Abstract

The existence of cyberspace has not only changed human views on spirituality, religion, rituals, houses of worship, scriptures, spiritual teachers, beliefs, divinity, and even the view of god itself. Cyberspace opens up the possibility to carry out various religious activities in a new way that is artificial or virtual. Literature review, as part of the scientific approach, focuses on the literature of journal articles, books, monographs that discuss themes based on keywords related to the research conducted. A new cyber vision of God is developing, which is now seen as a projection or incarnation of humanity (mind, intelligence, power) in the form of computer simulations that are considered to have power close to god's power. This is the vision of man as his own god developed by cyberists, a man who is no longer willing to submit to the authority of power beyond his own power - god man.

Abstract

The Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) organization was established on Rajab 16, 1344 (January 31, 1926), initiated by Hadratussyaikh KH. Muhammad Hasyim Asy’ari in Surabaya, Indonesia. NU, whose age has turned a century (one hundred years), considers that the understanding and mastery of literacy and technology in the digital era possessed by the Nahdliyin (the citizens affiliated to or members of NU) and the Indonesian general public occupy a fundamental position. It is not only within the scope of religion but also socio-political, cultural education, intolerance, stereotypes, radicalism, and terrorism threatening the unity and peace of the international world, the Indonesian nation, and the Nahdliyin in particular. This study employed the Q-DAS (Qualitative Data Analysis Software) approach incorporating a combined model of literature review and netnography on the “TVNU” YouTube channel, social media accounts of ulama (Kyai) of Nahdlatul Ulama, and moderate Islamic websites managed by cyber and network teams affiliated with Nahdlatul Ulama. The present research aimed to observe and analyze the role of NU as the main actor in reorganizing and creating harmony in humankind and realizing world peace by strengthening literacy in the digital era to commemorate the centenary of its establishment.

Abstract

Internal conflict in the struggle for power within the Kingdom of Johor in the 18th century involved the Bugis people in the area. The Upu Daeng Brothers earned the Yang Dipertuan Muda (YDM) in the Kingdom of Johor, married Malay nobles and the sultan's sister after they successfully conquered Raja Kecik. Accordingly, these situations led to the disappearance of Bugis person’s identity. In other words, Bugis descent who marry Malays no longer bear the name Daeng but Raja. The study employed historical research methods applying heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography, in which the data analysis was from the perspective of the cultural identity approach. This research revealed that the Bugis descent who lived and settled in the Johor Riau Kingdom since the 18th century were known as Bugis Malays. The new identity was due to the title 'raja,' bestowed upon the Bugis who married the Malays. The use of the new title began with the involvement of Bugis descendants in government and marriages between Bugis and Malay aristocrats.

Abstract

The Rao Rao Mosque in Tanah Datar, West Sumatra is an ancient mosque built in the early 20th century AD. The roof of this mosque is gonjong, a roof shape commonly found in Minangkabau traditional buildings, both rumah gadang (traditional house) and balai adat (traditional halls). The shape of the roof is different from the shape of mosque roofs in general, both in Minangkabau and other Islamic countries. This research aims to analyze the influence of traditional Minangkabau architecture on the roof of the Rao Rao Mosque along with its meaning. This research was carried out within the framework of case study research. Physically, the roof of the Rao Rao Mosque is clearly influenced by the roofs of traditional Minangkabau buildings. The use of this roof shape also has a philosophical meaning related to the traditional philosophy and life of the Minangkabaunesse. Apart from that, the Rao Rao Mosque keeps a cultural track record of the Minangkabau people at the beginning of the 20th century which is stored in the form of values in its architecture.

Abstract

This paper aims to explore the stemma method in philological studies and analyze the application of this method in researching ancient texts, especially in the aspect of manuscript genealogy. This paper arises in response to the challenges philologists often face when trying to determine the most appropriate method for their research into manuscripts. The presence of various methodological options can often confuse researchers and make them feel disoriented in their research. Therefore, this paper aims to provide guidance to readers in determining the appropriate steps in philological research, especially in the context of manuscripts that are considered ancient or old. One of the methods that will be discussed in detail is the use of Stemma, which is a very useful tool in uncovering the autograph authenticity of ancient manuscripts. By utilizing the Stemma method in research, researchers can take concrete steps to identify and analyze genealogical relationships between various ancient texts. This can help them achieve a deeper understanding of the origins and development of the texts, as well as identify the most authentic or authentic versions. Thus, through a better understanding of the theory, methodology and practical applications of philology, it is hoped that researchers will not feel confused or lost in their research, especially when they are dealing with texts that have a long and complex history.

Abstract

Terubuk fish were an important part of the life of the Bengkalis people in the past, both from an economic and cultural perspective. The high selling price in the market made terubuk a target for fishermen in the area and even involved local and colonial governments. This article examines the history of the catching and trading of terubuk from time to time, as well as the involvement of terubuk in historical dynamics in Bengkalis in the 19th to 20th centuries. This research is historical research which consists of four stages, namely heuristics, source criticism, interpretation and historiography. The results of the research were then analyzed using an animal history approach, in which, according to Rees, animals are agents who have the capacity to contribute to history. As a result of the research, Ikan Terubuk is an agent who plays an important role in the dynamics of trade and cultural history in Bengkalis. From the trade aspect, terubuk is a commodity with high economic value and has also been one of the export commodities in the past. Meanwhile, from the cultural aspect, the idea of ikan terubuk is manifested in the form of tradition through the semah terubuk ceremony and the creation of syair ikan terubuk.

Abstract

The Perang Riau is one of the events that is narrated completely in Tuhfat al-Nafis. This book was originally written by Raja Ahmad Engku Haji Tua and then perfected by Raja Ali Haji in the mid-19th century. Tuhfat al-Nafis discusses various events in the Malay region in full, including the maritime culture of the Malay people and naval warfare. As a historical work written by a Malay, Tuhfat al-Nafis offers an Indonesian-centric historiographic perspective regarding the Perang Riau. There are two problem formulations in this research, first, what are the aspects of Malay maritime culture in Tuhfat al-Nafis? And secondly, what is the narrative of maritime history in the events of the Perang Riau contained in Tuhfat al-Nafis. This research was carried out using historical research methods which consist of four stages, namely heuristics, source criticism, interpretation and historical writing. The results of the research show that Tuhfat al-Nafis explains well the maritime culture of the Malay community, especially with regard to shipping technology. Apart from that, control of geography, resources and maritime communities became the main capital for the Malays to survive and fight against the Dutch.
