Abstract

The Cérékang people are often used as an example of how Indigenous Peoples successfully carry out traditional conservation of customary forests. This article aims to investigate the conditions that sustain the forest conservation in Cérékang by using Berkes’s (2008) concept of traditional ecological knowledge (TEK) and Houde’s (2007) six dimensions of TEK as the framework. Data collections were obtained through literature review, direct observation, in-depth interviews, and focus group discussions with key informants. The results of the study are as follows: First, the mythical construction around the area of forest is connected to their cosmology and stories of origin associated with the La Galigo epic, and the Cérékang people have developed protective attitudes towards forests consistent with the term “sacred ecology”. Second, such an attitude is endured by the ethics that respect the intimate relationship between humans, nature, and spiritual realms, which is subsequently manifested through prohibitions to enter the sacred forest except for ritual. This implies that the Cérékang people rely on symbolic knowledge, not technical knowledge, to protect the forest. The protected forest does not only provide cultural ecosystem services but also regulates services that indirectly benefit the Cerekang People such as flood prevention. Yet, the uncertain legal status of the sacred forest and the activities of a mining company around the area pose threats for continued conservation efforts. Consequently, to exercise direct control over the sacred forest area, new community organizations are integrated with customary institutions formed with support from NGOs, local government, and universities. This can be seen as their adaptation strategy to survive and conserve the forest amid ongoing challenges.

Abstract

This study aims to pinpoint the relevant relation between two literary works which have a relationship with one another in the perspective of comparative literature studies. Data were gathered through the text deconstruction theory method by means of an intertextuality approach. The method is applied to juxtapose two well-known poems, Krawang Bekasi (Indonesia) and The Young Dead Soldiers Do Not Speak (America), which are suspected of having the same content and theme, but their relations were never revealed. This thematic-based study uses a multicultural perspective and is naturally suitable for comparative literature study. The objective of this study was to reveal the existence of Krawang Bekasi as one of the Indonesian poems written by Chairil Anwar and to demonstrate the cultural translation methods, known as cultural intertexts relation, for finding the intertextuality of two literary works. In fact, by tabling line through line, the intertextuality was found to be workable in comparative literature. As a result, the study shows that Krawang Bekasi by Chairil Anwar is an adaptation which borrows from and transforms The Young Dead Soldiers Do Not Speak by Archibald MacLeish. Thus, the intertextual relationship of these two works is revealed.

Abstract

AbstractAn example of anomaly detection is detecting behavioral deviations in internet use. This behavior can be seen from web traffic, which is the amount of data sent and received by people who visit websites. In this study, anomaly detection was carried out using stacked Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM). First, stacked LSTM is used to create forecasting models using training data. Then the error value generated from the prediction on test data is used to perform anomaly detection. We conduct hyperparameter optimization on sliding window parameter. Sliding window is a sub-sequential data of time-series data used as input in the prediction model. The case study was conducted on the real Yahoo Webscope S5 web traffic dataset, consisting of 67 datasets, each of which has three features, namely timestamp, value, and anomaly label. The result shows that the average sensitivity is 0.834 and the average Area Under ROC Curve (AUC) is 0.931. In addition, for some of the data used, the window size selection can affect the sum of the sensitivity and AUC values. In this study, anomaly detection using stacked LSTM is described in detail and can be used for anomaly detection in other similar problems. Keywords: time-series data; sliding window; web traffic; window size.

Abstract

Advances in technology at this time not only to open mind but also changed the way humans communicate and interact. Forms of communication that are generally carried out face-to-face have now shifted a lot to virtual forms of communication on social media as intermediaries. Furthermore, communication on social media allows people to speak freely without thinking about language ethics and politeness. This virtual communication not only involves text alone but also uses emotions to represent a picture of their feelings. This research aims to find the use of official language on Instagram social media and to analyze the use of public officials' language when communicating on social media. The social media chosen as the subject of this study is Instagram which is widely used and accessed by internet users. This research used a descriptive qualitative method. The data source for this research prioritizes uploads by public officials only. The implementation of data collection in this study was a documentation method by collecting uploads of public officials on Instagram social media. The results of this study found that most public officials in private uploads had impolite comments seen in five factors, namely direct criticism with harsh words, encouragement of the speaker's emotional sense, protective of opinions, deliberately accusing the interlocutor, and deliberately cornered speech partners.
