Abstract

ABSTRACT: This research was conducted at Klamana, KM 14, East Sorong District, Sorong City, Southwest Papua Province, with the objective of analyzing the correlation between water, dry matter, and sugar level and measuring the sensory properties of root storage on several local Papuan sweet potato genotypes. The research used an experimental method with a Randomized Complete Block Design on 5 sweet potato genotypes (Local Sorong, Mokwam, Koya-4, Koya-5, Soribo), which were repeated 4 times, so that there were 20 experimental units. The results showed that Local Sorong and Mokwam genotypes produced the highest sugar content (14.2 and 15.2 Brix), whereas Soribo genotype produced the highest dry matter content (40.58%), followed by Koya-4 and Koya-6. The correlation coefficient results show that there is a very strong positive relationship between water content and tuber sugar content with a value of r = 0.94, whereas a strong negative correlation coefficient is shown by dry matter content and tuber sugar content with a value of r = 0.94. Based on the testing on sensory characteristics, most of the panelists liked the color of the steamed tubers of Local Sorong, Mokwam, and Koya-4 genotypes. The taste sensory were preferred more in the Local Sorong and Mokwam genotypes by the teenage or younger age category panelists, while Koya-4 was more in the category of mature age panelists. The texture and fibrous feel of the local Sorong and Mokwam steamed tubers were preferred by most of the panelists, because the tuber flesh of both genotypes are soft, easy to digest and smooth.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Ebier-Suth Cokran has a land area of 6,200 hectares, with 200 hectares currently being managed to produce dried cocoa beans, which are processed into cocoa powder and chocolate bars. As a company that cares about society, PT. Ebier-Suth Cokran applies an organic farming system in its operations, in line with the company's motto "The social and green company PT. Ebier-Suth Cokran, agroforestry cocoa plantations (by the community for the community)." One of the company's achievements is the Cacao of Excellence Gold Award, an international recognition of the quality of the products produced. However, the results of the FGD indicate several challenges that need to be addressed to maintain the company's productivity in the future. Some of the issues that need to be tackled include: expanding planting areas to meet market demand, planting superior clones with high production potential, rejuvenating cocoa plants and protective trees, using organic fertilizers, and controlling pests and diseases organically without relying on inorganic fertilizers and pesticides. In addition, training programs for youth and women in cocoa bean processing need to be strengthened to support the sustainability of the company.  Keywords: Chocolate; Cocoa; Disease; Fermentation; Organic ABSTRAK PT. Abstract

ABSTRACT: This research aims to study the cultivation of coffee plants, specifically Robusta coffee (Coffea canephora), grown by farmers in Kampung Air Mandidi and Kampung Samabusa. Coffee cultivation began in 1998, using local seedlings obtained from previous farmers. As a refreshing beverage, coffee is important in daily life and local culture. Although coffee cultivation is not the main occupation for farmers, it shows potential for further development. This study also observed that farmers implement mixed planting systems or agroforestry, where coffee plants are grown alongside other crops such as bananas, durians, and corn. This agroforestry approach not only diversifies agricultural yields but also reduces the risk of pest attacks and enhances the sustainability of the agricultural ecosystem. The research findings indicate that despite challenges in the socialization and marketing of coffee products in the area, the cultivation system applied by the farmers contributes to their overall success and well-being. This research emphasizes the importance of promoting sustainable cultivation practices and supporting farmers facing market challenges to increase local coffee production. Additionally, it highlights the significance of coffee not only as an agricultural product as well as a source of refreshment in the community.

Abstract

Phosphate rock fertilizer has slow solubility; therefore, it is suitable and more effective to be applied on annual crop plantation. To increase the solubility and the effectiveness of phosphate rock application, inoculation of the Arbuscular Mycorrhyzal Fungi (AMF) is required. Experiments were conducted at the Cikabayan Farm, Bogor Agriculture Institute, West Java. The objective was to study the effectiveness of AMF inoculation in increasing the potency of Papuan Crandallite Phosphate Rock to the growth of cocoa seedlings.  A factorial experiment was set up in a complete randomized design. The first factor was AMF inoculation, consisting of none AMF, Manokwari indigenous AMF and Mycofer AMF, and the second factor was five dosages of the Papuan Crandallite Phosphate Rock (PCPR), consisting of  0,  0.5,  1.0,  1.5 and 2.0 g P2O5 / seedling. The dosage of 2.0 g P2O5 SP-36 per seedling was used as a comparison. Cocoa seeds of F-1 Upper Amazon Hybrid (UAH) were collected from the Coffee and Cacao Research Center, Jember, East Java. The seedlings were grown in polybags of 20 cm x 30 cm size, with ultisol acid soil obtained from Jasinga (West Java) as the growing medium under 60% of shading net for four months. The media contained 17.03 cmol kg-1 of exchangeable Al.  The results showed that increasing the dosages of PCPR at the AMF inoculated seedlings resulted to the linear increase of shoot dry weight and P uptake by 50.14% and 64.88%, respectively; and this was lower than the inoculation of Manokwari indigenous AMF which increased shoot dry-weight by 66.30% and P uptake by 65.45%. Whereas the shoot dry-weight and P uptake of the non-mycorrhizal seedlings increased by 73.56% and 121.94%, respectively. Mycofer inoculants were found to be much more effective in increasing the shoot dry-weight by 127.55% and P uptake by 45.16% than that of the Manokwari indigenous AMF, which increased by 95.97% and 21.29% in shoot dry-weight and P uptake, respectively at the PCPR dosage of 2.0 g P2O5 / seedling as compared to the non-inoculated seedlings.
