Abstract

The prevalence of anxiety in pregnant women increases along with high-risk pregnancy conditions. Severe anxiety hurts the mother, fetus, and spouse, including difficulty in achieving prenatal attachment. This study aims to implement evidence-based nursing to reduce anxiety and enhance prenatal attachment in women with high-risk pregnancies after infertility. To achieve these aims, a pilot study was conducted using the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) Evidence-based Audit and Feedback as well as Getting Research into Practice (GRiP) approach, consisting of 7 phases, namely identifying areas, involving agents of change, assessing context and readiness, reviewing practices with audit criteria based on scientific evidence, implementing with the GRiP, reassessing with follow-up audits, and considering project sustainability. The study involved 5 women with high-risk pregnancies after infertility. The clients received attachment behaviour counselling, followed by evaluations related to anxiety and prenatal attachment after 7 days of interventions. The result of the study was that all five (100%) women with high-risk pregnancies after infertility experienced a decrease in anxiety and achieved high scores in prenatal attachment. Attachment behaviour counselling effectively decreases prenatal anxiety and enhances prenatal attachment.

Abstract

Background: The first 1,000 days are crucial for a child's development. Indonesia has limited research on responsive caregiving and early learning opportunities, especially for children with nutritional challenges. While studies have addressed general child nutrition, few have explored comprehensive nurturing care interventions. This gap underscores the need for further research. Educational videos, particularly animated ones, effectively capture attention and improve understanding, making them valuable for enhancing maternal knowledge and child growth.Purpose: This study aimed to assess the impact of nurturing care educational videos on mothers' knowledge and child growth in children aged 6-23 months with nutritional challenges. Methods: A quasi-experimental design with non-equivalent and untreated control groups was employed. Seventy-three mothers and their children aged 6-23 months, facing nutritional challenges, were recruited through consecutive sampling. The intervention group received nurturing care educational videos. Statistical analyses included dependent t-tests, independent t-tests, and repeated measures ANOVA.Results: The intervention group showed significant improvements in nurturing care knowledge (p = 0.012), responsive caregiving (p = 0.018), and safety and security (p = 0.006). A significant difference in safety and security was observed between groups at posttest 1 (p = 0.020). Both groups exhibited significant increases in children's body weight and height: the intervention group (body weight, p = 0.005; body height, p < 0.001) and the control group (body weight, p < 0.001; body height, p < 0.001).Conclusion: Nurturing care educational videos had a significant positive impact on enhancing mothers' knowledge and promoting child growth. Notable improvements were observed in nurturing care knowledge, responsive caregiving practices, and safety and security measures among caregivers exposed to the intervention.

Abstract

Kata Kunci: dismenorea primer, nyeri, remaja, scoping review, terapi musik Effects of Music Therapy on Primary Dysmenorrhea Pain in Adolescents: A Scoping Review ABSTRACTMenstrual pain or dysmenorrhea is a common condition experienced by women of reproductive age, including adolescents. Dysmenorrhea can interfere with daily activities, necessitating various non-pharmacological pain management strategies, such as music therapy. Objective: This study aims to explore the effects of music therapy on primary dysmenorrhea pain in adolescents. Methods: A literature search was conducted using databases such as ScienceDirect, ProQuest, Scopus, Cochrane, EBSCOhost, and the Google Scholar search engine. The inclusion criteria were English- and Indonesian-language articles published between 2019 and 2024, open-access articles, studies involving adolescent participants aged 13–20 years, and studies discussing the effects of music therapy on primary dysmenorrhea. The selected articles included randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and quasi-experimental studies. Articles were screened using Mendeley Desktop, critically appraised using The Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) framework, analyzed, and categorized based on the type of music therapy employed.  Results: Among the nine studies reviewed, Mozart therapy was the most frequently discussed intervention. However, other types of music therapy also demonstrated significant potential in reducing the intensity of primary dysmenorrhea pain in adolescents. Discussion: Music therapy consistently led to a reduction in menstrual pain. There is a variety of music therapy options available. Soft-toned music can stimulate alpha waves, inducing a sense of calmness and relaxation in listeners. Conclusion: Music therapy, whether used independently or in combination with other interventions, is effective in alleviating primary dysmenorrhea in adolescents. This effect is attributed to the stimulation of endorphin release, which helps reduce pain. These findings highlight the importance of considering music therapy as an effective non-pharmacological option for menstrual pain management in adolescents. Keywords: Primary dysmenorrhea, pain, adolescents, scoping review, music therapy

Abstract

Background: The period from 12 to 36 months represents a critical window for child development, yet the relationship between nurturing care practices and developmental outcomes during acute illness remains poorly understood. This study aimed to determine the relationship between maternal nurturing care practices and the developmental status of acutely ill children aged 12-36 months in Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive-analytic study was conducted among 70 mother-child pairs recruited through consecutive sampling. Maternal nurturing care practices were assessed using a modified questionnaire adapted from UNICEF Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices tools. Child development was evaluated using the Indonesian Pre-Screening Development Questionnaire (KPSP). Maternal depression was measured using the Beck Depression Inventory-II. Data were analyzed using Fisher's exact test, with statistical significance set at p<0.05. Results: The majority of mothers (57.1%) demonstrated poor nurturing care practices, while 84.3% of acutely ill children showed age-appropriate development. Most mothers (80.0%) were aged 20-35 years, had secondary education (50.0%), and were not experiencing depression (68.6%). Fever was the most common acute illness (44.3%), with a median duration of 3 days. No statistically significant association was found between maternal nurturing care practices and child development status (p=0.331, OR=2.250, 95% CI: 0.543-9.330). Additionally, established developmental predictors including maternal education (p=0.745), family economic status (p=1.000), and maternal depression (p=0.873) showed no significant associations with developmental outcomes. Conclusion: These findings highlight the need for context-specific nurturing care assessment tools and longitudinal research designs to better understand the complex dynamics between caregiving practices, acute illness, and developmental outcomes in young children.

Abstract

Background: Adolescents in rural areas often face greater challenges with reproductive health problems than adolescents in urban areas, including more difficult access to health services, less access to reproductive health information, and limited social support. This affects the high prevalence of reproductive health problems such as teenage pregnancy, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and limited understanding of sexual and reproductive health rights The objective of this study was to explore the educational needs The purpose of this study is to investigate more comprehensively the needs of adolescents about reproductive health education in rural areas of Kulon Progo, Yogyakarta. Method: This is a qualitative study with a phenomenological approach, and data collection methods with in-depth interviews. The research participants consisted of 10 adolescents who lived in a rural area and were analysed using thematic analysis. Result: Four major themes were found from the results of this research, among others: adolescents' experience of getting education about reproductive health, challenges faced by adolescents around reproductive health education, the most appropriate person to provide reproductive health education to adolescents, and the need for adolescent education on reproductive health. Conclusion:  The challenges faced by adolescents living in rural areas regarding reproductive health education:Adolescents feel uncomfortable discussing reproductive health with their parents, but feel comfortable discussing it with their peers, even though they cannot help them. The internet is still the main source for asking questions about reproductive health, but often they do not get the right answers.
