Abstract

The use of technology is crucial to support effectiveness in the learning process. In this development trend, teachers are required to master and be able to use technology inside and outside the classroom or Teacher Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK). This service program aims to answer the challenges faced by teachers at the high school level. Through training programs/workshops, teachers as participants are supposed to get knowledge about the use of technology in 3 learning processes, namely preparing materials (material design), attractive learning activities (learning engagement), and conducting evaluations or assessments.

Abstract

This study was intended to explore educators’ point of view in higher education related to AIpowered writing tools on students’ writing skills. By means of phenomenological research using lived-experience approach by Manen (2016), the study endeavored to find detail information of six higher education teachers from four Indonesian private Universities related to their perspective of the use of AI-powered writing tools in higher education. The study revealed four main aspects namely strength, weakness, opportunity and threats. AI-powered writing tools deliberately bring positive sights on their implication in language learning. These constructive points are time and access efficiency in practice which enable users to use it as simple as possible. These tools are also seen to be good in providing real-time feedback and helping users to synthesize the materials quickly. Moreover, these tools covey their weakness as seem to produce unnatural work and use sophisticated dictions where sometimes are irrelevant. Furthermore, this study found that the respondents also highlight some possible threats led by the implication of those AI-powered writing tools. They saw the use of these tools recurrently will give rise to dependence on the tools and decrease students’ capability. Those tools are believed to decrease students’ creative and critical thinking when students feel comfortable in using it as their problem solvers in writing projects. From the findings, it can be construed that AI-powered writing tools could bring both positive and negative impact on the users. The study suggested that further researchers could explore the mitigation of possible threats of the integration of AI-powered writing tools and academic use.

Abstract

This program is in line with its main goal to make nearby region a suitable tourism destination that values linguistic diversity and prioritizes the needs of visitors. This program was based on initial findings that Towil Fiets as a potential international tourism destination still got obstacles in English as the main language of communication. It was found that administrative staff and tour guides still had a moderate level of English proficiency especially for tourism. They also demonstrated limited contextual linguistics aspects. This program was implemented for about two months as an effort to solve the problems. The first point was focused on comprehensive language training programs addressed to the specific needs of each group. The second pointer was in-depth language workshops complemented by practical on-site training sessions at key tourist attractions. The results showed that the participant could get deeper conversation and wider explanation related to the context of tourism object.

Abstract

Abstract

The phenomenon of phonological error as the common sense in pronouncing the words not only happens among beginners but also among the advanced English learners. The English learners are also active speakers who use English as their second language used such as in a formal situation. They tend to pronounce the same for words that have same spelling as other words in most parts of the words or even thewhole words but of different parts of speech. The present writers’ study tries to answer the question on how the English learners’ pronunciation is influenced by words with the same spelling. The participants of the study were Indonesian college students who learned English at the advanced level. In order to get the data, they were given word lists that contained a number of words and then asked to pronounce them. These words were suspected as common mistakes pronounced by the advanced learners. For example the word ‘determine’ is pronounced the same as the word ‘mine’, the word ‘preface’ is pronounced as ‘face’. In this study, the result reveals that the English learners tend to pronounce the words that refer to other words that contain the same orthography. Orthographically, the words and part of the words have the same spelling but they do not share the same pronunciation. Therefore, this error is commonly found among English learners even among those of the advanced level.
