Abstract

This research aims to map the problems posed by COVID-19 to tourism conditions in North Sumatra to near the conditions of zero tourism. To date, no effort can be made by the tourism industry to solve the problem of COVID-19, only await the government in tackling it. From The study it was found that the keys indicators in measuring the impact of COVID-19 on tourism are; The impact on economic, social, environmental also the assessment through time, change, and quality of tourism. A new finding is that the impact of tourism can also be assessed through time, change, and quality of tourism. This data is using qualitative methods through in-depth interviews with four major stakeholders of the tourism industry; management of tourist destinations, tour agencies, accommodation, and transportation services. The results of this study illustrated the chronology of tourism activities to zero tourism situation, from the four main stakeholders, which in charge of transportation services and tour agency was the most affected stakeholder and could not operate in the time of COVID-19. The results of the study can be a formula in formulating a strategic tourism management policy during the outbreak until the tourism activity can be normal again.

Abstract

Technology development has a major role in tourism growth in Indonesia. One of these technology products is Instagram. Instagram has been recognized worldwide as a platform that can give dominant influence on increasing product sales and increasing tourist visits to a tourism destination. This Instagram has 3 main content as a channel of information to society, namely video content, photos and written content. This is what wants to be tested experimentally in the Lake Toba region, especially in the Samosir Regency, the Harian Boho District. The initiation of this research was carried out not only as a copyright work, but through this research it can be understood the effectiveness of using films for promotional purposes on Instagram on its impact in increasing tourist visits to a tourism destination during the COVID-19 pandemic. The method that is used in this research is descriptive qualitative phenomenology with data collection techniques, namely snowball sampling. The results of this study found that publishing travel promotion films through social media Instagram turned out to have a very significant impact in increasing tourist visits to a destination. It was recorded that after publishing the film, the increase in tourist visits reached 1,648 visits (August 2020) even though in the previous month there were only 22 people recorded. From this experiment, it is proof that Tourism Promotion Films have significant influence on increasing tourist visits during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract

The tourism industry as a foreign exchange earner for the non-oil and gas sector in Indonesia has contributed US $ 16.426 billion in 2018 or around 200 trillion rupiahs. North Sumatra Province is one of the government's priorities in the tourism sector, measured from the construction of Sisingamangaraja XII International Airport in Silangit, the establishment of the Lake Toba Super Priority National Tourism Strategic Area (KSPN). The current Ministry of Tourism has made significant reforms, namely changing the focus from quantity tourism to quality tourism. The development of tourism quality that is currently underway in the Lake Toba area is then measured from the perceptions of tourists who respond to the quality values they have received while in the tourist area of Lake Toba. The theory used in this research is the theory of tourism by Nare, and the theory of foreign tourists by Ghanem. Furthermore, the method used is the quantitative data analysis method. Based on the results of the study it was found that the Cronbach's Alpha value was 0.931> 0.60, so as the basis for decision making in the reliability test, it can be concluded that the data tested was reliable or consistent and reliable. Tourism actors involved in the research were also mostly tourism actors in 2004, so based on their answers it was found that there was a significant change in perceptions of foreign tourists, namely 0.931%.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the film The Heart of Toba showing the socio-cultural conditions of the Toba Batak people, especially in Samosir Regency. In the film The Heart of Toba, there are interesting polished images, and the creation of a light plot in capturing the reality of the life of the Toba Batak people and also the beauty and natural charm of Lake Toba. So, this study provides a complete review of the semiotic analysis of the film The Heart of Toba with the image of Lake Toba as a beautiful country, a piece of heaven. This research uses a semiotic approach with a qualitative research paradigm. This method is used to determine the semiotic meaning of the symbols contained in this film as a promotional film for the beauty of Lake Toba, analysis of criteria for the beautiful land of pieces of paradise, and the correlation of The Heart of Toba film with branding of Lake Toba, the beautiful land of pieces of paradise. Semiotic analysis tries to reveal the signifier and the signified as well as the meaning of the film The Heart of Toba. The theoretical framework used is a semiotic approach, namely the science that examines signs in human life, the meaning obtained from a sign at the mimetic level cannot be used to express its meaning. The results of this research will be published in an accredited international journal.
