA Negeri 1 Lempuing Jaya and feedback from two Indonesian language teachers. Data were collected through questionnaires, interviews, document checklists, and pretest-posttest measures to evaluate the e-modules' practicality, validity, and effectiveness. The created e-module, integrating procedures for writing short story texts with South Sumatra's local wisdom, achieved a validation score of 81.93% (valid), a practicality score of 93.4% (very practical), and demonstrated a significant improvement in students' writing skills, with a pretest-posttest improvement showing a 2-tailed p-value of <0.0001. This e-module not only bridges the cultural gap in digital educational resources but also highlights the efficacy of local wisdom in enhancing educational outcomes. The significant improvements in student writing skills underscore the potential for such culturally integrated e-modules to serve as a model for future educational materials. These findings advocate for a broader adoption and development of culturally relevant educational tools, emphasizing their role in preserving cultural heritage and improving educational quality.

Abstract

The literacy and numeracy training and mentoring program in Ogan Ilir aims to enhance the competencies of junior high school teachers in supporting the improvement of literacy and numeracy in learning recovery. This program consists of outreach activities, training, and intensive mentoring over two days designed to help teachers improve literacy and numeracy in their respective schools. As an initial step, a pretest was given to the participants to measure their initial understanding of literacy and numeracy. During the training, participants were provided with materials through interactive sessions, group discussions, and hands-on practice to design a literacy and numeracy improvement program. At the end of the training, a post-test was conducted to evaluate the improvement in participants' understanding and skills, with results showing an increase in most participants. This program concludes with monitoring and evaluation through reports and visits to schools to ensure the implementation of training results in their respective educational environments. Overall, this activity can strengthen teachers' literacy and numeracy skills in supporting learning recovery

Abstract

This study explores the integration of digital literacy into BIPA (Bahasa Indonesia bagi Penutur Asing—Indonesian for Foreign Learners) instruction as a strategy to promote the comprehensive skill development of international students, encompassing linguistic, digital, and intercultural competencies. Employing a corpus-based qualitative approach, the research focuses on the analysis of authentic digital communication products created by foreign students through task-based learning activities. The corpus consists of multimodal texts—including blog entries, podcast transcripts, infographics, and interactive digital posters—collected from intermediate-level BIPA students at universities at South Sumatra. The findings reveal three key insights. First, linguistically, students demonstrate improvements in sentence structure, thematic vocabulary (culture, society, technology), and pragmatic appropriateness in digital contexts. Second, in terms of digital literacy, students effectively utilise various platforms (Padlet, Canva, and Flipgrid) to construct and deliver messages creatively, interactively, and in alignment with audience expectations. Third, interculturally, students exhibit the ability to interpret local communication norms, avoid cultural faux pas, and present cross-cultural perspectives through their digital narratives. Corpus analysis also indicates a shift in learners’ roles—from passive recipients of information to reflective, collaborative, and globally connected content creators. This study highlights the potential of integrating digital literacy into BIPA instruction to foster essential 21st-century competencies. The findings provide a valuable foundation for developing a BIPA curriculum that is responsive to both digital transformation and the cultural diversity of international students.

This research method is research and development of modifications based on research needs, namely the combination of Borg and Gall with Dick and Carey.  The data of this research is in the form of qualitative through interview techniques, and quantitative data through questionnaire techniques. The learning model was developed based on a questionnaire of the needs of grade XI students with an average of 83.95%, while the average teacher needs were 89.16%. The results of the learning model design include learning structure (syntax), reaction principles, social systems, support systems, as well as instructional and accompanying impacts. The validation test was carried out by experts consisting of material, language, and media experts. The results of the validation percentage, namely 94.07% material, 73.43% media, 87.5% language with an overall percentage of 85%. Based on the validation results, the Artificial Intelligence (AI)-assisted Project Based Learning learning learning to write scientific papers for students of grade XI MAN 1 Ogan Ilir was declared very feasible for use by students and teachers.
