Abstract

Waste is the remains of daily human activities and/or from natural processes in solid form, and the source of waste is the initial/first place where the waste is. Based on the chemical properties of waste it is grouped into two types, namely organic waste which consists of organic compounds (carbon, hydrogen, oxygen and nitrogen and are quickly decomposed/weathered) come from living/dead things. The second type is inorganic waste which consists of non-organic materials (difficult to be decomposed by soil microorganisms) so it is durable and does not decompose easily. This article contains a report on the implementation of community service regarding the application of technology in managing household waste sorting on Jalan Bukit Cemara Indah XI RT 06 RW 13 Meteseh Village, Tembalang District, Semarang City. The aim of this service is to provide guidance by means of mentoring and counseling in managing waste sorting in the community. The method used consists of three stages which include (1) the observation and needs analysis preparation stage, (2) the implementation of the service process, (3) the service finalization and evaluation stage. The result of this service is the implementation of assistance in waste sorting management which is supported by the construction of a waste sorting place for the community on Jalan Bukit Cemara Indah XI RT 06 RW 13, Meteseh Village, Tembalang District, Semarang City.

Abstract

Urban farming is an effort to maintain resilience in the capital city of Central Java. The Semarang City Government continues to be committed to improving the quality of regional development with benchmarks from aspects of development achievement, quality aspects, document preparation aspects, and innovation aspects. In 2023, the Semarang City Government will carry out program innovations such as the Food Startup Challenge, Urban farming Corner, Rumah Gizi Pelangi Nusantara, and Sekolah Berkebun which will be included in the assessment of the Regional Development Awards (PPD) for Regency/City at the Central Java Province level. In carrying out this innovation, the Semarang City Government also encourages the involvement of all levels of society, especially women's groups and children through the curriculum in schools. This urban farming can support nutritional improvements for stunted children in the City of Semarang. As is known, the City of Semarang has succeeded in scoring a hat trick as the first best city in the Regional Development Awards or PPD for 3 consecutive years (2019, 2020, 2021) both at the Central Java Province and national levels. One of the activities that can support the urban farming program is the availability of green houses for plant nurseries in the RT, RW, and sub-district sectors. The construction of green houses for nurseries is very important for the community, especially residents of RT 06, Meteseh Village, so that they can produce plant seeds independently and can carry out planting activities or movements carried out by the Semarang city government

Abstract

To achieve the goal of improving teachers’ competencies, a technology that enables the creation of creative teaching materials is required. One technology widely used today is the Canva application. With this application, learning activities are expected to become more engaging and communicative. To support this aim, a community service program was conducted for the teachers of Pos-PAUD “Bintang Kecil,” focusing on the use of Canva to create comics. The activities were carried out through lectures and hands-on practice. Participants included teachers and several parents who were able to attend. The community service was implemented in several stages: (1) introduction of the facilitators and audience participants, (2) explanation of the Canva application and its benefits in teaching, (3) introduction to Canva features, (4) practice in creating various teaching materials, and (5) monitoring the use of Canva as a teaching medium in the early childhood education setting. During the practice sessions, teachers and parents were assisted by university students participating in the program. Their presence greatly supported and motivated the participants. The teachers felt that the application made it easier to create learning materials aligned with the intended learning objectives.
