Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to analyze two models of female leadership in Islam in Gresik during the formative period (11th -15th centuries) by comparing Siti Fatimah binti Maimun (d. 1082 CE) and Nyai Ageng Pinatih (active 1458-1477 CE). Employing microhistory and feminist historiography methodologies, the research reveals two distinct forms of authority: spiritual genealogical leadership (Waliyah) and structural-maternal leadership (Shahbandar). Siti Fatimah established her authority through Islamic genealogy and religious scholarship, reflected in her monumental tomb complex. Meanwhile, Nyai Ageng Pinatih utilized administrative competence and political networks as the shahbandar (port master) of Gresik port. The findings demonstrate the flexibility of the Nusantara Islamic social system in accommodating female leadership through diverse legitimation mechanisms, challenging the religious-secular authority dichotomy. Moreover, the research also reveals the disparity in collective memory between the two figures, reflecting gender bias in Indonesian Islamic historiography. In conclusion, this study contributes to understanding the complexity of female leadership traditions in Indonesian Islam and its relevance to contemporary gender debates.

Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) has brought about major innovations in various fields, from technology to education. However, behind these advances, there are concerns about the impact of AI on human thinking abilities. This article examines the dilemma humans face in adopting AI, likened to a paradox—between beneficial innovation and the potential destruction of critical thinking. To discuss this topic, this article focuses on two discussions. First, how society and individuals can balance the benefits of AI innovation with the risks of weakening critical thinking abilities and autonomy of thinking? Second, whether ethical boundaries need to be applied in the use of AI to avoid negative impacts on human intellectual abilities. By combining theoretical reviews and case analysis, this article highlights how AI can optimize productivity and innovation while questioning whether excessive dependence on technology can hinder humans' ability to think independently and critically. The discussion also touches on ethical aspects, where considerations need to be made in setting limits on the use of AI so as not to threaten human cognitive abilities and creativity. Ultimately, this article aims to provide a deeper understanding of how AI can be a tool for innovation as well as a potential threat to human intellectual development.

Abstract

Abstract: This paper tries to examine the prophetic ethics of literature contained in the novel Goat and Rain by Mahfud Ikhwan. The prophetic ethics of literature itself is divided into three, namely humanization, liberation, and transcendence. Prophetic ethics that will be discussed in this paper is one aspect of transcendent prophetic ethics, namely the recognition of human dependence on God. Manifestations of human dependence on God have two parts, namely (1) piety and (2) trust. These two parts form the basis of the study of the Kambing dan Hujan novel. This novel is a novel that tells the story of a couple who wants to get married but is constrained by permission from their parents. These constraints arise because each parent has different religious principles, one is a member of the Nahdlatul Ulama, while the other is a Muhammadiyah congregation.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the integration of ecocritical approaches in poetry teaching and their potential in enhancing environmental awareness among junior high school students. This study employs a qualitative approach with a library research methodology that analyzes various primary and secondary sources, including scientific journal articles, reference books, and academic publications, related to literary ecocriticism, poetry pedagogy, and environmental education. The collected data were analyzed using qualitative content analysis techniques with a thematic approach to identify conceptual patterns and build a synthesis of understanding regarding the integration of ecocriticism in poetry learning. The research findings suggest that integrating ecocritical approaches into poetry teaching can be implemented through a systematic process encompassing the selection of ecologically themed poetry, the development of relevant learning contexts, textual exploration from ecocritical perspectives, and the implementation of creative activities. Students' responses to this learning approach demonstrate the complexity of reactions that encompass emotional, cognitive, and social dimensions with high levels of participation. Changes in students' environmental awareness are manifested in multidimensional transformations that include the development of systemic understanding of ecosystems, the strengthening of emotional connections with nature, the evolution of moral orientation from anthropocentric to ecocentric perspectives, and the formation of strong environmental identity. This research recommends the development of literary learning models that integrate ecocritical approaches as an effective strategy to support sustainable environmental education and the formation of an environmentally conscious character from an early age. The study contributes to the advancement of pedagogical frameworks that bridge literary education with environmental consciousness, offering practical implications for curriculum development and instructional design in secondary education contexts.

Abstract

Ecofeminism discourse within Indonesian oral literature presents a new dimension in literary studies connecting ecological aspects, feminism, and local wisdom, yet comprehensive analysis applying ecofeminist perspectives to Javanese oral traditions remains limited. This research aims to analyze the construction of ecofeminist discourse in the Sumur Songo legend from Gresik and examine its relevance to Javanese socio-cultural contexts. The study employs a descriptive qualitative approach with ecofeminism theoretical framework, utilizing systematic documentation methods for data collection and qualitative analysis through coding processes encompassing open, axial, and selective coding stages. The research reveals that ecofeminist discourse in the Sumur Songo legend is constructed through complex interplay of women's subjectivity, natural symbolism, and resistance against patriarchal domination, demonstrated through Nyai Ageng Tumengkang Sari's intimate connection with wells as fertility symbols and her sophisticated resistance strategies using local knowledge of Javanese cosmology. The legend's relevance to Javanese socio-cultural context manifests through integration of balance (timbang) and harmony (rukun) concepts, Islamic-Javanese syncretism in coastal Gresik society, and spiritual practices connecting women's power with natural forces. This study concludes that ecofeminist values have been deeply embedded within Javanese cultural tradition, with oral literature functioning as an effective medium for transmitting these values across generations while providing alternative paradigms for sustainable and gender-just development.
