Abstract

Snacks for school-age children are important for meeting daily nutritional needs, but both excess and deficiency of nutrients can affect children's growth and development. This study aims to develop a healthy snack based on Binto' Toeng flour (Barbinto) and to test its acceptability and nutritional content. The research was conducted using an experimental design with a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) from April to June 2024, involving the preparation of gude bean flour, the production of Barbinto, organoleptic testing, and nutritional analysis. The organoleptic test showed that the control formulation had the highest preference score from both trained panelists and consumer panelists, with mean values of 5.23 and 5.80, respectively. Among the three experimental formulations, the one with 10% gude bean flour had the highest mean score of 5.2 and 5.05. Nutritional analysis indicated an increase in protein, fiber, ash, Vitamin A, and iron content, although there were decreases in carbohydrate, fat, water, Vitamin C, and zinc levels. Barbinto is expected to become a healthy snack option for schoolchildren, but innovations are needed to reduce the off-flavor in the product.

Abstract

Excessive consumption of Sugar-Sweetened Beverage (SSB) can cause various health problems, such as weight gain, diabetes and disease. The approach used in this service is Participatory Action Research (PAR), which means looking at the level of participation of participants in outreach and demonstration activities. In this approach, the community service team carries out persuasive and non-commanding facilitation efforts which aim to increase community knowledge, attitudes and behavior in finding, planning and solving problems using the resources/potential they have including the participation and support of community leaders. This community service activity uses an outreach method with a lecture, question and answer and discussion approach. The activity participants were mothers in Pattallassang Village. Before and after education, participants were given a questionnaire to determine their level of knowledge about MBDK. The results of community service show that there is an increase in the knowledge of mothers in Pattallassang Village before and after education about MBDK, with p value = 0.008. Outreach activities about MBDK to mothers in Pattallassang Village have succeeded in increasing their knowledge significantly.

Abstract

Nutrition remains a major public health issue in Indonesia, significantly affecting the quality of human resources. One persistent nutritional problem is stunting, which continues to impact many communities, including Pacciongang Hamlet, where data showed a stunting prevalence of 11.1%. The program included problem identification, development of a problem-solving framework, and implementation through a series of activities: pre-test, health education, post-test, and practical training. One key intervention was a demonstration of preparing complementary food using local ingredients—specifically, Moringa leaves processed into nutritious pudding. Moringa was chosen due to its high protein content and availability in the village.  To evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention, pre- and post-tests were conducted to assess participants' knowledge on stunting, exclusive breastfeeding, and the benefits of Moringa. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. The results showed a significant increase in participants' understanding, with a p-value < 0.05, indicating a meaningful difference in knowledge before and after the counseling sessions. Additionally, the demonstration session successfully empowered participants to prepare and serve Moringa pudding following the given recipe. This initiative not only increased awareness of stunting prevention but also provided a practical solution using affordable and accessible local resources. In conclusion, the health education and training activities were effective in enhancing community knowledge and skills related to child nutrition and stunting prevention. This community-based approach highlights the importance of local resource utilization and participatory education in improving public health outcomes.

Abstract

Mental health is an essential aspect of an individual's life that affects adaptability to stress, productivity and overall well-being. Improving mental health literacy is an important preventive strategy in dealing with psychological challenges, including promoting positive attitudes, self-efficacy, and help-seeking behavior. This study aims to identify educational and digital technology-based interventions and evaluate their effectiveness in improving mental health literacy. The method used was a traditional literature review of ten relevant scientific articles, obtained through a rigorous selection process from PubMed and Google Scholar databases. The initial search yielded 1,524 articles from PubMed and 201 from Google Scholar.  Articles were obtained using a combination of keywords such as “mental health promotion”, “intervention”, ‘adolescents’ and “mental health education”. The analysis showed that different forms of interventions, such as online trainings, mental health curricula, digital self-efficacy training, and audiovisual media, were effective in increasing understanding, positive attitudes, self-efficacy, and propensity to seek professional help. The success of interventions relies heavily on contextualized, interactive and active participation-based designs, as well as integration with social support. Therefore, the development of adaptive, inclusive, and sustainable intervention models is crucial in strengthening efforts to promote and prevent mental health problems.

Abstract

Mental health is a crucial aspect of marriage and pregnancy that is often overlooked in premarital counseling. This study aims to examine the role of marriage counseling in shaping prospective mothers' positive attitudes towards mental health. Through a literature review of ten relevant research articles, it was found that premarital counseling is effective in enhancing mental readiness, reducing anxiety, and fostering prospective mothers' understanding of mental health, marital communication, and preparation for pregnancy. Counseling interventions, whether face-to-face, online, or through technology-based approaches, have been proven to strengthen prospective mothers' readiness for marriage and parenthood. However, long-term effectiveness depends on participants' active involvement and environmental support. Therefore, innovative, interactive, and sustainable counseling programs are necessary to maximize their impact.
