Abstract

The orphanage supervisor plays an important role in instilling religious values in the orphanage children, especially in building the religious foundation for those from low-income backgrounds who lack parents to guide them directly. This study aims to determine and explain the role of the supervisor in instilling religious values in children at the Guyub Rukun Orphanage. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach, specifically a case study type,  utilizing a purposive sampling technique to cover 4 informants: 2 orphanage supervisors who serve as the head of the orphanage, and 2 orphanage children. This study uses Talcott Parsons Structural Functionalism theory to collect data using non-participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data analysis refers to the interactive model of Miles and Huberman, which consists of three stages: data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions and verification. The results of this study show that instilling religious values is achieved by building habits of religious practice, such as congregational prayer and religious studies, and by fostering an attitude of mutual respect and discipline. Instilling religious values emphasizes the importance of mentors as role models for orphanage children facing difficult economic conditions and lacking religious guidance from their families. This shows that mentors have a role as educators, spiritual guides, moral role models, and substitute parents in shaping the religious values of orphanage children. There are challenges caused by foster children not living permanently in the orphanage.

ABSTRACT Social awareness is understood as the knowledge, concern, and responsibility of parents in fulfilling balanced nutrition for their children’s growth. This study aims to analyze the social awareness of PKK (Family Welfare Empowerment) members regarding the fulfillment of children's nutrition in Malabero Village. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through interviews, observation, documentation, and focus group discussions using purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using Berger and Luckmann’s theory of social construction. The analysis process consisted of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings show that parents’ level of social awareness varies. In terms of understanding, some parents still rely on the traditional concept of “Four Healthy Five Perfect,” while others have adopted the balanced nutrition guideline. In terms of attitudes, some parents show concern by providing nutritious meals even with limited resources, while others are more permissive toward instant or processed foods. In practice, some families implement healthy eating patterns, while others prioritize fullness over nutritional quality. These differences are influenced by economic conditions and educational background. PKK plays a significant role as a forum for exchanging information and fostering social empathy. Based on Berger and Luckmann’s Social Construction Theory, nutritional awareness is shaped through three processes. First, externalization, where individuals express their understanding of social reality based on subjective interpretation. Second, objectivation, where shared interactions in the intersubjective world become institutionalized or routinized. Third, internalization, where individuals adopt and interpret objective realities as personal meaning. Thus, parents’ social awareness of children’s nutrition is a socially constructed reality that continues to develop alongside increasing knowledge and participation in PKK activities. Keywords: Children, Nutrition, Social Interaction, Social Awareness, Parents, PKK, Malabero.
