Abstract

Background: Cervical cancer in Indonesia is the second leading cause of death and a significant health burden, largely due to low screening coverage. Indonesia faces challenges in developing women's health due to a lack of information, studies, weak relationship between research, management, planning, and service provision, and limited resources and expertise. This study aimed to examine the effect of an empowerment-based educational intervention on improving knowledge and participation in cervical cancer screening among women of reproductive age in Indonesia. Methods: A randomized clinical trial was conducted in Jakarta, Indonesia, from February to July 2023, involving 150 eligible women. Participants were allocated to intervention or control groups using block randomization (block size = 4) with a 1:1 ratio. The intervention group received a three-week empowerment program consisting of six educational sessions. Outcomes, including cervical cancer knowledge and screening participation, were measured at baseline and eight weeks post-intervention. Data were analyzed using t-tests, chi-square tests, and linear regression. Risk ratios and differences were estimated using marginal standardization. Analyses followed the intention-to-treat principle, with blinding applied during data analysis. Results: A randomized study with 80 participants showed an improvement in knowledge about cervical cancer and cancer cervical screening participation at 8 weeks. The intervention group showed a mean difference of 3.91 (1.38) and 4.24 (0.45) p<0.05. More participants in the intervention group reached Minimal Clinically Important Differences (MCIDs) in knowledge about cervical cancer and cancer cervical screening participation than in the control group, with a relative risk of 2.34 (95% CI=1.08-4.36) and 2.57 (95% CI=1.21-4.90), respectively. Conclusion: An empowerment program significantly enhances knowledge and participation in cancer cervical screening among reproductive age women in Indonesia after intervention, but further studies are needed to determine its long-term impact.

Abstract

Introduction: Sex education that is not given at an early age results in high levels of sexual violence against children committed by those closest to the child, including the family. This phenomenon shows the importance of understanding sex education in early childhood. The problem of sex education at this time is not being paid much attention to by parents, so they leave all their children's education to schools, including sex education. Even though those who are responsible for sex education in early childhood are parents, schools are only a complement, and in schools, there is no curriculum on sex education so early childhood is sometimes neglected.  Methods: This research is quantitative research, namely research that uses data in the form of numbers as a tool to analyze information about what you want to know. Correlation research design with a cross-sectional approach.  Results: In the chi-square test, the Asymptotic Significance (2-sided) value was obtained. The Pearson chi-square test obtained a p-value of 0,017 (< 0,05); so it can be concluded that H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. Thus it can be interpreted that there is a relationship between respondents' knowledge and sexual behavior statistically and is quite significant for BIM Banjarsari Vocational High School students.  Discussion: Reproductive health knowledge and social behavior of SMK BIM Banjarsari students is still lacking, there is a relationship between respondents' knowledge and sexual behavior statistically and quite significant for students of SMK BIM Banjarsari with a p-value of 0,017 (< 0,05).

Abstract

Menstrual pain is a common issue among adolescent girls, often disrupting their daily activities. To address dysmenorrhea, one effective approach is the use of dysmenorrhea exercises and deep breathing relaxation techniques. This study investigates the effectiveness of these methods in reducing menstrual pain among adolescent girls in Indonesia. Utilizing a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest with control group, the research sampled 210 adolescent girls experiencing menstrual pain, selected through purposive sampling. Data was collected via observation sheets and analyzed using paired sample t-tests and independent t-tests. The findings show that before the dysmenorrhea exercises, most participants experienced moderate pain (63.80%), which decreased to mild pain (74.30%) afterward. Similarly, before the deep breathing technique, most participants had moderate pain (76.20%), which reduced to mild pain (58.10%) post-intervention. Both dysmenorrhea exercises (p-value 0.000) and deep breathing techniques (p-value 0.000) were effective in reducing pain, but dysmenorrhea exercises proved more effective. Adolescent girls are encouraged to regularly perform dysmenorrhea exercises and deep breathing techniques for 30 minutes daily during the week leading up to menstruation to manage menstrual pain effectively.
