Abstract

Abstract

This study used the finite difference method to develop a numerical model for pollutant transport phenomenon simulation. Mathematically, the phenomenon is often described by the advection–diffusion differential equation, which is obtained from a combination of the continuity equation and Fick’s first law. The Forward Time Central Space (FTCS) scheme is one of the explicit finite difference methods and is used in this study to solve the model due to its simplicity in solving a differential equation. Yet, this method is currently unstable, which results in oscillations in the model. Thus, a numerical filter (Hansen) is added to the FTCS method to improve the stability of the model. The developed numerical model is applied to several 1D and 2D pollutant transport test cases. Simulation results are compared with those of existing analytical solutions to verify the developed model, and they show that the developed model can simulate the pollutant transport phenomenon well. Moreover, the numerical filter can increase the model stability.

Abstract

In this study, flood hydrograph analysis was conducted in the Landak river sub-watershed. The analysis used the synthetic unit hydrograph method, namely HSS ITB-1 and 2 (exact and numerical). The advantage of this method is that this method is developed based on the physical properties and characteristics of river basins in Indonesia. The purpose of this study was to see the suitability of the ITB synthetic unit hydrograph model in the Landak River sub-watershed. The suitability was measured by comparing it with the existing measured discharge data. The results of the HSS ITB modeling provide good agreement with the measured discharge. The HSS ITB-2 Exact model is suitable for use in the Ambawang and Ngabang sub-watersheds. This can be seen from the differences between the HSS ITB-2 Exact flood discharges, which have the smallest difference with the measured flood discharge compared to other HSS ITB models, namely 23.75% for the Ambawang sub-watershed, 55.78% for the Ngabang sub-watershed and 143.14% for the Landak sub-watershed. For the Serimbu sub-watershed, the HSS ITB-1 Numerical model is the model with the lowest error rate compared to other HSS ITB models, which is 25.24%. The results of this study are expected to be a reference in conducting flood discharge analysis for use in planning water structures at the research location.

Abstract

SMKN 4 SPP Singkawang is one of the vocational schools that provides education with a focus on agriculture and agribusiness. The purpose of providing education at this school is to produce graduates who are skilled in agriculture. One of the important skills to have in agriculture is topographic surveying. For this reason, students at school are expected to have these skills. These skills can later be used to support various activities in agriculture, such as irrigation planning and determining plant types based on topographic conditions. Topographic surveys can be carried out effectively and efficiently using optical tools such as auto levels. Based on this, Community Service (PKM) activities in the form of auto level training were carried out by students at SMKN 4 SPP Singkawang. The purpose of this training is for students to be able to use auto levels in mapping land contours for agricultural and agribusiness purposes. The training began by providing an explanation of the optical tools that would be used for the survey. The next stage is for students to practice using the optical tools accompanied by the Community Service (PKM) team. The result of this training is that students are able to understand and practice measuring land contours using auto levels. Finally, this training is expected to improve the skills of students of SMKN 4 SPP Singkawang, which will later be able to support various activities in the fields of agriculture and agribusiness, such as irrigation planning, determining plant types, and so on.

Abstract

In daily life, plastic waste feels very close to us as humans. This type of waste is very difficult to decompose, which significantly disrupts both life on land and in the ocean. In this study, the use of heated plastic waste as an additive incement mixtures for making paving blocks is still rarely explored. The aim of this research is to examine the impact of usingplastic waste as an additive in cement mixtures. Additionally, the use of plastic waste as an additive in cement is based on theidea that plastic waste can be transformed into something useful to reduce the troubling amount of plastic waste. For this purpose, this study employs both the Literature Review Method and the Experimental Method to determine how the addition of plasticwaste in paving block mixtures affects the compressive strength of the paving blocks. In this study, plastic waste will be used asan additive to cement with the following compositions: 0% (ordinary concrete), 2.5%, 5%, and 7% of the cement weight. Theresults showed that paving blocks with a 2.5% plastic mixture achieved the highest compressive strength of 26.2 MPa at 21 days, while the highest water absorption was observed in the 5% plastic mixture, with a value of approximately 6.14%. Overall, thetotal strength exceeded the planned compressive strength of 20 MPa based on the SNI 03-0691-1996 standard, making it suitablefor road use with a B quality grade.

Abstract

A numerical model capable of simulating the dam-break flow is required to reduce the detrimental impact on the downstream area of the dam. This study aims to see how the characteristics and patterns of flow due to partial dam failure and the presence of an obstacle in the floodplain. In real life, the obstacle can be considered as a building. In this research, a model based on the FTCS method was developed with the addition of a Hansen numerical filter. This model is known as the FTCS-Hansen model. The Hansen filter in this study is used to enhance the numerical of the model and reduce oscillations due to shock waves. The FTCS-Hansen model simulates a 2D partial dam break with an obstacle. The simulation results are compared with other simulation results from previous studies. This comparison intends to see the performance of the FTCS-Hansen model. The results show good agreement between the FTCS-Hansen model and other numerical models. In addition, the complicated dam-break flow characteristics due to the presence of an obstacle (reflection and diffraction) can also be well captured by the FTCS-Hansen model.
