Abstract

Dayak is one of the ethnic groups in Indonesia which has a fairly high cultural value. Among the many ethnic groups in Indonesia, the Dayak tribes became the oldest and the only original tribes of Borneo. Dayak tribe has its own traditions and cultural traits, namely as a tradition that has always been their ancestral worship; body or merajak tradition known as tattoos, which are now known as “Borneo Tattoo” society;, the tradition of letting their ears, and much more to culture and traditions. But the tradition and culture that the rich are now extinct, they had long abandoned their traditions and culture. The appointment of these themes to cultural traditions and reintroduced the Dayak community to Indonesia with the existence or the more modern packaging however contain cultural values in it.

Abstract

Shopping center mall which is known as a place that containts all kinds of products to market and received by the visitors as a place to buy needs and recreation. The visitors often come just to accompany their partners without any other intentions. When they feel tired and bored but their partner is still walking around, they will wait. This design is intended to find two needs from the visitors who waits and the shopping center mall’s administrator. The initial observation which was done is intended to gain the data of needs, habit, and characters of the visitors in the situation that make them waits. Observation is also done to gain data from the availability of waiting area in the shopping center mall, which is bench. The results of the observation becomes the reference of some case studies which are announced to the public to know the habits of the users in choosing sitting position which has been prepared by the mall’s developer. Besides that, the mall’s developer have other needs and main purpose which is money oriented profits. So in this design, with adding commercial elements as the main point in this waiting activity, whereas even if the visitors are just waiting, they can optimally interact. The result of the thinking process to combine both needs, advertising, information center, also online shopping facility become something that is a huge advantage for the mall and also become one of the waiting facility for the visitors to spend their time.

Abstract

Nowadays, studio type apartment become a choice of residence for people even though it has limited space.  Therefore, the furniture in the apartment should be a saving space one, because it does not make the circulation of the apartment smaller but it fulfills the needs of the occupant for furniture.  There are some methods that be used for this design, that are observation about the occupant’s needs of the furniture and analyze it, designing the furniture then analyze it again, after that make the prototype. Based the analysis, there are four types of main furniture that occupant needs, which are chair, table, bedside and storage. At the end, after design and the prototype making, it can be concluded that the saving space furniture such as folding furniture set is a good choice for studio type apartment.  Using multi-layered wood as the material for the design, the key of designing folding furniture is in the shape of it, and the system used like the folding system.

Abstract

Nowadays, store-based retailing is one of the most popular businesses. Fierce competition requires retailers to be able to accommodate customer’s needs with high integrity and competitive interior design at the modest price. Design shall be flexible and adaptive to the changes. Therefore, it is essential to make a furniture design which enhances the efficiency and effectiveness value that leads to the convenience of the users. It would be only achieved by conducting a thorough survey as well as a comprehensive study literature of the layout basics, furniture design types and terms, construction systems, and alternatives studies of styles and materials selection. Thus the formula will be obtained in the form of provisions in the good design of a flexible furniture, that will be applied in the design for shoes and bags retail.

Abstract

Nowadays, schools in Indonesia began to take part in a full day school program, where for 8 hours, students will learn and carry out their activities in the classroom in a seated position. at the same time the furniture used by students is still not in accordance with the body size of the students even though they already have SNI. This non-ergonomic furniture can have a negative impact on students bone growth later on. Therefore, furniture with the right size is needed to support the activities of the students while in school. Ergonomics is a science, art, and application of technology to balance all facilities used by human with the human itself. Through this study, it is known that the furniture used now by students in Wonocolo district Elementary School, Surabaya is still lacking in ergonomics so the size of the furniture that is currently used must be divided into three groups, namely classes 1-2, class 3-4, and grades 5-6 so that students can focus on learning and avoid disruption of bone growth. This research was conducted using quantitative methods with a descriptive approach. The body size of the children are then processed to obtain the results of percentile calculations as a measurement and design of ergonomic furniture in the Public Elementary School, Wonocolo Sub-District, Surabaya. The size and design of the furniture that is produced can be used as a reference for the further making of furniture for Public Elementary School students in Wonocolo district, Surabaya.

Abstract

This church is a unique church and one of the cultural heritages in Probolinggo because the whole building is red and built using a knockdown system. The construction of this church was carried out in 1862, where neogotics were developing and the industrial revolution took place, so it was likely that the church was affected by the neogotic and industrial revolutionary styles. This study aims to prove the style affecting the Protestant Church of West Indonesia Immanuel Probolinggo. The method used is descriptive-qualitative, with case study approach. It started with data collection which was done by literature study, observation, and interview. Then, the data have been obtained in comparison with the literature using a comparison table.The results show that GPIB Immanuel was affected with Neogothic Style and Industrial Revolution which developed in that era.

Abstract

Modular indoor booth design is an inovation on product display system for the interior of exhibition space. The aim of this booth design is to facilitate the exhibition’s organizer in setting up and disassembling the booth. Combining modular system and breakdown system in the design may provide an ease in many aspects, such as in transportation, assembly dan storage. The advantages of this display system are its capability in adapting on different situation may appear in exhibition space and creating several different forms from one set booth design. It also supports the world in overcome global warming by using material efficiently.

Abstract

The phenomenon of the increasing number of homeless and beggars in Surabaya is a social welfare problem caused by the infrastructure that grows unevenly, which cause great migration from suburban to urban area, where not all people has enough ability or education. The “Harapan Baru” social parlors is designed as a shelter and training ground with a certain time span so they can learn and hopefully be equipped with something that can be used to get a good living. The concept used is “Ameliorate Gemstone” which means something will be valuable after being sharpened and going through several processes. That concept is applied through variety of rooms that use durable materials and able to answer all the resident needs, it also includes the nature elements like vertical garden, lighting system, and natural ventilation. This aims for energy and cost saving, as well as a learning for the occupant in processing scraps.

Abstract

The Rekarasa lounge in Petra Christian University is a facility that is used to stop by and lay back, which will be a study center. In the execution process, the lounge visitors are dominated by the students of Hospitality Management Department, and visitors which have a specific need (For example meetings and to greet guests). In the development plan that is carried out in the Rekarasa lounge, the author takes this opportunity to do researches to develop facilities for the lounge in order for it to be an excellent study center, by using facilities to attract students in Petra Christian University. By using Kembel’s design thinking, the development can be efficient and right on target, through processes which are defining the problem, data grouping, sistematical analysis, making a prototype and testing to accommodate the different needs of the user. After the testing phase, the final phase is the implementation phase which evaluates whether the product is sustainable or not and evaluating the effects and impacts that was made by the product solution. With the space limitations, the solution for it is a flexible and modular based facility. The design output are tables, chairs, stools, puffs and a side table. Therefore, it can be made into a business model as well as brand to be marketed to fulfill the various needs of the society also.
