Abstract

Abstract

Physical education (PE) plays a pivotal role in fostering children's motor skills and physical fitness, especially at the primary school level. However, declining levels of physical activity and student engagement have prompted educators to seek more interactive and effective teaching strategies. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of flashcard-based instruction in improving the physical fitness of elementary school students during PE lessons. Unlike previous studies that mainly applied flashcards for cognitive learning or basic motor instruction, this study examines their direct impact on physical fitness outcomes. This approach positions flashcards not only as conceptual aids but as visual-motor triggers designed to enhance exercise intensity and movement quality during PE lessons. A quasi-experimental design with a pre-test–post-test control group format was employed. A total of 84 fifth and six-grade students from two public elementary schools in West Java, Indonesia, participated in the study. The experimental group (n=42) received PE instruction integrated with flashcard media, while the control group (n=42) followed conventional PE lessons without media aids. Physical fitness was measured using the Indonesian Student Physical Fitness Test (TKSI) Phase C, comprising five test items. Data were analyzed using paired sample t-tests and independent sample t-tests. Both groups showed significant improvement in post-test scores (p < 0.05). However, the experimental group exhibited a significantly higher gain score (M = 5.12) compared to the control group (M = 2.34), indicating greater effectiveness of flashcard-based instruction. Flashcards enhance student engagement, comprehension, and movement execution in PE lessons. As a practical and low-cost instructional tool, flashcards hold promise for improving physical fitness outcomes among elementary school students, particularly in resource-limited educational settings.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the application of shooting exercises using the Beef method to the accuracy of free throws of basketball extracurricular students at Cimahi State Junior High School 5. This study uses the pre-test and post-test one-group experimental method. The research population is students who actively participate in basketball extracurricular extracurricular at Cimahi State Junior High School 5. Sampling uses purposive sampling techniques so that 10 students are obtained as samples that meet the specified criteria. The results showed a significant increase in the accuracy of free throws of basketball extracurricular students, indicated by the average difference before and after treatment (pre-test = 3.7 and post-test = 6.20) and t-test (t-count = -7,319; p = 0.000 <0.05). Thus, the application of shooting exercises using the BEEF method can increase the accuracy of free throws of basketball extracurricular students in Cimahi State Junior High School 5.

This study addresses the issue of the impact of the school environment on students’ learning motivation in physical education at the junior high school level. The aim of this research is to determine the effect of the school environment on learning motivation in physical education among junior high school students. This research employed an ex post facto method with data collected through a questionnaire conducted at SMP Negeri 3 Padalarang. The population consisted of all students at SMP Negeri 3 Padalarang, and the sample was one class of 45 students selected using a cluster random sampling technique. The research instrument was a questionnaire consisting of 27 statement items that had been tested for validity and reliability. The results showed that most students responded with "strongly agree" (51%) and "agree" (47%) to the statement that the school environment has a positive impact on their learning motivation in physical education.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the experiences of Physical Education, Sports, and Health (PJOK) teachers in implementing character education at private elementary schools in Cimahi City. Character education has become a central issue in education due to the moral decline among the younger generation. PJOK teachers play a strategic role in shaping students' character through physical activities that emphasize values such as discipline, sportsmanship, cooperation, and responsibility. This research employs a qualitative approach with a phenomenological method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with two experienced PJOK teachers from private elementary schools in Cimahi. Data analysis was conducted thematically based on Miles and Huberman's framework, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that PJOK teachers integrate character values through modeling, group games, reflective discussions, and positive reinforcement. The main obstacles encountered include limited instructional time, lack of facilities, and students' low awareness of character values. In conclusion, PJOK learning plays a crucial role in holistic character development, and teachers' experiences can serve as valuable insights for prospective educators to implement effective character education in elementary schools.
