Abstract

This study explores the impact of the Six Universities Initiative Japan-Indonesia (SUIJI) Program on sustainable development in rural South Sulawesi, Indonesia. The program aims to foster community-based social innovation through cross-cultural collaboration between Japanese and Indonesian students, who engage directly with local communities to address environmental, social, and economic challenges. The study uses a qualitative approach, including participant observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis, to assess the program's impact in four locations: Barrang Lompo Island, Lakkang Island, Toraja, and Polewali Mandar. Key findings indicate that the program significantly improved agricultural productivity, environmental sustainability, and community well-being through the introduction of organic farming techniques, sustainable fisheries practices, and improved education. Students participating in the program developed cross-cultural communication skills and practical experience in applying theoretical knowledge in real-world contexts. However, challenges related to cultural differences, language barriers, and limited infrastructure hindered the program's full potential. The study concludes that while the SUIJI Program had a positive impact on rural development, its long-term sustainability depends on stakeholder support and improved infrastructure. This study contributes to broader discussions on social innovation and sustainable development, emphasizing the importance of integrating global and local perspectives. Further research is needed to explore the long-term adaptability of communities to introduced innovations and the role of infrastructure in supporting sustainable development in rural areas.

Abstract

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a mandatory obligation for companies in Indonesia to balance economic, social, and environmental interests, particularly for communities living around production areas that often experience negative impacts from industrial activities such as air pollution, economic inequality, and health problems. This study aims to explain the extent of community involvement in CSR implementation in Biring Ere Village, Pangkep Regency. The research employed a qualitative method using interviews and observations conducted in 2025. The forms and levels of community aspirations were analyzed based on Arnstein's ladder of participation. The findings reveal that, in the early stages, community participation in CSR program planning was limited to village officials. However, there is now a growing trend of broader participation involving people from diverse backgrounds. These results indicate a shift toward a more participatory CSR model, which contributes to greater program effectiveness and sustainability for local communities.

Abstract

This paper aims to show the important role of civic education in influencing the early political preferences of novice voters. Political preference is one of the important aspects for someone to be able to participate properly in a democratic system. Based on certain political preferences, a person will have reasons and foundations for his behavior and political choices, including novice voters. Therefore, an understanding of the aspects of its formation becomes an important aspect to be understood before being directly involved in political elections. Based on qualitative research conducted in Makassar City in 2020 on novice voters who are high school students, it was found that the formation of their initial political preferences was not only influenced by parental preferences but also through civic education courses at schools. The course which consists of standards and social values in behaving as citizens has given them an initial understanding of the importance of placing themselves well in the political space. This makes civic education space for socialization as well as political education for novice voters. This understanding then becomes the basis for developing their understanding of politics and how they should behave as good citizens in a democratic system.

Abstract

Policy implementation is the most crucial stage of the policy process because, at this stage, benefits will be obtained from previously defined concepts. Regarding the policy for the construction of the Salutambung-Aralle axis, the steps taken were to compare the implementation of the policies of the Governor of West Sulawesi in each period so that the efforts and obstacles of each Governor were found in that period. The research method used is a qualitative approach with a descriptive analysis type. The study results show that during the reign of Anwar Adnan Saleh, efforts to increase the construction of the road got an excellent basis after changing its status from a district road to a provincial strategic highway. Meanwhile, during the administration of the Governor of ABM, policy planning was quite good. Still, it did not have a strong commitment at the implementation stage, as evidenced by various obstacles, including passing incompetent contractors and a lack of communication involving the community.

The results of the research show that the basic difference regarding the verification process for election participants in 2019 and 2024 is that there is no factual verification for Parliamentary parties participating in the 2024 election. The most basic problem of any verification carried out is the membership of political parties that still have members' names. The impact of such profiteering is the rights of the community that can cause harm, especially for job seekers because of the provisions of not being involved as administrators and/or members of political parties. It is necessary to carry out factual verification of management, office domicile and verification of membership without distinguishing between small and large parties in a proportional and fair manner. With integrity in the verification of political parties, it will produce public officials from credible and qualified political parties.

Abstract

The role of shamans in the 2019 local elections is the focus of this study. In addition, the issue of the shaman's position in village elections is discussed in this paper. This study uses a qualitative method. This study relies on primary and secondary data for its findings. The Library Research method was used for data collection purposes in this study. The writer collects information from scientific writings, such as thesis diaries and documents. The author processes the information he collects according to the requirements of the analysis. The research findings show that residents still believe a certain kind of shaman exists. This kind of shaman is used to illustrate when village head elections are held. In regional head elections, especially village head elections, village head candidates develop a belief system to shape social and political attitudes. Whereas shamans rely on mystical reasoning as the foundation of their abilities and take advantage of the mystical devices they have, shamans are used as a guide to progress, what percentage of victory is desired and as a political network for electing village heads and instilling influence over residents so that they get the mass support that shamans have for their political goals.
