Abstract

Places of worship and public spaces are areas located within traditional village environments and are regulated under the No Smoking Area (KTR) Regional Regulation at both the Bali Province and Badung Regency levels. Most community activities, particularly among the Balinese population, take place within traditional village settings. This study aims to explore the potential for developing pararem (customary rules) to control the dangers of smoking in Dalung Village, an urban-area village with various activities held in places of worship and public spaces. This qualitative research explores the potential for developing Pararem to control smoking hazards in Dalung Village. Community leaders in Dalung stated that smoking is still frequently observed during religious ceremonies and public activities in the village. All respondents perceived that smoking behavior in the community negatively impacts the health of non-smokers. Pararem has strong potential to be developed as a more binding and respected form of smoking control in villages. With support from the government, relevant institutions, and academics, the development of pararem can begin. However, the process of formulating and aligning it with the provisions of the awig-awig (village customary laws) requires a lengthy process and consensus from village residents.

Abstract

The Amertha Segara group as a partner that has been developing shredded tuna fish products, wants to develop other processed products. Processing seaweed into a product can be developed as a form of diversification of processed seafood in addition to fish-based products. The problem for partners is that they do not have knowledge of how to process seaweed, which is often found in the Tanjung Benoa area, into seaweed dodol. Through community service activities, training in making seaweed dodol was carried out, it is hoped that understanding and skills in producing seaweed dodol products can develop and partners can independently carry out dodol production activities. In addition, assistance in choosing packaging and designing labels was also carried out so that the products produced are suitable for wider marketing and have a competitive selling value. The results of the training obtained the level of understanding and knowledge of partners increased to 85%, and had attractive packaging and labels so that it could increase the selling value of seaweed dodol products.

Abstract

Euphorbia hirta L. is a species of plant renowned for its antioxidant properties. However, the optimal solvent for extracting these bioactive compounds to maximize antioxidant activity had not been systematically identified and compared. Previous knowledge suggested that solvent choice affects yield and efficacy; however, there was a lack of conclusive, comparative data specifically for E. hirta extracts using different solvents. The focus of this work was to investigate how different solvents affected the content of phenolics and flavonoids, as well as the antioxidant effect of E. hirta extract. The aerial part of E. hirta powder was extracted with ethanol, ethyl acetate, and n-hexane to obtain the crude extracts. Folin-Ciocalteu reagent and AlCl3 solution were used to assess the total phenolic and flavonoid contents, respectively. The ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP), 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), and 2,2-azino-bis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS) techniques were used to assess antioxidant activity. The total content of phenolics and flavonoids of E. hirta ethanol extract (127.827 ± 2.609 mg GAE/g extract and 28.507 ± 0.464 mg QE/g extract, respectively) was substantially higher than that of the other extracts (p<0.0001). The findings of the FRAP test exhibited that the E. hirta ethanol extract (48.009 ± 1.873 mg AAE/g extract) had a substantially greater reducing power value (p<0.0001) in comparison to other extracts. The ethanol extract of E. hirta had a considerably lower IC50 value (6.154 ± 0.063 ppm and 9.429 ± 0.183 ppm for DPPH and ABTS assays, respectively, with p<0.0001) than the other extracts. This study found that solvent polarity had a substantial influence on the antioxidant activity of E. hirta extracts, with ethanol being an optimal solvent for the extraction procedure.
